"and this time, she won't be forgiving"
it was a simple enough arrangement to be made with Pikestar, to implore him for an evening of mutual trust and celebration. with the way the sun's rays grow colder and colder with each passing day, the warmth even upon Sunningrocks fades from their routines as a lounging area. still... it can be enjoyed one last time, can't it? she is more than aware of the way Owlbark detests her open, foolish affections for RiverClan as their neighbors but he can do little to stop her from hosting this little event between clans.

they were allies, weren't they? it hardly needed to be formalized out loud, given how easily they spoke to one another, how little they dared to test each other's boundaries. it was a mutual respect, a mutual understanding. perhaps it is because they offer it so freely when her other neighbors do not that she is so quick to turn up her belly in a show of trust. bright eyes turn towards her clan, watching for the wary sense of hopeful excitement on some faces and the scowls of uncertainty on others.

they worry too much, Juniperstar tells herself. there is nothing to fear here.

so instead she offers her gaze to RiverClan's side of the border, divided as they are by the strong current of the river. already she can spot the silhouettes of those she would consider friendlies and in a bid to reassure them, the molly waves her tail like a white flag. "You're welcome to cross! We should celebrate our clan's growth over the last few seasons... before leaf-fall tires out our good spirits."

Initially, the invitation as it was had been met with scrutiny by Lavenderpaw. As much as she insists that she has no issue with any Clan, she simply can't help but be wary - everything is not only new to her, but to them all in truth. If Clans aren't supposed to cross borders, and doing so is supposedly punishable by death... then why is the Clan that made that unspoken law inviting RiverClan onto their claimed lands? She guesses that SkyClan, too, made that altercation a reality in some way, and RiverClan was wholly uninvolved. Regardless, Lavenderpaw can't help distrust the other Clan to some degree.

Some degree, oddly enough, is completely obscured by broad shoulders and a sniffy nose. Lavenderpaw takes extra care to clean up her fur earlier that day, and even tasks her sisters with fastening her new butterfly wings to her ears before the event. Vanity is not normally a trait of the curly-furred girl, but as much as today is a show of trust and companionship... it's the apprentice's show of, dare I say it, excitement and affection. She follows the patrol to the border, careful to avoid any kicked up mud or sand, and when they arrive at Sunningrocks, she does not immediately leap in at Juniperstar's request. She waits, patiently, with a face deadpan and near boredom. If he doesn't show up soon...

And then - right as she considers leaving - a heavyset, thick brown coat appears on the shore line. She can see from her side that he's shown off her gift, too. Her mottled gaze brightens as she pulls from whatever ranks still muddy RiverClan's side of the rapids, easily trotting across the surfaced stones and landing on sand that she stood on not that long ago. She takes a few long strides to meet with the tom, but stops just short of him. Admittedly, she's unsure what this is between them, so she doesn't immediately embrace him (as much as she wants to.) Instead, she greets him with a nervous, nearly uncharacteristic giggle, "I'm glad you shown up. I was just about to leave...!"

His mother mentions a celebration or party of sorts to which he only gives a disinterested nod until there's a mention of Riverclan does he seem to visibly perk up and the half-clan prince can't help blinking a pair of earthy toned eyes knowing that he might expect to see a certain someone at that party. Asterpaw normally didn't care about the way that he looked for the most part with unruly curls here and there on his body but he takes a good chunk of his day carefully preparing himself for this outting, he smooths out the fur on his body, and with a paw does his best to comb down unruly curls that rest atop his head. His dark gaze focuses onto the seaglass that Lavenderpaw had gave him that night, he doesn't trust the rest of his denmates to not steal it, and he finds some foliage that's strong enough to weave together into a sort of necklace.

The chocolate tabby places the new accessory around his throat and allows the seaglass to lightly brush against the area where his heart rests, he holds his breath unable to shake this feeling of anxiety from his shoulders, and he hopes that he looks nice enough. He trails behind his mother and his mentor without much of a word, he doesn't want to get his hopes up to high, and he prays to Starclan that she would be there so he wouldn't make a fool of himself. His paws itch with anticipation as his mother speaks saying that both clans could cross over and Asterpaw immediately begins to search for silver curls, bicolored eyes, and perhaps, a pair of butterfly wings.

Their eyes lock with one another and his paws begin to push forward so that he'd meet her halfway, when she stops then he does the same, and he offers a smile in her direction. The warm, fuzzy feeling returning to his face and chest as he finds himself mezmorized by her though he doesn't dare to draw any closer uncertain as her on what to call this. A sniffle slips out from him as he can't help the warm chuckle that slips out from his own jaws as she says that she was about to leave and something about that made his heart ache momentarily "I'd hope not... I spent most of the day fixing my fur so I, uh, looked... nice for the occasion." For you. Those are the last words that he wishes to say but he shuts his mouth especially since they aren't alone even if it did feel like it was just him and Lavenderpaw whenever they were together, nobody else mattered, nobody else existed.

