MAGGOTKIT
.
The breeze carries with it the words of Maggotkit's friends. They chitter and chatter, sharing information between each other and Maggotkit listens, trying to decipher each individual message.

There's something about a... woodpecker, threatening to eat their young, and Maggotkit angles its ears to listen. And sure enough, from time to time, it can hear the soft rhytmic thuds of a bird smashing its beak against the bark. Another chitter speaks of coldness approaching and of great sleep - this is a constant message being shared among the small critters, Maggotkit can only wonder how bad this leaf-bare is truly going to be.

One more thing reaches Maggotkit's ears and it takes a while to untangle its meaning. It's grumpy and annoyed and speaks of furry things invading its hole in the ground - if Maggotkit understands correctly, it should be near the edge of the camp, but still within its bounds. If it is as the kitten thinks, then it would do them well to investigate.

On short steps, Maggotkit walks over to what it thinks the place to be and sure enough, finds a little burrow in the ground. Perhaps the creatures of the territory deemed this place safe enough from leaf-bare. But unbeknowst to them, this place shelters ShadowClan - predators, and hungry ones at that. A single dung beetle marches around the burrow, grumpy at having its sleeping hole invaded, and Maggotkit picks it up gently. Then, it crouches lower and simply waits, its only company the dung beetle, listing out all the injustices done to it this season. It's good company, Maggotkit thinks as it listens.

A long time passes and the kitten almost dozes off, when the upset critter points out the nose of its squatter poking out of the burrow. Maggotkit tenses, ears perked up and alerted, but dares not move. It stays still for a breath and then the mouse climbs out of the hole. When it's far enough from its stolen shelter, Maggotkit pounces before it can run back inside and bites into it.

With the mouse now dead at its paws, the dung beetle calms down, satisfied. There are more in the hole, the dead mouse's kin, but if Maggotkit is patient enough, it can probably get rid of them all, feed itself and its family, and help out its new friend all in one.
OOC: Open to any campbound or semi-campbound cats! Since we rolled better this month, i'm letting folks take both 9 and a 10 result on a 1d10 as a success! Feel free to join Maggotkit in its "hunt" or find a spot of your own! Maggotkit rolled a 9.

Nettlefrost
He/Him
23 Moons
ShadowClan Warrior & Thief
PENNED BY Sheogorath

He can hear something, though he's not sure what, exactly. The movement of small paws. The ruffling of fur. The displacement of soil and the brief sound of a struggle. And then? Blood. The smell of food. A mouse, he thinks, though the blind tom cannot see it for himself. Hunger gnaws at his belly as Nettlefrost rises to his paws to investigate, moves across the camp with a swish of his nail, nostrils flaring to take in the scent.

"What happened?" He asks aloud. And then he hears it again. A rustling. Tiny claws scraping sandy grit. Another mouse has darted from the little burrow, shooting past Maggotkit. Nettlefrost dives for the noise, but his paws slam against nothing but air and damp earth as the mouse darts across ShadowClan's camp. Catch it! Somebody catch it! The thief turns on his heels, but it's already out of reach. He can hear its tiny feet scrabbling against the dirt as it flees.
OOC: rolled a 1 lol

Patrols done for the day, Silver did what they did best! Nothing. They were content to laze about, chuffing with a pleased expression after eating their fill with their smug little expression about their apprenticeship. They didn't care how long it'd been; they would hold it above the others.

But, amidst their treacherous task of absolutely nothing, their face knit in confusion as they heard shuffling and digging, tufted ears flicking in frustration. "I'm tryna sleep here!" Silverpaw snapped, prying an eye open to see Maggotkit snuffling around at something. Their brow furrowed as the apprentice pushed to their paws, heavy steps approaching with a tilted head.

Then, a dart of greyish fur came to view as Maggotkit snapped it up. Silverpaw looked in genuine surprise to see the tiny thing had caught a mouse. "Woah. There's a mouse burrow in camp? Maybe I chaulked you wrong, Maggot, that's a good find!" Fluffy tail whisped behind them as they stared greedily at the mouse. But maybe there was a fatter thing inside the burrow. "C'mon, let me have a turn!"

Mismatced eyed tried to peer into the hole, chuffing as they couldn't see inside. Instead, they pried a fat little paw into the burrow, batting about until they felt something writhe within, squeaking incessantly. Teeth flashed in a grin as another mouse darted from within. Greedily, their paw darted out and managed to grasp the thing under a heavy paw. It squealed before being silenced between unleashed fangs.

Silverpaw licked their lips with a satisfied grin, looking to Maggotkit with a genuine smile. "If I were Sablestar, you woulda been apprentices with the rest've us, you're better than some of these warriors at hunting already." They chuckled with a snide look, prey was scarce sure but really Silverpaw thought everyone was just too lazy to try harder to find good prey, not like the two of them!

Wisteriastrike doesn't notice her child hovering near a mouse's den - much less the fact that there is a den in their camp at all. The only point she notices that something is amiss is when Nettlefrost suddenly launching towards something, failing, and that something skittering further into camp. Her ear twitches, though admittedly the caretaker doesn't have much care in her at the moment. Those mice will be caught with how many hungry maws lazing about. No warrior truly needs her meddling, not in this way at least.

Her tail sweeps across the ground, however, as she finally takes notice of Maggotkit. Silverpaw greedily fishes up a mouse nearly straight from the barely hidden sett, with her child stationed nearby. Her ear twitches as she joins the duo, half expecting Silverpaw to begin devouring their feast right then and there. Her tail curls around her child, and she warns with a half-hearted, "Don't sit too close, bugling; mice can be fearless when cornered..." Her gaze tilts down towards it, and she continues with, "I once knew a tom who had his eyes stolen by some foolhardy mice. You wouldn't want that, would you?"

MAGGOTKIT
.
At the sound of Silverpaw's grumpy voice, Maggotkit lowered its ears - it didn't mean to disturb anyone, it was actually doing the opposite! Helping out a friend that had been disturbed first. The big apprentice approached the little kitten and Maggotkit cowered lower, trying to disappear, not wanting to meet the big cat's wrath.

Yet at the sight of the mouse Maggotkit had managed to catch, Silverpaw instead congratulated the kitten and it looked up with round happy eyes. So everything was okay?

Maggotkit watched as they pushed their paw inside the beetle's home, sending another mouse darting away from the den - but not fast enough for the giant apprentice. Silverpaw quickly killed the mouse, to the beetle's satisfaction, and spoke at Maggotkit. It didn't fully understand why they were saying what they were, their voice booming and intimidating, but it sounded good, like praise almost. But Maggotkit barely had time to think about it as its mother approached it, curling her warm tail around its small body.

But instead of praise from its mother, Maggotkit was met with a warning. Not that it cared, not really - all it wanted to do was help its friend and that has been achieved. Everything else was just background noise to the kitten and it pressed its body against Wisteriastrike's, enveloping itself in the warmth.
OOC: Rolled a 1, did not even try to attempt to hunt
