Assured there was none else he was needed for, the tortoiseshell politely excused himself from the rabble; the rest of the council were more than capable of handling everything for however long Dimmingsun needed to pull him aside for. Merrystalk hesitated, for just a moment, stood outside the den, it was still decently intact, albeit flushed of anything useful herbwise. It wasn't like he had stopped to talk with Dimming alone for... A while now. It wasn't anything against him, but the nauseating sensation writhing down his back at the idea of the spirit there watching him? Starclan, it made him sick.

But, inspte that, Merry pressed ahead. The medicine cat just wanted to check if he was doing okay; that was all. He didn't need to think too far into it. Settling his breath, the tom padded into the den, giving the larger tom a small smile as he approached. "Glad to see the den's fairin' well." He hummed, softly, settling on his haunches as his gaze flickered about the place.

The water had receded, but it didn't settle the quiet fear of the thing collapsing in... The gale guard swallowed hard, instead focusing back on the medicine cat. "Well, what was it ya' needed to check? Thought I was recoverin' okay after everythin', I ain't hackin' up my lungs like I had been." Merry chuckled dryly, though he still sat rather unsettled, paws shuffling beneath him. It was no fault of Dimming that he was unsettled; it wasn't an easy thing to think about, but of all the cats in the territories to talk about it with, he was glad it was with someone he could consider a friend.

For what it's worth, Dimmingsun tries to make the medicine den into something presentable. He tidies up, creates makeshift nests, and even tries to use their shared storage... though there is very little that he can actually put away in terms of usable herbs. Still. It's good for appearances—good for morale. The average warrior does not need to see how much the flood has destroyed. That can only cause panic, and that won't help anyone.

Dimmingsun turns and is almost surprised to see Merrystalk. Of course, the medicine cat had been the one to suggest a check-up, but he had not been certain if his Clanmate would actually comply. Based on Merrystalk's flimsy presence lately, Dimmingsun had expected him to instead focus on the many duties that have now arisen in the aftermath... claim that he had simply forgotten to wander towards this den in particular. Seems like he had thought wrong. He makes a show of glancing around the den; clearly, he doesn't entirely agree with that point.
"It's better than nothing,"
he muses in the end.

After a moment's pause, Dimmingsun decides to strike where Merrystalk probably expects him to already.
"You're done avoiding me?"
Despite his words, there is clear amusement in his voice, like always. He can't exactly blame Merrystalk, so he makes a point not to name the deceased cat that lingers behind this conversation. Dimmingsun's tail sweeps over the ground; an invitation to come further inside.
"I see you've made a point of returning to your duties. I don't see any lingering effects, but it never hurts to check."
He thinks of Honeyflower and Bunnykit, their breaths difficult and ragged.