He spares a glance to those around him, to his mother so that she isn't watching his every move, and turns his attention to Lavenderpaw once more unable to stop the swelling of his heart at the sight of the butterfly wings "I really hope you like them..." Asterpaw says only to pause for a heartbeat before continuing, "If you wished, I could get you a different pair in another color..." He tries not to overthink the item that he had gotten her and instead, he lifts a place to delicately touch the seaglass that rests on his neck "Thank you again... for this. It's perfect. I love it... a lot." The older apprentice didn't love a lot of things but this, he absolutely adored, and he would cherish it.

"speech", thoughts, attacking
a runty, longhaired chocolate tabby with clay toned eyes and low white. a sickly apprentice with small patches of fevercoat left over in his pelt, kitten fuzz, and fat that clings to him but is fading away to give way to a taller/more lanky build
sickly child of juniperstar and sablestar; littermate of dreampaw and magpiepaw

asterpaw's an introverted apprentice that keeps to himself for the most part unless family's involved, he usually keeps his head low and eyes averted so he doesn't make direct eye contact. once, he actually gets to know someone is he more open towards them and can prove to be a devoted friend. once he's comfortable around other individuals, he tends to speak a lot more and sometimes over shares about himself without realizing it. he hates that he was born sickly but despite it, he tries to overcome it and pushes himself harder than any of the apprentices

Frostmoth finds himself mildly thanking StarClan that Juniperstar had reached out to forge some sort of neutral ground between her clan and RiverClan before they can seek some bastardized sort of 'guidance' from their warmongering neighbors to the north. And to some degree too, there is a smugness rising inside of him. A reflection of what childish youth he has retained even in his quick-paced adjustment to authority. Juniperstar shows genuine interest in furthering a positive relationship between their clans beyond a mutual respect. He had been right. ThunderClan had not just been polite to them because they respected the border. Perhaps this would be reason enough to seek a collaboratively-formed code between the clans over allowing SkyClan to influence their laws.

The bicolor deputy wades easily across the rushing river, similar to his other clanmates. He is proud of their ability to cross with almost no effort, but he does not let it show on his face or in his posture. Really, he is too busy finding the cold gaze of @OWLBARK and leering at him in kind. Frostmoth is not sure when he and the ThunderClan deputy had come to despise one another, but the two were now like rams with their horns interlocked. He finds himself hoping bitterly that he never has to lead a clan at the same time as the hound-mannered brute. His kindredness with Owlbark begins and ends at his belief that he'd done no wrong protecting his territory.

Frostmoth does not allow his eyes to linger on the brown tabby for long, turning instead to the kinder form of Juniperstar. "I barely remember last leaf-fall, but I remember the trees looked nice," he attempts to make small-talk with the ThunderClan leader "Though I cannot imagine it's favorable to your prey. The fish grow fickle with the wavering temperatures, too." Frostmoth finds himself feeling sheepish, his age showing more prominently than his rank.

Webpaw was definitely not one to pass up this sort of opportunity - what a great idea, to share Sunningrocks for the day! RiverClan would totally owe ThunderClan after this!

Plus... it was kind of nice to relax. She padded along the riverbank, trying to ignore the awkward flirting of some of the other apprentices, and lay doen by the water, dangling a paw in the cool, crisp stream. She could never fathom being a RiverClan cat, but she had to admit the water felt awfully nice on her paws in the greenleaf heat. Was this something they could benefit from all the time?

Then again, the fishy smell of RiverClan cats wafted by, and she wrinkled her nose. She couldn't imagine smelling like them all the time.

————————————— The melody sings what the words can't say. ✦

Learning about the idea of a sunningrocks party from Juniperstar brought a wave of near kitten-like joy to Boarpaw. For all the looming threats from Skyclan and the imminent approach of leafbare imminent, a peaceful get together with their neighbours seemed perfectly timed.

The apprentice perched upon a section of the rocks, where he had taken some of his peers a few days before to enjoy the warmth. They were looking for someone, using the height as leverage to try to spot the white pelted cat he had grown to call a friend. His friend wasn't exactly the most personable cat, so part of him worried she wouldn't come at all, but that wouldn't stop him from being on the lookout.

Juniperstar encouraged everyone to be friendly and mingle, and while Boarpaw was sure he could befriend any cat from the clan, it was nice to catch up with friends. So the oversized apprentice perched there, squinting about the small crowd of cats and over the stepping stones, hoping to see the glimmer of white fur-

Just like that, his eyes lit up as a toothy smile crinkled his eyes, hopping from the stones and padded happily towards the other. "Sthimmerpaw, there you are!" Boarpaw purred, warmly. He didn't offer her his usual affectionate headbump, knowing she wasn't a fan of the sort of affection, but his tail swaying in the air made it evident enough.

