With over a moon past since she had stumbled on the clan, Ptarmigankit (as Swirlpaw and Denpaw simply insisted she was to be called here) had settled nicely into the clan's ongoings. Names cemented to memory, the heirarchy of warrior and sun guard and deputy and leader figured out a while ago. The kitten took to the clan structure like fish to water. The names confounded her, but it was a small change in the scheme of what she most struggled with: being a kitten.

It was a sorry sight to most, but to her she wasn't all so phased. She had never known a gentle or cushy life, and she was well aware one would not await her in time. Apprenticeship and warriorhood were inevitable if she was to stay in the clan (which was all but confirmed even if she had yet to utter it aloud, like it was some treasonous thing to renounce her old life).

But even so, Hawkstar and the rest of the clan refused to let her train, let alone leave the camp freely. As it turned out, it was a rule, kittens were to remain within camp in no uncertain terms. It was strange to her, so used to repaying her debt that not having free rein to wander felt almost suffocating.

That was why many cats of the clan sought to give her a kittenhood before she turned 6 moons, and one way she had taken to was a peculiar little game one of the apprentices showed her once. Ptarmigankit spent a while delicately balling some fresh moss up, a dense ball which she looked to with a smile. The act of creation was fun to her itself, clumping pawsful of moss to make a perfectly round ball. It was playing that she seemed often confounded with.

Her gaze met a nearby cat, while it seemed mossball could be a game played alone, she had found it far more fun to chase and bat the thing when someone else was dragged into the game. Not so sure how to ask, with a delicate paw and utterly lacking the strength for much of an impact, she batted it towards the nearby cat.

With a small smile, she looked up to the other cat, far smaller than anyone else in the clan, even with the few handful of other kittens in their midst. "Do you... Wanna play?" Her voice small and squeaky, still sounding far too tiny for a kitten their age, but compared to how they first came to the clan, the missing rattle and wheeze in every word made her sound far clearer for a change.

  • Pester the ptarmigan yet again!!! shes trying so hard to get a good grade in kitten but also feel free to interrogate her (lovingly) i wanna write her more so bad!! also anyone can be the cat she batted the mossball at :3 free for all

BRIGHTNOSE - SKYCLAN WARRIOR

Brightnose had been heading toward the clearing when the mossball rolls up to her, stopping right in front of her paws. She looks in the direction it came to see Ptarmigankit, and she's just barely able to make out the kitten's request to play.
Brightnose has never been that great with kits - not that she doesn't like them, or that she's hostile towards them, but rather she just feels awkward playing kit-games and giving badger rides as a full-grown warrior. Nonetheless, she feels she owes this to Ptarmigankit, knowing that her life before the Clan wasn't an easy one. It's the least Brightnose could do, to give her some sense of kithood and normalcy. To make her feel like she's a part of SkyClan just like everycat else.
"Sure!" she agrees, positioning herself across from the kit and taking the mossball under her paw. Aiming carefully, Brightnose punts it in Ptarmigankit's general direction, giving them ample chance to leap and catch it.

  • Brightnose is a mostly gray she-cat, with lighter fur on one side of her face and darker, swirly stripes along her pelt. She also sports white patches on her face, right ear, chest + belly, tail-tip, and paws. Her eyes are forest green, and her skin is a salmon pink. Her left ear has a couple tears in it, and her nose has a small scar, from an incident that occurred during her apprenticeship.
Brightnose has always excelled more at hunting, thus this is where she feels most confident in aiding her Clan. Though she is sociable, she tends to keep to herself, valuing her alone time when not on patrol or other assigned duties. She enjoys spending her evenings in the corner of camp, catwatching (and sometimes daydreaming). skyclan's territory belongs to cats originally from the gorge, and misfits that wander near their borders, seeking shelter. everyone, either by past lives or current lives, understands the struggle to adapt in a new home. new warriors blend into the shadows of old, apprentices are given a mentor, and kits are raised with love given by the whole clan. swallowbreeze will never forget how drastic of a change stonepaw underwent, a once feral kitten growing into a fine warrior. wishkit's very young age gives her an advantage, and then there is ptarmigankit.

he's fully recovered from his nasty bout of the flu. now, he wanders aimlessly around and wait for his ceremony to arrive. she's sympathetic towards the shift in lifestyle, thankfully, he hasn't tried to test the limits— she's intimidated by hawkstar, but the molly will always be terrified of snowveil. their pointed king had to learn it from someone.

swallowbreeze wanders towards the small game of moss ball. she doesn't usually hang out with kits for fun—hopefully the combined child awkwardness with brightnose isn't too horrible—but it is good to show normalcy to the former-loner kittens. "mind if i jump in?" she asks, her tail-tip waving bashfully behind her, "when i was a kitten... my denmates used to see who could bounce the moss ball off the wall... it was fun for them, i think, until it'd explode everywhere."

