The Forgotten Few, a Thunderclan... "Family"

This story... Does not begin with love. It begins with indifference, cold and unfeeling. Where a family reasonably should be there is just a sense of emptiness. The sire and dam of this family are not good folk, they have what could arguably be seen as purely utilitarian views, seeing the need for perfection in all ways inclusive of their children...

Once, long ago, during the days of the Fourtrees Colony, they had a son, Snowcap. They put all manner unrealistic and emotionally damaging pressure on him, to make him the 'perfect cat' in every way. Each demand of theirs, every word and demand laced with fake honeyed tones... It was toxic to him. All he wanted was to be accepted for who he was, but they would never do that for him. At the age of six moons, Snowcap vanished, having absconded from home never to be seen again. His absence was not mourned, and he was forever deemed a failure, never spoken of again.

Several moons after the disappearance of Snowcap, another litter was born, a pair of two, two that yielded what was believed to be 'better results'. Favoritism came into play, one was seen as more 'valuable' or 'remarkable' and the other was relegated to 'second best' or 'just barely good enough'. Even with the focus split between two kits, even with experience, or even the advice of others, the ways of the sire and dam of this family did not change.

The upheaval and eventual shattering of the Fourtrees Colony lead the sire and dam to siding with what would ultimately become Thunderclan which they deemed safer, and a 'better' place to raise their progeny. It is only recently that they had yet another litter, a group of three in order to push their chances at raising the perfect cat. One of the newer kittens was all but totally forgotten, another fortunate enough to go under the radar just enough to avoid the worst of it, and another that took matters into their own paws.

The focus of the sire and dam was split further, their tactics more obvious, their disregard more blatant and their facade of kindness fraying at the seams. They could not handle the pressure. Suffice it to say, this quickly spiraled out of control. Their subliminally caustic and cruel ways caught up to them in a scenario they could not handle... So, they left. In the cold dead of night, they abandoned this version of their family, leaving it all to Thunderclan, perhaps to continue their twisted quest elsewhere.

Sadly, this leaves five young cats completely without parentage, five young cats who are all emotionally damaged in their own way whether they would admit it or not, five young cats forgotten by the ones that should have remembered them always, the ones that should have made them all a family...

Rules & Requirements Please verify names are not taken on the PREFIX CLAIM prior to committing to an app! You should reserve the name you pick just in case until cats are chosen! General Guidelines There are six siblings total, two of which are penned by myself! This means there are 4 open slots! Also, feel free to throw down an app for more than one if you want. Just know that only one of them can be chosen! The parents were not loving, at bare minimum they only cared that they were alive and not sick. How your character reacts to their parents disappearing is up to you! Do they panic? Do they find relief? Or do they have mixed feelings? This is intended to be a story about overcoming hardship, starting from the very bottom emotionally and forging ones own meaning. The idea is that since the group hardly knows what a good family is, they will each want to find one in their own way. However close they are to each other, for a time it is intended that they practically ghost each other entirely before returning to each other in adulthood as changed cats and fix what was once broken by using what they have learned. So long as you've got the three basics down (Name, appearance, personality), your app will be considered! As far as activity goes, all I will ask is of you is to be as communicative as possible and try to remain on the census/keep your chosen name claimed and I'd prefer that the characters live decently into adulthood given the base plot idea-- but If you need a break or need to drop the character, just lemme know and we can figure out a plot for their absence if at all possible! Suggestions for the vibes For the four available slots, I would like to leave things up to interpretation, but I'll kickstart some ideas! Slot 1, The Favored - Considered the 'golden child', and the one that the parents focused most attention on. Did this cause them to gain an ego, or did they notice things were wrong from the start? Slot 2, The Forgiving - Seen as 'second best', merely as a formality, more often scolded. Did this cause them to become stoic and emotionless, or did they truly want to impress? Slot 3, The Fortunate - Luck granted this one a chance to avoid most of the torment that was focused on their siblings. Did this allow them to become observant and know right from wrong, or did they take their luck for granted and not do anything about it? Slot 4, The Fearless - A wildcard that could not be tamed, showing little hesitance yet also too much fierceness to be tempered quickly enough even with near constant attention. ✧Frecklekit is a quiet, thoughtful soul shaped by silence more than words. His early moons have taught him to watch rather than act, to listen rather than speak. Though still young, there's a deep awareness in his gaze, the kind that comes from seeing too much too soon. He's guarded, keeping his emotions close, not out of coldness but out of uncertainty. Love and affection are things he observes in others but doesn't quite know how to return. When someone reaches out to him, he hesitates, not because he doesn't want warmth, but because he's afraid he won't know what to do with it. Or whether he is deserving of it.

