LEADER OF SKYCLAN

.

Snow had begun to fall in the forest, a light dusting that paled the pine trees of SkyClan's territory and frosted over before the morning sun had risen over the horizon. Even fluffed out in full against the sharp new cold, Hawkstar's short fur did little to keep her warm. Smaller and slighter than most of her warriors, the proud leader had abandoned her post for the day's meeting to envelop herself in Flowercloud's hulking form, protected from the wind by a large deputy-shaped coat.

"Okay, everybody fall in. Quickly, I'm freezing my tail off here." Notably, Hawkstar had tucked her tail under the fluffy tip of Flowercloud's own. Freezing, but not frozen to be certain.

"First off, we've got some new warriors to welcome. Stonepaw, you have bloomed under Stormcrow's tutelage as a strong and capable cat. Good under pressure. Level-headed even when it is reasonable for you to lose all sense. For your devotion to your clan, your clear head, and your conviction, I name you Stoneroot." the pointed king's eye slid to Stormcrow and she gave the blue she-cat a slight nod: good job. Stoneroot was a fine addition to SkyClan's ranks, even well after her peers had earned their names. All good things in time.

She allowed the small cheers and applause to settle before continuing, electric blue sliding off Stormcrow and over to the large orange tom in the leather collar at the front. "Tigger, your assistance during our journey was more helpful than you know. SkyClan's history of taking in and training daylight warriors is a long and proud one, but I trust that your ability to find us once more after such a long way has proven your grit already. For your seemingly tireless energy and spirit, I name you Tiggerbounce. Welcome to SkyClan, officially." (pretend the rta has already gone up I'M WRITING IT)

Berrykit, Ducklingkit, Dovekit, Yolkkit, Peonykit. All of you are more than ready to start training, let's get you out there. Berrypaw, you'll be under Teaselfeather. Ducklingpaw, to Tawnybeam. Buttercupbriar will oversee Dovepaw. Yolkpaw, go to Maplemouse, and Peonykit, you're with Chrysalisgaze.

Chewingpaw… I think you need a change. Let's put you with Cloudbearer."

Hawkstar let out a sharp inhale, her breath pluming in a frosty cloud in front of her face. She peered up, and puffed something at Flowercloud, inconceivable to the rest of their clan. Your turn.

FLOWERCLOUD

DEPUTY OF SKYCLAN

Flowercloud enjoyed the snow. The thin layer that gently fell onto the ground was not yet enough to play in- but soon, shed be of a kit again, leaping into piles of snow and flinging it towards other warriors. The time of year when she cold actually feel the cold, instead of sweating through her coats of fur. The time of year she could con even more cats into a large cuddle pile. She did not question or even flinch when Hawkstar retreated from the rock to succumb to her dense warm coat. She couldn't very well hold back the rumbles of a purr as Hawkstar pressed into her, making sure her leader knew she had her back.

The one time she was hesitant to not lower herself for her king, instead, being as if she was her kings shadow- yet her tail wrapped gently over the points thin one. Hawkstar spoke, and Flowerclouds eyes lay with pride upon her clan. Even.. even if her nephew should have been here- they continued forward, one step at a time. And it began with - "stoneroot! Stoneroot!" She cheered, voice loud as always as green eyes leveled to blue with pride. From where stoneroot came, she had always been proud. Stoneroots steps started angry, then filled with work- and flowercloud would indeed say that Stoneroot found her footing. She only hoped the new warrior knew how proud they were of her. How courageous she was to keep forward in stride.

Tigger to Tiggerbounce- the dependable, kind, and fortunate kitty pet that one day wandered back after helping them on the journey so long ago. A fitting name, and a fitting time here - he's proven so much already.

Her gaze fell to Teaselfeathers- her childs, her light- receiving the first apprentice was always the best feeling, but also the scariest. Each kit called forward was assigned a mentor, and her gaze followed to each warrior, then apprentice pair each. Her cheers lifted loud again, chants drowned by the cheers of the clan. Her family- her everything.

"Skyclan-" she started, her tail flicking slightly, before back over Hawkstars own. "Patrol time.... I will be taking the lead with Thunderclan. We won't even look their direction. Starlitpath, you're taking shadowclan. Maplemouse, you can cover windclan, anddddd Quailstep, can you check the unclaimed border?" She directed it quickly, but did not move to set out immediately, not until Hawkstar was ready to part from the warmth. Gently, she lowered herself to rest her chin on her leaders head, a gentle caress of warmth.

Love me to my bones...