Reactions: Ptarmigankit
———————————— You're not meant to sing along, it isn't that kind of song. ✦

For a few heartbeats, Ptarmigankit froze up, apprehensive. Skyclan had taught her that relaxing wasn't something to look down on. But for a breath of time, they expected to be sneered at and ignored, as they often expected.

But unlike their colony, even the cats, the least likely to kittensit, wouldn't turn them away. It was Brightnose's softening expression and taking of the mossball underpaw that the jolt of fear just as quickly left the kitten's eyes.

Gaze affixed on the mossball, she hadn't expected Brightnose to launch the thing upwards. Her expression widening, she readied herself before springing up and just barely managing to catch the thing between her paws. Though her landing wasn't in the slightest graceful, falling with a small huff but still a smile across her maw with the thing successfully caught in her paws.

As they pulled themself to their paws, shaking their head - a little disoriented from the tumble - the little smile didn't falter from their face as they noticed Swallowbreeze had appeared. Ptarmigankit's eyes crinkled seeing the familiar face. "Did you see that, Swallowbreeze? I caught it! I really caught it!" They were far from the most adept on their paws, having missed out most of the time. Kittens their age had to train and learn how to use their paws, so small victories meant the world to the kitten (and even more so when a cat they looked up to was witness to it!).

But, as the medicine cat offered to join, her eyes glittered. Ptarmigankit had already been stunned that a warrior would entertain her game, let alone Swallowbreeze! They nodded emphatically, before a slip of a snicker left their maw. "It's okay if this one explodes, I can make another one!"

Steadiying themself on too-small paws, Ptarmigankit kicked the thing towards Swallowbreeze as hard as they could, watching the thing tumble towards the medicine cat. Her smile not faltering for a moment.

BRIGHTNOSE - SKYCLAN WARRIOR

Noticing the change in Ptarmigankit's expression, Brightnose can feel herself relax a little, and a smile takes form on her face as the kitten leaps up and catches the mossball. "Wow, great catch!" she compliments them; the landing was a bit concerning, and for a moment Brightnose wants to apologize for tossing it so high, but Ptarmigankit bounces back from it like it was nothing.
When Swallowbreeze pads up to the two of them offering to join, Brightnose lets out a small breath of relief. It'll feel less awkward with another cat around... her ears perk up at the mention of moss-ball explosions.
"Haha, I used to do that back in my kitten days," she purrs, a hint of nostalgia in her voice. "Stars, that used to entertain me for hours. Bits of moss'd get everywhere, and I'd just roll 'em back into a ball and start over." She nods along when Ptarmigankit voices confidence in their moss-ball making skills. "Exactly, that's the spirit," she encourages them, watching as the ball is kicked toward the medicine cat.

Reactions: Ptarmigankit
swallowbreeze watches ptarmigankit stumble around the moss ball, nerves poking at the edges of her fur, finally relaxing when it's caught by the kitten. after learning her true age the medicine cat was shocked, but her motor skills were developing without much issue. "yes, i see! great job." she hums, smiling.

she settles between brightnose and ptarmigankit in a sort of triangle shape, readying herself to catch the moss ball. swallowbreeze slowly relaxes as the seconds tick by, enjoying the company of her clanmates. "did you ever see who could make it hit the ceiling?" brightnose is one of the few cats who'd remember the gorge nursery.

the moss ball tumbles and gently hops across the short gap, and swallowbreeze carefully catches it between her paws. "that one really rolled... nice throw!" she says, unsure about her ability to compliment a child's work. swallowbreeze tosses it towards brightnose next, watching it roll to the warrior.

BRIGHTNOSE - SKYCLAN WARRIOR

Brightnose snickers as Swallowbreeze brings up the ceiling incident. "Yeah, that was me," she admits, though the tips of ears burn a little even now. "I got scolded up and down for that one - but it was a dare, in my defense." She internally thanks the queens that had put up with her rambunctiousness all those moons ago... Brightnose couldn't possibly see herself being able to handle that.
She easily catches the moss-ball when it's rolled to her, trapping it underneath her paw before turning to Ptarmigankit. "You ready? Here it comes!" Her tail flits back and forth in a playful gesture, giving the kit a warm smile as she bats it in their direction.

LEADER OF SKYCLAN

.