Frecklekit is deeply observant, often picking up on the smallest details, a shift in tone, a flick of an ear, an unspoken emotion. This makes him perceptive and wise beyond his moons, but also easily burdened by what he notices. He sees the tension others miss and carries it quietly, like a secret weight. His morality is strong, but unsteady. He knows what his parents did was wrong, the cruelty, the coldness, the expectations that crushed instead of nurtured. Yet he's not sure how to move forward from that understanding. He wants to be good, to be the kind of cat who protects others from the pain he's known, but he's uncertain what that truly means.

To him, strength is a puzzle he's still trying to solve. Should he be unyielding like stone? Or open-hearted like those who seem so effortlessly kind? He admires courage and compassion, yet fears that both might lead to vulnerability, something he's not yet ready to face. Frecklekit can sometimes seem distant or withdrawn, especially among his remaining kin. He loves them, in his own quiet way, but doesn't know how to express it. His emotions run deep beneath the surface, like roots under frozen ground, waiting for the right season to thaw.

Despite his inner turmoil, there's a gentleness in him, a spark of something kind and steady. When others are hurting, he feels it too, even if he doesn't know how to say so. His empathy, though unspoken, guides him more than he realizes.

There's a subtle war inside him: the instinct to reach out, and the learned response to pull away.

✧ Frecklekit was born in ThunderClan to parents who believed perfection mattered more than love. Their cruelty and cold expectations had already driven away their firstborn, Snowcap, moons before. When Frecklekit and his littermates were born, that same harshness returned but fate spared him from the worst of it. Overshadowed by his siblings and largely ignored, he learned to watch in silence, growing keenly aware of right and wrong through what he witnessed. When his parents finally abandoned the family, Frecklekit was left behind with his siblings, all of them broken in different ways. Though he avoided their parents' direct wrath, the absence of love left its own mark. Now, he keeps to himself, distant yet observant, trying to understand what it means to be strong and good in a world that has shown him neither.

✧ A small long furred molly with an intricate pelt, from the moment she could cognitively identify beauty, she was fully committed to priding herself in her appearance. She is a mixture of both her parents perfectly, a cinnamon tortie with a soft and light pelt --- dappled with flecks of chocolate and a small amount of white across her muzzle, chest, and paws. She is slim and delicate, but appears a bit larger than her actual mass due to her voluminous fur. Her eyes are a sharp copper, often prying and looking for the weakness of others --- hoping to tear them down a peg so she can come out on top.

✧ Vanity was bred into Gracepaw. From the time she was a kit, it was clear she was the favoured one. At first, to a young mind, it's confusing to see your parents praise you but shut down your littermate for doing almost the exact same things. However, with age, she came to enjoy it, even building an ego from how much her parents built her up. She was raised watching her parents build her a ladder to greatness while hammering her littermate down, which is how she learned to treat others that do not meet her own personal standards of what is "greatness". Truthfully, Gracepaw has never worked or tried hard to achieve anything in her life and was instead built up on false platitudes by her parents. She actually has very little skill in being an apprentice or future warrior, but according to her parents, she has always been naturally gifted, no matter what others say.

✧ Gracepaw has always been an attractive molly, and she's perfectly aware of this fact. She knows exactly how to use it to her advantage, using it to bend both toms and mollies to her will whenever she needs. She has an eye on the clan, almost prying, and is quite observant, knowing almost all the clan gossip without really trying, not to mention that she's outspoken and quite approachable, causing others to just hang over their juicy tidbits without a second thought. Funnily enough, she doesn't let most of these things get to her head and often comes across as aloof. She's rather rational and impartial for most of the gossip she hears... she honestly just likes holding it over the heads of others.

✧ Confident to a fault, with the charm and wit to back it up, Gracepaw is quite a force to be reckoned with at her best --- and a nightmare at her worst. She's a stereotypical mean girl and almost prides herself on hurting the feelings of others, with a special cruelty towards her littermate. She lives for gossip, but if she ever hears gossip about herself she certainly isn't afraid to confront the person who said it about her and give them a piece of her mind. She likes being in power, and she likes using her confidence to exploit others, using their insecurities to bend them to her will. Though, in terms of actual relationships and friends... she does seem a tad too focused on appearance. She can go from zero to one hundred quite quickly, especially if she hears something negative about herself, like a literal storm brewing.

