Still so young, Desperate for attention!

indentttLukewarm water dribbles from Mothbite's chin and onto the ground, creating a wet trail through Shadowclan's camp. His gait is akward, having to move around the body of the fish he's carrying by it's tail. The limp body slaps against his legs with every step. He pauses for a moment, scanning the clearing for his target. When his eyes land on Timberfrost, he mrrps quietly, and makes a beeline towards him, gracelessly dropping the fish by his paws.

indentttThe sunfish makes a loud thwap as it hits the hard ground in front of Timberfrost. It's eyes are clouded and dull, now, but Mothbite's own hold a hopeful shine. "Here. You looked lonely, so I got you this." It'd been a lot of work to learn how to catch these, but Mothbite had finally done it. Though, not with Timberfrost in mind, at first. Mothbite had been thinking of his own stomach. But sitting by the pond left him with a lot of time to think. Timberfrost had mentioned liking fish before, hadn't he? But he's so busy, now, even with his own kits all grown up. He probably doesn't have time to trek all the way out of camp to catch any. Mothbite sort of owed him one, too. The older tom had been looking out for him basically since they'd met.

indentttMothbite ate his first catch himself, of course. But the second would go to Timberfrost.

—————————————————— 'Till I can't run no more ✦

For once in his life, the tom was resting. The air was warm, pleasantly so, and so the chocolate-colored cat was splayed out on the edges of camp. He watched with heavily lidded golden eyes as the others milled about, attending to the every day things. Every day was really the same these days, calmingly so, and Timber didn't mind it one bi- Bi- ACHOO!

He let out a small mutter of annoyance at the sudden sneeze, blinking a sudden bleariness out of his eyes. The tom hadn't been feeling the best the last few days, even he would admit that, but it was... honestly more annoying than anything. There was an exhaustion to it, of course, but he'd get over the sickness quickly. Timber surely had to. He didn't get to think on this long, though, as a familiar figure suddenly strutted in front of him.

"...Fish?" He muttered incredulously at the sudden delightful morsel he now found between his paws, and the tom turned it over between his paws with a sort of kit-like wonder. It took just a moment for him to register what the other had said, but as soon as he did, he couldn't help but let out a small chuckle. "Well, thank you. It's nice to see you too, Mothbite." Timberfrost said warmly, tilting his head up towards the younger warrior. His golden eyes returned back to the fish after a moment, and it took everything he had in him to feign a sort of mild interest. Shadowclan cats' favorite foods weren't meant to be fish, he chided himself. He had to fit in, had to conform to the mold—but there was that telltale twinkle in his eyes all the same. "Must've been a hard catch, yeah?" Timber murmured, once more inspecting the sunfish. It didn't look weak whatsoever—it must've been a fight to get the damn thing on shore. "The mud here grabs at your paws like nothing else, I swear-"

He cut himself off, looking at the other with an inquisitive gaze. "You're more than welcome to join me, of course. I mean, it's awfully warm outside today, .... would be a perfect time to take a break and sunbathe." The tom said cheerfully, still clutching onto the fish between his paws like some sort of lifeline. It was just bad manners to eat it before he had gotten his chatting out, he knew that much!

Still so young, Desperate for attention!

indenttt Mothbite preens under the praise. "Nah, it wasn't so hard!", he mews. It's a white lie. The water clinging to his fur and the mud caked on his paws give him away. Still, even though it wasn't easy, it was beyond the skills of most Shadowclan cats. A talent he could be proud of

indenttt Mothbite is perfectly happy to soak in the attention and be on his way, but Timberfrost's invitation gives him pause. His instincts clash and roil in his mind. A part of him wants to greedily accept, to lay down and bare his belly, to give up all he has to any figure that can begin to be described as 'parental'. Another part of him wants to hiss and spit, to reel away from the offered kindness and honey coated words. He knows better now, than to accept this sort of familiarity without expecting to repay it somehow.

indentttHis jaw sets, and Mothbite looks into Timberfrost's eyes. He searches for the icy coldness that he recognized in Serpentberry far to late. Despite his prying gaze, he can't find anything but gentle warmth.

indenttt"A-alright. Yeah, I'll share prey with you." Stiffly, he moves next to Timberfrost and settles on his stomach. "You should still take the first bite, though! It's probably been moons since you've eaten fish, I ate one just a few sunrises ago." Mothbite watches Timberfrost intently as sinks his teeth into the fish. Satisfied that he's enjoying the meal, Mothbite trills, and begins nibbling at the meat of the tail. "It's good, right? The ponds here look dirty, but they're so full of life. We'd be totally lost without them."

indentttThe pair eat in comfortable quiet. It's a few minutes before Mothbite breaks the silence. "Monsterpaw is doing really well, you know. He's really eager to learn." Monsterpaw is really patient with him, too. Mothbite knows he's not the worlds most attentive mentor, but Monsterpaw never brings it up - not to his face, at least. "I feel kinda bad for him. It's clear he wants to learn to fight, but I can't really help him with that. 'S not my, uh, skillset." Man, if Monsterpaw had seen all the ways Mothbite has gotten his ass kicked, there's no way he'd get any respect. "But I guess I do my best, anyways."