(𓆩✧𓆪) juniperstar has assured him he is welcome at this party of sorts. although dreampaw trains in shadowclan under halfshade's watchful eyes, he is still a thunderclanner, he thinks, and so when home, he'll play that part dutifully. he'd wanted to pad over with asterpaw, chatting and laughing all the way, but truthfully his brother is being weird. dreampaw's not sure the last time his twin had truly smoothed and combed his tail, or worn any sort of accessory. something had changed in the moon since he'd seen him last, and the magenta eyed feline is determined to find out what.

so, as asterpaw mutters to himself, his odd seaglass and leaf... thing bouncing from his chest, dreampaw makes do by chattering at her brother. "this should be fun, ay?" she ponders, before rolling her eyes at her brother's obvious distraction. "whatever," she would nudge him playfully, but there's a gleam in his eye that says he's been preparing for something important. as bossy as dreampaw is, she won't ruin that for him. probably.

as juniperstar beckons riverclan across to the rocks, the apprentice steps to his mother's side, nuzzling her shoulder as he watches the water dwellers arrive. their deputy approaches juni, speaking about the seasons, and while dreampaw would love to do small talk, he'd rather get to know the other apprentices. nodding in fairwell, he glances around, part of him hoping he'll discover whatever asterpaw is hiding so carefully.

magenta eyes skim the crowd, finally locking on the chocolate spotted pelt. he seems to be speaking closely with a silvery riverclan molly. wait a minute... dreampaw squints, recognizing seafoam eyes. no way. padding towards the duo, she almost holds herself back, but her curiosity gets the better of her. "hey aster!" she greets, almost too loud as her brother paws at the seaglass around his neck. her gaze turns to lavenderpaw, recognition sparking. "you're the girl from the gathering," she'll point out, tipping her head. "i guess you found the cat you were looking for."

the chocolate apprentice waggles his eyebrows, mischief in his tone. how... interesting. he supposes cross-clan friendship is being encouraged with this event... but they seem awfully close. how fun.

a longhaired chocolate spotted tabby with low white and orange eyes. silky chocolate fur cascades in waves across his boxy frame, darker dapples giving him his tabby pelt. creamy white splashes his paws, belly, tail tip, and muzzle, freckling across his face. the hue of a crackling fire, struck through with magenta and violet, sparkles from narrow sockets.

Lavenderpaw laughs - not to mock him, no, but deliberately because of how alike they are. The both of them spent the prior few hours cleaning themselves up for this very event. One that, if she had to guess, neither of them had too much of a vested interest in... outside of one another. She can't say it - not with everyone so near. She's almost sure the boy's leader is watching him like a hawk, and she doesn't want to know who's eyes are burning into her own pelt at the moment. "I'm not ashamed to say - me too...!" Lavenderpaw confides in him. "My sisters helped a bit. If... you want, you could meet them today, maybe..." There's that small shout somewhere between her ears, the genuine worry that he may find Juncopaw prettier or Rosemarypaw more interesting. It's odd how she wishes to hoard a near-sickly tom all to herself...

The conversation flows naturally. She replies with, "I want these ones," too easily. "You picked them out, yeah? Then these ones are perfect." Lavenderpaw almost slips out of her coy smile and relaxed posture, her mother's deadpan expression leaking back into her as she speaks. She gets his sentiment - she had almost said the same thing to him back when they traded gifts. But it's unnecessary, and she would rather Asterpaw not think that his gift wasn't good enough. Before the few aspects of Lichentuft could truly reveal themselves, a similarly brown tabby appears beside Asterpaw. Familiar in many ways, the blue smoke finds. Only a few shades lighter than her close... friend... but different still. And -

"You're the girl from the gathering."

Ah.

The embarrassment pools in mottled blue-green eyes, almost entirely erasing the tenseness that wanted to fester in the moment. Her lips are pulled into a thin line as she looks between the duo. She could've said before that they were siblings without a doubt, but seeing them beside one another... Yeesh. Hopefully Asterpaw forgives her for mistaking his sister for him at the gathering.

"I... did...!" Lavenderpaw tries, and her tail curls around her paws in a slight show of discomfort. "I'm sorry about that again. It was awkward, wasn't it?" She may as well make light of the situation, right?

Owlbark was holding his tongue. He was being a good second-in-command and allowing his leader to make decisions. He was not required to agree upon all of the decisions, but he was holding his tongue against this one. They were going behind their word now. He had killed a SkyClanner for entering their land, and Juniperstar was openly welcoming RiverClan. He only hoped Hawkstar did not catch wind of this.

He sulked into Sunningrocks behind his leader and cringed at the apprentices from both clans greeting each other as if they were old friends. A distinct lack of warriors so far. He noticed that until a cool, blue gaze caught him as the bi-color deputy of RiverClan waded toward them. Owlbark had respect and disdain for Frostmoth. They shared a similar outlook on clan politics, but fell short of the drive needed to make real changes in his clan. Owlbark could see the other deputy's desire to push past Pikestar's jovial nature and lead RiverClan with a firmer fist. He could see himself in Frostmoth. He could also see the difference. Where Frostmoth broiled in silent, weak rage, Owlbark let his simmer into a strong partnership between Juniperstar and himself.

The brown tabby moved from behind Juniperstar to meet Frostmoth's stare, before giving a polite nod and moving away from Juniperstar's conversation. Where Frostmoth went, Pikestar followed. He would preserve his decent mood by avoiding the bubbly tom. Owlbark leaped to sit atop an unoccupied rock to watch over the mini-gathering.
