What a dreadful situation to be stuck in. Could have been anything else but it had to be this.
Rivet was ready to pounce, fur bristled and a serious, almost a bit too feral of a scowl was painted on her face as she stood beside a similarly angry kittypet. Both Rivet and this kittypet were stanced up protectively in front of a lethargic and injured queen of a loner, defending her from a couple of scuffed up and luckily more heavily injured rogue cats that exuded an air of overconfidence.
It was a stalemate. Neither party could make a move or risk getting counterplayed, and they all knew. If Rivet or the kittypet lunged to attack, the other would get outmatched and be unable to protect the queen. If any of the rogues attacked they would get jumped by Rivet or the kittypet. The queen dared not move or else the situation may shift in an unpredictable direction.
Neither side could afford to take a chance, they had to wait for an opening, but impatience crept ever closer among all of these drawn claws that were ready to spill blood at a moment's notice. There were many variables, but Rivet had something else that she could bank on. This disastrous situation was just close enough to the border of the forest and Rivet was the only one among these cats that knew for sure what was beyond the trees and shrubbery— Skyclan. A group of cats that... She wasn't particularly fond of, given their last encounter and by what Brick had said about the forestdweller cats but she could tell that they had some semblance of order, maybe even honor in their ranks like the Rustclaws.
Even so, Rivet had no choice but to bank on that slim, grim hope that those ridiculous forestdweller cats wouldn't make things worse. She had to hope that even they would help save this loner queen. It would be the noble and right thing to do, it was why Rivet was here in the first place.
"Pssh, just look't you. Hard to believe just the two of you gave us trouble..." One of the rogues scoffed. "They won't for any longer, they aught know nobody gets to just skip out on our colony and get away with it!" Another growled, eyes locked onto the queen like a laser. "I've had enough of this farce. Come back with us, sister. Now."
"I'm.. Not going back...!" The queen winced in fear, looking up to Rivet at first, her gaze then lingered on the kittypet. "Hey, back off, you rat-brained pricks! She isn't going back with you, end of story!" The kittypet snarled back, flicking their tail angrily.
"Keep it together, Knight." Rivet ordered curtly to the kittypet, eyes locked on the rogues before her. "We'll make it out of this. You, her, and the kits will all be safe. That's a promise." Spoken with the real conviction of a warrior, despite not being one.
