He was the older brother by a minute.
Even before they were taken in by their twoleg, their ma' and pa' had drilled it into his head that he had to be the responsible one. He
had to be the one that looked out for Teddy, no matter what.
He had wished that they had been picked by two different twolegs, but fate had other plans. The small twoleg kit that adopted them was allowed to get two, and she picked Teddy and himself. He could hardly remember what their names had been before that time, what their ma' and pa' had really called them. It was almost demeaning what that little girl called them. Teddy Bear and
Bunny Rabbit. He knew it was because of his ears, stuck down like that of a floppy eared rabbit. It felt like an insult, but who was he to protest when him and his brother were fed well. The only thing he couldn't stand was these ridiculous...
things that the twoleg chose to put on them. A green bandana across Teddy's neck, much too large for his frame that hung far too low on his small body. At least Bunny's fit, he supposed. Even if it was a rather bright purple with all sorts of glittery stars littered across it.
Take care of your brother, no matter what.
The words echoed in his head again as Teddy walked with him through the forest. He had only agreed to go so that his parent's words wouldn't haunt him if the little scrap didn't come back. He had been
so close to letting him go alone, but chickened out at the last moment. Practically flinging himself out of the small door that his twolegs had, rushing out with his brother. And now look where that got him. In the middle of nowhere, with no food in his belly and a whining Teddy. His brother seemed far too excited about it all, overly confident that he had
finally found the way home. As Bunny prepared to retort that it really all looked the same, Teddy tripped over his large bandana and flung them both into the dirt.
Coughing up a mound of dirt as his brother hurriedly helped him up, his brow furrowed in anger.
"We're lost, Teddy!" He shouted, causing nearby birds hiding in the trees to take flight from his outburst. His fur prickling as his brother's eyes welled with tears. He back down slightly, feeling guilty. He
was mad, unbelievably so. And he was scared, probably just as scared as Teddy was. But here he was, having to be the strong "older" brother that took care of the little runt that got them lost.
"So what's your plan now, mousebrain?!" His voice was still raised,
"We don't know how to hunt! For all we know, those clan cats could like eating little kits like you!" He jabbed his paw into Teddy's chest pointedly. He could feel his own stomach growling, reminding him of how long they had been wandering while the darkness began to creep in around them. The idea of finding their twoleg nest was becoming more and more like a fantasy with every fleeting moment. He should never have followed Teddy, let alone follow him in silence while he got them more and more lost.