Cloudbearer looked up in surprise. He'd mentioned being willing to take on an apprentice one day, now that he'd returned, but so soon! And it being a reassignment... He wondered what her previous mentor thought of that.

He looked over to Chewingpaw - she was old enough for warriorhood, but he'd heard that her arrival to the Clan had been when she was already apprentice age. There would be some catching up to do, in order to have her on the same level as her peers. He smiled as he padded up to her, touching his nose to her forehead.

"I'm honored to take on the rest of your apprenticeship, Chewingpaw," he meowed softly.

Stormcrow settles near her apprentice as the meeting is called, knowing what is to come. She does not show it, perhaps, but she is proud. Her eyes have a certain glint in them as Hawkstar speaks, as Stonepaw's new name is announced; Stoneroot. She joins her clan members as they chant the new name, a steady rhythm to it.

Then, she dips her head, and speaks surprisingly softly to Stoneroot. "I knew you'd make a fine warrior," she says. "You have overcome more than many, and though you were not born here… you have put down your roots, grown strong. You are a true Skyclanner, Stoneroot. You have proven it beyond a shadow of a doubt."

It was an almost bitter sort of day. Maplemouse's little niece, still so small and wide-eyed, was being apprenticed that day. It reassured her gently that she would do wonderfully; Hawkstar would give her the perfect mentor to help her thrive. But even as the tiny kit sat before the clan, even the mink couldn't stifile the writhing fear beneath their pelt. When it and Mulberry found the tiny thing, their brother took a paternal mantle for the tiny sprout. Maple was willing to be as much help as they could.

And Starclan were they proud to see their niece growing amongst the clan, it was slow going, still frightened, but she was growing all the same. Pride across a toothy maw as a low rumble of a purr rolled in their throat, looking to Mulberryburst with a grin. Peony was too sweet a kit to ever cause as much trouble as they two did, but whatever she grew into, they would be proud to see her thrive all the same. Maplemouse never expected to be any good with kits, let alone having been any use in seeing a tiny scrap of fur grow old enough to be an apprentice, but something warm glimmered in their chest all the same. Peony, as always, has a little glimmer of light in their day.

Chrysalisgaze. A smile widened at the name; it wasn't close to the molly, but she was mother to another three of the new apprentices, and she was a brave yet kind-hearted warrior. Maplemouse trusted all their clanmates, but there was a reassurance in their heart of a gentle-pawed cat taking its little sprout beneath her wing. Maybe it would ask if Chrysalis would like to take their apprentices out to train someday, as they were not to ignore their own apprentice.

Little Yolkpaw, a bright-eyed, mischievous little thing. He got into all sorts of playful trouble and seemed to be a promising little thing. The mink approached the small gold point as Hawkstar finished speaking, pressing a nose to the top of his head with a smile. "Now you be sure to stay caught up, Yolkpaw, I see promise in you, and I will not train you lightly, my fledgling." It sat at their apprentice's side, looking towards the towering deputy as she announced the patrols. It'd be Yolkpaw's first outing, so it hoped for something with a small challenge to ease the youngster into training.

Windclan! Maplemouse sighed in some relief. They were a rather passive lot, a good introduction to checking borders, even better time to teach Yolkpaw situational awareness. They could take the youngster to Riverclan borders another day, but it was one paw in front of another for now; he had six moons to learn everything, and they could teach at Yolkpaw's pace. They let their shoulders relax some. Maybe they could ask Chrysalisgaze and Mulberryburst to come along, take their apprentices out with a comfortable group first- Stars, helping raise Peony, really had made them go soft. But maybe it wasn't such a bad thing.

𓆦 𖢥 𓆨 𓆣 𐀔 Chrysalisgaze 𐀔 𓆣 𓆨 𖢥 𓆦

Chrysalisgaze sat behind her children with pride in her eyes, curling her tail around Starlingtrail. They both knew what was to come and their kits sat in front of them, restless and nervous both. She had helped groom them beforehand, though not even she could tame Berry's wild fur. All three of her children, now ready to leave their nest.

Chrysalisgaze knew she would never be ready, but she trusted in Hawkstar's judgement in giving them the perfect mentors - even if it couldn't be her nor Swarmswirl. She listened to Hawkstar announce all the new changes of this moon. First it was time for the new warriors and the tall scout cheered at Stoneroot's and Tiggerbounce's new names - the fresh warriors would surely be a great adition to SkyClan's ranks.