✧ Being the favourite, she has often followed how her parents treated her siblings and mimicked them. She tends to have shaky relationships with her younger siblings at best and has always relied on her parents a bit too closely. Once they vanish, Gracepaw gets meaner. Angrier. No one is around to praise her anymore, and she's beginning to realize that the only people whose world revolved entirely around her was her parents. She does have a close inner circle of those she deems worthy, mostly others who have a bit of a meanness to them as well.

✧ Born in the Colony to (parent name) and (parent name) following the disappearance of their eldest son, Snowcap. They did not mourn his disappearance, instead moving on quickly, needing to fix their mistakes --- to try again and make something better. Gracekit and her littermate (insert name) are born, a fresh start and a way to correct their mistakes. They do not speak of the mistake that was Snowcap, and instead focus on these two fresh kittens that they can mould. Even from kithood, it is clear that Gracekit is favoured. Even her name suggests favouritism, being chosen by her mother to signify what she desired from her daughter in an almost vain and materialistic way.

When her and her littermate are still very young, the colony splinters, and her parents elect to side with what becomes Thunderclan. She is too young to truly remember the colony separating. As her and her littermate get older, it becomes clear to both her, her sibling, and outsiders that she is the favoured kit. Others try to offer advice, but it falls on deaf ears, and soon enough Gracekit has fully understood that in her parent's eyes, she can do no wrong. She starts joining in on the belittling of her littermate, knowing her parents will not stop her, knowing that she is better than them because her parents said so. While her sibling had a more harsh upbringing, she always seemed to escape it, and she always seemed to be praised just for existing.

She is apprenticed and due to her upbringing, she feels no need to try particularly hard. After all, she is naturally gifted. It is frustrating to her mentor, but all his complaints fall on deaf ears. Even when Gracepaw does put effort in, she grows frustrated when it isn't immediately perfect. A small touch of perfectionism and frustration in her when things don't fully go her way. At seven moons, her parents have another litter, three younger siblings. Though it is still abundantly clear that she is the favourite, the favoured. The one they always seem to spill the most of their love on.

When her parents disappear, Gracepaw is shaken up. She grows angrier, bitter, snappy. She realizes with a sudden urgency that the only time someone's world revolved around her was her parents... and now they're gone. She isn't sure how to be anything without praise, and almost shuts down entirely. She misses her parents dearly, and thinks about them often.

Victorykit is best known for her competitiveness. She always strives to be the very best, wanting to live up to her name and make her parents proud. This pushes her to work extremely hard and makes her very reliable, but can also be alienating to her peers. While she is very outgoing and enjoys making friends, she often can look down on others and can be very unkind.

However, she is often impulsive and reckless. She has very little control over her emotions and can act rashly, sometimes putting her in danger or creating interpersonal conflict. She is easily moved to violence. Though she won't be able to name it until she is older, there is deep rage in her.

Unfortunately, she is also known for being a liar. Especially with her parents and siblings, she will often twist the truth to paint herself in a good light. She struggles to take accountability for her actions. Deep down she is deeply insecure, and fears others will see that she is not, in fact, perfect.

— Shiningkit is a short-haired chocolate colorpoint tortoiseshell cat with low white and teal eyes. She keeps her coat as pristine as possible, and her posture just as tall. As her parents began to give her less attention that instead went to The Favored, she would constantly try to upkeep appearances in different and more unorthodox ways, desperate for the comments she craves. As she grows from warriorhood, she will learn that appearances may not be so important after all, though she will continue smaller habits for her own comfort.​

— Just about all of Shiningkit's personality roots from her family -- from the way she was expected to be perfect in every way, to the way the rug was pulled from under her, to subsequently being abandoned by her parents. On the surface, she can be rather overbearing, constantly searching for any sort of way to get attention. She will try to appease her siblings first, and when that doesn't work, with increasing desperation, she will go to anyone who will listen. She strives to feel self-important, presenting as arrogant in an effort to hide her insecurities. This will often get her into trouble, ranging from irritating others to getting into danger trying to impress someone. Her ambitions turn to either complete dismissal or external rage when people don't play along.​
