[takes place shortly after Crowpaw recovered from the skirmish with Talonpaw]

Belladonnadance had visited Crowpaw every day after her apprentice was placed in the Medicine Den, there was an unspoken bond there, something that united the pair that the black molly was not familiar with. Once he was released, Belladonna elected to take her on a walk through the territory. The walk was quiet, the pair not speaking much until Belladonnadance came to a spot in the pocosin where the moon shone through the trees in a majestic shimmer that seemed to make the fireflies dance. She sat, looking at the black feline that had come under her charge.

"Are ya' doin' better now, kiddo?" She meowed, looking at the apprentice. Crowpaw was aware of her own situation, loosely. Most of her clanmates were now aware that Duskpool of Skyclan was her father after her sobbing fit at the last gathering when she found out he had passed away. However, the molly still had an air of privacy to her, she had not told a soul about Shimmer and the dogs that had taken her mother and sisters; the images that haunted her dreams and made her beg Starclan above to let her stay awake so she wouldn't have to face the demons that tormented her.

"Ya' know," She continued, still looking at the sky rather than her apprentice. "You can tell me anythin' you need, kiddo." She meowed, "I ain't gonna judge ya, it ain't my place." She glanced at the black apprentice, her silver eyes watching the moon in the same way Belladonna did. There was a long pause, she looked away from them again. "But, I ain't gonna force ya either. I don't talk about myself much, either." She sighed, paw gently scraping the dirt.

"I ain't from Shadowclan either, but I ain't from Skyclan. Neither was my pops at first." She gave a sad smile talking about Duskpool again, sighing. "I don't know what brought ya to Shadowclan, but I'm glad you're here." She smiled at Crowpaw, it was genuine. She cared deeply for the feline, feeling a charge over them like a mother to her kin. If she could honour Shimmer's memory in any way, she wanted to be a maternal figure to someone that needed it.

"WHEN ALL THE HATE BURNS OFF, I'M LEFT HERE WITH THE PAIN"

.

Crowpaw has been eerily quiet during their walk, and really just in general ever since the fight with the WindClan apprentice had left them rotting away in the medicine den. Their paws ache, much to their annoyance - they'll now have to get re-used to long treks through the territory after not being allowed such a thing in favor of recovery.
The small apprentice's ear flicks when their mentor speaks, and they sit down next to her, tail curling around themself as they stare down at their paws. "Are ya doin' better now?" What a ridiculous question. But Crowpaw doesn't snap at her, resisting the urge to let their claws dig into the soggy earth. Instead, they keep on staring downward.
"I'm... fine." A completely obvious lie. But what else can Crowpaw say? After seeing their mentor's hunched-over form at the Gathering, tears streaming down her face, and the look she'd given them ever day in the medicine den... aren't they already adding too much to her stress? No one likes a troublesome child... though Crowpaw's definition of 'troublesome' is perhaps warped, they don't know this. Coming home covered in blood and bruises feels the same as exposing wounds of the heart to them. It's all just another problem for others to clean up. It's better if Crowpaw does it themself.

Despite this, he listens intently when Belladonnadance speaks, her gentle voice weaving its way underneath his skin in a way that makes his stomach turn. He knows it's because she feels responsible for him the same way his 'ma was responsible for him. He's not sure if he is comforted by it or utterly repulsed. No one can replace his 'ma. But... her final act had been one of hope. Hope that he would find someone to care for him like she had. Would it be selfish, then, to not accept what life has granted him? He sighs without thinking, tail-tip twitching in annoyance at his own contradicting feelings.
"I don't know what brought ya to ShadowClan, but I'm glad you're here."
This continues to confuse Crowpaw. He had thought that she'd be angry, that punishment would be the result of his foolishness, but that had not happened, and she hasn't shown any indication that it will happen, either.
"Why?" He asks simply. "I... don't understand. I thought you'd call be a disrespectful brat or somethin' when I came back to camp. I don't get along well with anybody. I haven't really done much to prove myself worthy of bein' here... but you're still nice to me anyways. You don't owe me anything... so why?"
