'Til there's nothing left

Fawnkit's ears twitched as she scanned the camp, looking for the perfect tree - one that wasn't too tall for a kitten like her or Antlerkit, but one that would still be a challenge to climb. Antlerkit and her had thought of the perfect game - a competition to help them practice climbing trees. Whoever managed to climb to the highest branch each round would get a point and the first cat to score three points would win!

Fawnkit was very proud of the idea her and Antlerkit had thought of, hoping other cats might want to join also! There wasn't much to do in camp for kittens like her, but practicing their skills before they become apprentices while having fun seemed like the perfect way to spend her day. She locked her eyes on a tree that seemed ideal, with lots of branches that started out relatively low, but not too low to be reachable from the ground - a sycamore that her clanmates often lounged or ate prey on.

Approaching the tree, she waited for Antlerkit and the others to join her. "Ready?" she asked when everyone had gathered. The first round had begun! Fawnkit jumped and clung to the trunk of the tree, her claws digging into the bark as she pushed herself upward. This was a lot harder than she had expected! By the time she reached the lowest branch, she was already out of breath, her front paws sore. She decided she was gonna take the loss on the first round, rather than push herself beyond her limits. Maybe if she took it easy at first, the next rounds she would do better!

She looked around her at the others playing and was amazed at the skills of some while relieved that she wasn't the only one who didn't do too well. How fun!

He raised his head towards a tree, his denmate claimed for their climbing competition. A challenge. He loved a good challenge. His ears angled forward as he stood next to Fawnkit, little chest pushed out as lets a toothy grin stretch across his maw. He could— no He will totally win! Letting an exhale leave his nose, as he looked at the other beside him.

Sure, there's barely anything to do in camp while they're still kittens, but once he gets apprentice - aged he will be as free as fledgling leaving the nest. ...Welllllll, as free as he could get with a randomized mentor hovering over him. Anyways, Antlerkit looked at the branches that hung low of the tree, Fawnkit picked out for them to practice on. The tabby tom bounces on the tips of his toes as he lets out a snort at Fawnkit's question.
"Duh!"

Wha–
"Woah...! Hey! Hey! Time out! HEY!"
Letting out a surprised shout. As he lets his body drop low to the earth beneath him, before he goes off running towards the tree right behind Fawnkit with a war cry leaving him. I will not be bested and be in second place! He leaps towards the bark, needle - sharp claws catching onto it. He silently celebrates his climbing achievement, before with a twitch of his tail he ascends. Claws dig into the bark as he starts his climb– up, up, past where Fawnkit has settled to reach up towards another branch. A frown on his face. He is out of breath once he reaches the top of a second branch, digging his claws into the bark with a proud smile on his face.
"I win! HAHAHA!"
Antlerkit– ever the dramatic lets out a series of cackles leave his maw.

Fawnkit looked up at the dark kitten who managed to climb one branch higher than she did. "Good job!" she laughed, looking at Antlerkit. This was fun! Even though she only managed to climb up one branch, that was still good and she might do even better next time!

She turned around, ready to start another round once she's back on solid ground, when she noticed the air beneath her. She hadn't realised the branch was this high up... how was she meant to get down? She couldn't just jump down, that was way too high for a small kitten like her! "Ummm...Antlerkit?" she dug her claws firmly into the wood. "How exactly does one get down?"

The longer she stared beneath her, the further the ground seemed to be and her paws refused to move. How did warriors do this tree climbing business? Fawnkit supposed that they are bigger, so perhaps the ground is closer. Plus, warriors are more agile and nimble, able to land on all their paws, something she hasn't completely mastered yet. What was she supposed to do?

