Quailstep stood in the clearing, looking at her assembled Clanmates - young and old, gathered together… to listen to her? It felt so strange, to think that everyone would pay attention to something she had to say. But clearly, Hawkstar placed this trust in her, and she was going to do the best she could.

"Fellow cats of SkyClan!" she began. "As we continue our celebration of a year in our new home, I'd like to offer everyone a bit of a friendly competition!"

"This competition is meant for all of us - from the young to the old - and will serve as a reminder of the guide for our lives which we hold so dear. Collaborate, listen, and help each other as you compete for the honor of being the ones most knowledgeable of our Warrior Code!" Quailstep took another step forward, grinning at her Clanmates.

"Clanmates, divide yourself into three teams! Each team will work amongst themselves to prove their knowledge of the code… with a scavenger hunt! Collect fourteen items, each to represent one of the tenets of the code, and bring them to me to prove your knowledge! You may find what you seek in camp, or out in the pine forest or further, but I trust your minds and loyalty to determine what best reflects our way of life!" As the cats gravitate towards the three groups, her gaze lands upon yours.

"Your team will be Team Trout, named for one of our leaders of old, a noble cat who upheld our traditions. Bring to me an item representing each rule of the code in order to prove yourselves!"
OOC: Welcome to the Moonlight Celebration Scavenger Hunt!
Your team will need to work together in order to receive the prize of 8 points towards the event badge! Even if your team does not manage to complete all 14 rules, anyone who participates will get 4 points!
For reference, the code can be found here; there are 14 rules of the code.
Members of the team can be of any age, as you can find items both in and out of the camp.
A character may only join one team and you may only have one character in each team.
Please allow for other people to post before you make a second post in the thread!

In order to find an item for the scavenger hunt, you may roll a d10. On a 6 or higher, your character finds an item to represent one of the rules of the code - you can pick which! Just come up with the item and how you will justify it connecting to that particular rule!

The Moonlight Celebration mega thread has some prompts if you're having difficulty, but feel free to come up with your own ideas!

I will keep this post updated with which rules for the code have been covered by this team - the competition will end on December 16th!

Rules Covered: 3, 4, 10, 11

BRIGHTNOSE | SUN GUARD
"ALWAYS CONFUSING THE THOUGHTS IN MY HEAD"

.

The Warrior Code - it's something all SkyClan cats live by, passed down through countless generations. The very essence of life that makes up a true warrior's purpose. Brightnose, of course, knows all of the rules by heart, as do her fellow Clanborn warriors. Whatever Quailstep had cooked up involving a Code-themed scavenger hunt would surely be beneficial as both a refresher course for cats such as herself and a learning opportunity for cats newer to the Clan.

She turns to her team - Team Trout, as Quailstep had called them - and attempts to rally them. She's not much of a public speaker, but her friend had undoubtedly worked hard to set all of this up, and she wants to show her appreciation by getting very invested in it.
"Ahem! Team Trout! Let's - uh - let's plan our route of action to best secure each and every hidden item!" She scans the small crowd. There's certainly a range of different cats, which could be used to their advantage. Hm…
"I would personally suggest we split into smaller groups of two or three to search, and regroup here after… uh, let's say sunhigh. Warriors and apprentices can scout the territory, queens and kits can scout the camp. Let's keep in mind all fourteen rules within the Code as we're searching, okay? If anyone needs a refresher on them, I can recite them for you before we split up." She smiles politely, her ears pinned back ever so slightly with surprise at her own initiative. It's for Quailstep though, so this is okay, right? Hopefully she's not overstepping.

//ummm i rolled a 5 so bright is here for moral support i guess!! 😃 /silly

Cloudbearer found himself gravitating to the group that Brightnose was rallying, looking to the sun guard for guidance and nodding along as Quailstep and Brightnose explained the rules.

Hm... the tenets of the code. It was definitely a bit of a creative exercise, but one that he was happy to participate in. After all, since he'd learned of the lack of code in the other Clans, it was even more important that they upheld these precious traditions.

He pondered the code, looking around the camp, and then... A-ha! He padded outside of camp, where the remains of prey were deposited, searching for a bone with plenty of bite marks. He trotted back into camp, placing it before Quailstep and Brightnose.

"'Prey is killed only to be eaten,'" he recited. "The marks on this bone represent our consumption of the prey and our effort to not waste what StarClan provides."
OOC: Rolled a 7! Cloudbearer has brought an item for Rule #4.

Ptarmiganpaw sat at the side of Brightnose, one of the cats she looked up to most, listening to Quailstep's explanation and Brightnose's rallying. The young apprentice did not rush off to find something random; instead, they sat listing the code. Even as a new apprentice, she had memorised the tenets of Starclan through and through.

Watching as other teams scattered, she tried to recall her first discussion of the code. It felt so long, yet it was as fresh in her mind as if it were yesterday. Talking with Swirlpaw, now Swirlstrike, a thoughtful expression crossed her mind. Ptarmiganpaw didn't know if it was in the spirit of the search, but there was one code she found the most admirable.

So, they stepped forward, empty pawed and looked to Quailstep sheepishly. "I hope this isn't cheating... But I sorta represent the code to never neglect a kit in pain or in danger, clanborn or not." They stared at their paws, but still smiled. "That part of the code saved me, 'cause even if I wasn't born to the clan, I've been accepted like I was always here."

"ALWAYS CONFUSING THE THOUGHTS IN MY HEAD"

.