Hawkstar watches from her leader's perch, lazing across the bark with her good eye cracked to take in the action between her clanmates. She is pleased to know that Ptarmigankit is settling in well, even after the work she had set in front of them. They're quick to alight at the idea of companionship, and their good nature would work well under a cat like Cherrydawn ... or maybe even Brightnose herself. It would be winter by the time they would be ready to apprentice, but still the gears turned in Hawkstar's head. Maybe she'd put some time aside to talk with her mentor choices alone and really see what they could offer to SkyClan's youngest new recruit.

It was about time she started getting invested in apprentice pairs again.

———————————— You're not meant to sing along, it isn't that kind of song. ✦

Ptarmigankit was nowhere used to commendations for useful behaviour; she barely got a glance from the herbalist for the plants brought back to the colony. But in Skyclan, something that seemed so benign as catching a mossball earned the kitten compliments; they smiled sheepishly, but the change of pace the clan gave to her wasn't unwelcome. For once, she was seen, not just as a tool or a body to feed, but as a cat.

They didn't want to think too long on the matter; all else they would get choked up, but it was times like these that made it feel so natural to want to stay. And, well, it seemed like these cats wanted her here, too. Just the prospect made the kitten practically glow with joy as they watched Swallowbreeze pass the mossball back to Brightnose, listening curiously to the warrior and medicine cats' conversation.

The kitten had been learning about Skyclan and how it worked, but a thought came to mind. "What was Skyclan like when you were kittens?" She wandered, looking up with a curious glint in her eyes. "Was the clan really different then or not?" She knew things could change easily, swapping of leadership, fights or arguments. Or just as simple as cats leaving or joining. Those she knew and was familiar with, but if she was to stay in Skyclan, learning the history felt just as important.

Though before the two older cats could answer, Brightnose readied the moss ball to be launched at Ptarmigankit again. The kitten stared down the moss ball with a sliver of her tongue poking between clentched teeth, determination alight in her eyes. But, as the warrior kicked it, something else caught her attention, just from the corner of their eye.

Ptarmigankit's eyes flickered away from the mossball to see Hawkstar out on her perch, her throne high above the clan. The leader had been kind and gentle to the kitten, being the one determined to make sure she enjoyed her kittenhood rather than grow restless trying to fill a role she didn't need to yet. The kitten grew distracted, for just a moment, as a smile flashed upon her maw, grateful for the kindness of not only the leader but the code that allowed her to stay. One day, she would help uphold it, Ptarmigan was sur-

In her distracted state, the kitten completely forgot about the mossball as it flew at her paws and made her stumble face-first into the floor rather unceremoniously, trying and failing to catch the thing. The scrap of fur spluttered, a little embarrassed, stumbling like that. "S-sorry, I got distracted..." She chuckled weakly, standing up and just grateful her mossball hadn't disintegrated. They dusted themself off and tamped the mossball back to a more rounded shape, trying to avoid eye contact, feeling a little foolish.

BRIGHTNOSE - SKYCLAN WARRIOR

Brightnose's eyes widen at Ptarmigankit's fumble, and she offers the kit a sympathetic smile. "Don't worry," she attempts to reassure them. "It happens. There's always opportunity to try again." Following their gaze, Brightnose looks to Hawkstar, the leader of SkyClan. She considers Ptarmigankit's question, thinking on it for a moment. A lot has changed - yet, oddly, some things have felt the same, even after everything...
"When Swallowbreeze and I were kittens, things were quite different," she explains. "We had a different leader then, and our Clan was quite a bit smaller in numbers than it is now. We lived in a different place, too - one that was very, very far from here. When Hawkstar became leader, we made the journey to this forest." She smiles, though it's hard to tell if the glint in her eye comes from nostalgia or something else... "Personally, I'm glad that we came here - and I think that Hawkstar has done a good job leading SkyClan. She must be under a lot of pressure... I'm not sure how she does it." She shakes her head, stopping herself from rambling too much about her admiration for her leader before she embarrasses herself. Instead, she turns her attention back to Ptarmigankit. "Do you know that this isn't the first time that SkyClan has called this place its home?" she asks them. "Our ancestors lived here, countless moons ago. Perhaps when we made the journey, it was StarClan leading us to where we truly belong..." she glances to Swallowbreeze briefly as she says this - Brightnose hasn't particularly had any big visions or messages from StarClan, but if anycat had, it was likely to be the medicine cat. Still, she did feel a deep respect for her ancestors that give Silverpelt its form, and for the cats she's known in life that have now joined StarClan's ranks. She thinks for a moment of her sister - but the thought gets pushed to the side in fear of getting emotional in front of the young kit, something she's not keen on doing.