Gingerflame may have had a hard time with apprentices, especially when they sassed him, but kits... He had a soft spot for them. Even if they had a habit of getting on his nerves, he had a hard time walking away. The last time Boarpaw had snuck off with another kit, which resulted in him scolding the pair. Of course, being children they thought he was being a spoil sport. Especially when he reminded them of the adders that hid within the crevices of the Sunningrocks. The little kit had practically scoffed and said well there weren't any, so what's the big fuss?! Now he could have left them. Let fate decide whether or not it would be kind to the children, but his paws refused to move. And so, there Gingerflame sat on guard. Watching for any signs of something going amiss. Nothing had.

Now he watched as Fawnkit and Antlerkit played together. Watching them be so carefree made the stress and frustration of dealing with an annoying warrior wash away. Red eyes carefully watched as the pair started climbing a tree in camp. It wasn't anything he should be too worried about, considering he highly doubted they'd actually try to climb all the way to the top. If they started going too far then he would rush up and bring them down. Speaking of bringing them down... Pft. They didn't think about this part at all, huh? With a shake of his head and chuff, he approached the tree the kits were now stuck on. He tilted his head up, seeing relief in their eyes. "Looks like you're both stuck. Do you want me to bring you down? Or do you want to try and come down yourselves?" It's a good time as any. I'll catch you if anything goes wrong.

It was almost comical how often he found kits in the most… tangled situations. Copperstorm couldn't help the light grin that tugged at his muzzle as he stood next to Gingerflame, glancing up into the tree where two kits had now found themselves rather… stuck. They had managed to climb, sure, but getting down hadn't yet occurred to their young minds, and now they were perched far above the ground.

" Huzzah! You win a prize for being the first to climb into a tree! " he called up to them, tail flicking in amusement. He looked to Gingerflame with a wink. " Did you ever do this as a kit? Get yourself stuck in a tree? " he asked lightly, trying to spark a small conversation as they waited to see if the kits could manage their own escape. Of course, he was ready to help them down if they couldn't. Copperstorm had learned long ago that young kits required a lot of eyes and patience. And so, while the playful humor tugged at him, his golden hues remained alert, flitting back up to ensure the kits were steady and balanced.

Fawnkit's wide eyes betrayed the tiniest flicker of fear he noticed when he saw her staring at the ground below, and Copperstorm's tail twitched in gentle reassurance. He wouldn't fault her for hesitation, after all, even the bravest kit needed a moment to gather their courage. To figure out what to do from here. She could either ask for help or try to get down herself... Either way he would act accordingly to ensure neither of the kits would come to the ground hurt.

bio

There was little that Thornkit enjoyed more than a good competition - being able to show off and one-up anyone else involved did wonders for his growing ego. He'd never much had the chance to do as much when it'd just been him, his mother, and his two littermates, but he'd realized that, since coming to ThunderClan, he had an audience now. Finding allies amongst his own age group had proven challenging, but better to be at the top of the pecking order than be dragged down by incompetence.

Of the kits in the Clan, Thornkit had quickly found that he tolerated very few of them. His siblings, of course, were immune to any of his criticisms, but Fawnkit and her sisters had proven to be a harrowing blight on Thornkit's life; Antlerkit, if Thornkit was pushed to admit it, was too similar to him in some ways for them to get along, but Thornkit hadn't counted him out altogether; and Hollykit stood out to him, if only because the kit's relationship with their leader was something that fascinated Thornkit - of them all, Hollykit could make a useful ally. Perhaps even a friend. But that remained to be seen, and at first, when Thornkit had spotted Fawnkit and Antlerkit trying their hand at scaling a tree, he'd been tempted to insert himself into their challenge so that he could prove how much better he was than them.

By the time that Thornkit had crossed camp to where they were, the two kits appeared to have gotten themselves stuck in the boughs of the tree, with two warriors loitering on the ground below. Thornkit snickered at the sight and stepped past the warriors, leaning up against the tree.

"Come on, then! Show us the finesse of ThunderClan!" Thornkit goaded, a mean-spirited grin spread across his face. He zeroed in on Antlerkit and added, "Her I get, but I expected more of you, Antlerkit."