Brightnose watches as the other cats get to work, already making headway. "Good job, everyone - I'll be back soon. I'm gonna search the territory, I have an idea…" With a swish of her tail, she bounds out of camp and weaves through the trees of the territory in true SkyClanner fashion.

It takes a little while, but eventually, she reaches the border with RiverClan. She's basically memorized her path to get here by now, and she wastes no time in searching the border for something that will represent what she has in mind.
On the bank of the river, embedded in the frosted dirt, is a pebble. It's decently round, worn on the edges from the tests of time, and it carries the distinctive scent of SkyClan soil mixed with that of the river. Brightnose rinses the dirt off as well as she can before carrying it with her back to camp.

"Quailstep!" she calls, padding up to her friend with excitement in every step. She sets the pebble down in front of her, looking down at it as she explains its meaning.
"I brought this pebble from our border with RiverClan. I wanted to find something that could symbolize our dedication to checking and marking the borders of our territory every day, and what better to represent that than something found at the border itself?" It's one of the most important rules, in Brightnose's opinion. Border patrols aren't her favorite - never have been - but she would much rather go on a boring patrol to mark SkyClan's borders than to leave her friends vulnerable to attack. "Protecting our borders is also protecting our Clan, and I care so much about all of you… that's why I picked this rule, specifically." Her ear flicks with slight embarrassment - she's still getting used to vocalizing such feelings to her Clanmates - but she hopes that the pebble will count toward the team's success regardless.

// rolled a 7 -> success. Rule 10 - Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats.

Cloudbearer thought for another moment more, his ear twitching as his mind pored over the different rules of the code they hadn't covered yet.

He thought to his reappearance in the Clan, how he'd been nursed back to health not just by herbs, but by warriors coming by to bring him fresh prey in order to regain his strength.

I probably shouldn't make them all about food,
he chuckled to himself before heading to the log that made up their medicine cat den. He stretched, scratching at the bark of the fallen log before taking a piece off and grasping it in his mouth. He brought it back over to Quailstep, placing it with their team's other items.

"'Elders, caretakers, sick or injured cats, and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors.'" He recited. "I recently spent a long time sick and injured, and thanks to cats bringing me fresh prey while I resided in the medicine den, I was able to recover."
OOC: Rolled a 10! Covering rule 3.

With her one easy thing to bring along, Ptarmiganpaw pondered the code quietly. She took to her paws and, with a breath, decided to wander the nearby territory for something to bring back for the scavenger hunt.

Mutedly as she padded along, she recited the code in her mind and tried to recall all that her teammates had brought along. Prey for those who needed to be provided for; Prey not to be wasted or disrespected; Boundaries must be checked and respected.

Much of the code was intangible, stuff that could be represented easily had already been brought to Quail, maybe there was more, but finding what could represent it was easier said than done... Ptarmiganpaw recited the code under her breath as her gaze mulled the area; there had to be something.

Defend your Clan, even with your life. Do not hunt or trespass on another Clan's territory. A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice. Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name. A cat cannot be made deputy without having mentored at least one apprentice.

Her face scrunched up a little; they wouldn't allow themself to grow frustrated, not when this was just a friendly competition. Ptarmigan's gaze fell upon a feather, batting it about absently. But the longer she gazed upon it, there was an air of recognition. The feather was large, a pale-brownish colour.

She wasn't much use telling birds apart yet, but she would never forget the day in her old colony some soldiers brazenly brought back an owl for them all to feast on. The herbalist was furious to see injuries incurred from the fight they deemed unreasonable. But Ptarmigan wouldn't forget some of the kits plucking feathers from the great thing to play with, the soldiers talking amongst themself how the thing swooped down without a sound. A smile tugged at her maw as she stooped down and took the thing in her maw, turning tail to bring it back to Quailstep.

Ptarmiganpaw's expression glowed as she hopped back with the owl feather, dropping it as she looked up to Quailstep. "New warriors are to keep a silent vigil for one night after being given their warrior name." They reached out and pushed the feather closer to the sun guard. "Owl's wings are silent when they swoop down, and they hunt in the night. A silent vigil for one night." It was pure happenstance to find the feather; she just hoped the thing wasn't anywhere near...

𓆦 𖢥 𓆨 𓆣 𐀔 Chrysalisgaze 𐀔 𓆣 𓆨 𖢥 𓆦

She had merely watched for a while, but didn't get up to join her clanmates. Today was one of those days when she felt exhausted, when the air struggled to enter her body through her damaged throat. She sat silently as both the younger and the older of the clan participated.

She had planned not to participate herself, but even she found her paws twitching, her mind racing with options. Defend your Clan, even with your life. That was the very first code, and, Chrysalisgaze realised, the one she had found herself closest to these days. She had always felt so sure about the code and she was ready to die for her clan. But she wasn't ready to die, she realised as she recalled how her body fought to stay alive even as she slipped out of consciousness.

Without a word, Chrysalisgaze stood up and padded over to the healer's den. The nest she had bled on was long buried, the scent of blood beneath the ground so as not to attract any predators, but that would have been too morbid anyway. Especially in front of the young. Instead, Chrysalisgaze hooked her claw into an empty, unused moss bedding and took out a small chunk. Not enough to inconvenience anyone deemed to sleep in it, but enough for the scent of herbs to linger within.

Cats were to die for their clan, shall the situation turn dire, but that didn't mean that was the only option. No cat had to die, not with Swallowbreeze amongst them. And this moss was a reminder of healing, not of death. Chrysalisgaze hoped that would be enough.

"A bit of bedding from the healer's den." the scout approached Quailstep, her voice hoarse. "For the very first code."