As the cheering died down, Chrysalisgaze straightened her posture as all eyes turned on her sweet children - Berrypaw, Ducklingpaw and Dovepaw. She couldn't be more proud and rejoiced even more at the choice of mentors for them - Teaselfeather for her tall son, Tawnybeam for her darling son and Buttercupbriar for her daughter. Tears of pride welled in her eyes and she pressed her body against Starlingtrail's, her heart filled with joy.

But soon, she found herself on her paws as well, as her own name got called to be Peonypaw's mentor. She smiled reassuringly at the young apprentice, her very own, as she approached them. "Hello, Peonypaw." she greeted them warmly as she pressed her nose gently against the other's forehead. "I'm sure we'll get along great." Her voice was soft, so as to not scare the anxious child, her eyes kind.

She had barely closed one chapter of her life and was thrown into another one straight away - but Chrysalisgaze wasn't complaining, she welcome this new change with an open mind,, excited to see what she will teach Peonypaw and what the apprentice will teach her in turn.

BERRYPAW

Berrykit sat with focused gaze as his name was called and he was named anew - Berrypaw. He knew it was coming, yet hearing the name breathed out of the king's mouth still sent chills down his coat. So this was it - Berrypaw was no longer a kitten, but an apprentice of the clan, ready to learn to be a warrior.

He waited with baited breath to see who he was assigned to, which warrior would be his mentor. Teaselfeather. The deputy's own child, now a mentor of their own. Berrypaw's heart leapt in excitement - getting Teaselfeather as his mentor meant he would learn only the best! Tealefeather's own teachings combined with the wisdom of the deputy herself would certainly ensure his own success!

He stood and approached his new mentor, excited, his tail raised high. This was the best day of his life!

Let me die, let me drown, lay my bones in the ground
I will still come around when the time for sleep is through
Over hill, over dale, through the valley and vale
Do not weep, do not wail, I am coming home to you

.

Teaselfeather stood quietly among the clan, ears pricked as Hawkstar called the meeting in her own, unmistakable way. A small, fond smile tugged at their maw as their gaze drifted briefly to their mother behind the leader, no doubt lending warmth to the sharp-edged king. Warriors would be named. Kits would receive mentors. Change hung in the air like morning mist. They couldn't deny their curiosity over where everyone would land.

Their mismatched hues flicked toward Stonepaw, no, Stoneroot as she was named a warrior, a soft mrrp of delight slipping from them before they could stop it. Pride shone openly in their eyes. And then there was sweet Tigger... Tiggerbounce. Such a fitting name. Teaselfeather found themself cheering alongside the others, eyes bright as they celebrated the new warriors. When Hawkstar's attention turned to the kits, Teaselfeather refocused, posture straightening as they listened with a gentle smile. Then--

They blinked. Slowly. Almost owlishly. Had they... Heard that correctly? Had Hawkstar seen them? For a heartbeat, they simply sat there, stunned. They had always believed their presence was easy to forget, that if they were remembered at all, it was only because they were Flowercloud's child. Yet now... An apprentice? They glanced toward their mother, searching for her eyes, then back to Hawkstar as realization finally settled. They needed to move. To do something.

With a small, startled breath, Teaselfeather stepped forward just as Berrypaw padded toward them, excitement radiating from the young cat. A touch flustered, Teaselfeather dipped their head and leaned down, gently touching noses with the apprentice. " Berrypaw. " they meowed softly, warmth steadying their voice. " I will teach you everything that was taught to me. "

They were nudged out of the nursery this day, out of the safety of their nest and into the wilderness of the camp. Little did she know, she would be allowed out into much more. Her eyes glance up to where Hawkstar's perched, her small body nestled between Mulberryburst and Maplemouse. Her family. While she hadn't been born into it, rather found alone and scared and accepted in with open paws, she still had a love for them both. Peonykit had also been very attached. Mutters in the nursery of apprenticeship were loud. It had happened to those older than her, a part of clan life they had been waiting for. Maybe she was too. They weren't so sure.

The others around her chant the names of new warriors, and then Hawkstar calls for her denmates, then her name. It was awkward, to be called out in front of the rest. This was normal for them, however. To be seen and appreciated by others. Interesting and unique. Peony looks to her new mentor with hesitation, a concerned and worried look plastering her face before she smiles. A familiar face is what she saw. Apprenticed to their denmate's other mother - it was comforting to know. Their eyes closed as a nose was pressed upon their forehead, opening them to a kind face and words. "I'll do my best..." Peonypaw whispers. A promise to Chrysalisgaze, a promise to their late mother, and a promise to the clan that accepted her. There would be no disappointing anyone from here on.
