Meeting 'Til the Sun Rises, I'll Sing a Song of Wind ✪ 11/20 meeting

✪ Align my Heart, my Body, my Mind

indent"Every cat old enough to gather their own prey, gather under the Tallrock for a clan meeting!"

indentThough Dustystar sits calmly, the twitch of her tail betrays the restless energy about her. This meeting is looking to be a long one, and she'd like to get started soon. "We've survived another moon, despite it all. Prey and herbs may not run as freely as they did before, but the will and bravery of Windclan remains as strong as ever. In fact- there's quite a few cats I would like to give special praise."

indent"Harvest, Slick. You saw cats in need, and, without hesitation, or expecting a reward, both of you leapt into action." Having strange cats in the mix during the flood certainly added to the confusion, but if it hadn't been for their help, Windclan would surely have been in much more dire straits. "The two of you have offered to continue lending your efforts to our clan, and I'm more than grateful to accept. In honor of your deeds, it's only right that you receive names beffiting of your actions. I hope the names 'Harvestseeker' and 'Zephyrdrift' will treat you well."

indent"Plauge." Dustystar calls. "You've been living with us for quite some time now. Several moons ago, you came to us searching for shelter, for you and your kits." At first, she'd been nervous about allowing the shady molly to join. Windclan had just recently suffered a terrible loss, and were wary of the newcomer. Dustystar's bid to trust the queen, though, seems to have paid off. "When the flood came, you acted swiftly, making sure all the kits were alive and safe. Without your actions, we would surely have lost some of our most precious clanmates. When Plauge approached her about receiving a warrior name, Dustystar was suprised. Partially, that Plauge had asked at all, but partly out of shock that Dustystar still hadn't taken the initiative to do it herself. "I'd like to do now what I should have done long ago, and name you a full warrior of our clan. I hope that, as 'Ivorystorm', you continue to serve new home." Whatever happened to Ivorystorm before was in the past, now. Dustystar is excited to see what lies in her future.

indent"Cometpaw, Eclipsepaw." Green eyes search for black and orange fur in the crowd. "The two of you shine brightly. Cometpaw, you're quick to action, and have a kind heart. You'll be named 'Comettail', for the tail that acts as a guiding light for others among the tall grass." Nodding gently, Dustystar turns to the other brother. "Eclipsepaw. Your mind and spirit are too strong to be contained. I give you the name 'Eclipseshade'. Like a shadow, you slip through the claws of all that wish to see you constrained." The two young toms have matured so much, since they left the barn. Dustystar couldn't be more proud.

indent"Peafowlpaw." Inhaling sharoly through her nose, Dustystar meets the apprentices eyes. "Due to... certian conditions, you've had to finish your apprenticeship without a dedicated mentor." It's all she'll say on the matter. The less she mentions Maremane now, the better. This is Peafowlpaw's special moment, after all. Dustystar won't see it spoiled. "I still remember the say you came to the barn. Since that day, you've always had a resilience about you. Like a Peacock leading his flock, you uplift the cats around you, and make them strive to be better. I grant you the name "Peafowlplume."

indent"Chickpaw." Dustystar nearly purrs the name. "With bright and sunny fur like yours, It's strange that you've dedicated yourself to a life in the tunnels. Strange or not, you've proven yourself commited to a life among the roots beneath the prairie. For your dedication, I name you Chickweed." Dustystar smiles. Secretly, there's a second meanong behind the name. 'Even as a grown cat, he still can't keep the weeds from getting caught in his fur.'

indent"Pebblepaw." Dustystar's smile fades a bit, as she regaurds her next apprentice. "The two of us have known eachother for quite some time. Despite myself, I can't help but remember you as the same sweet cat you were back then." She takes a deep breath."You've been away from us for quite some time. I don't know quite where you've been, or what you've done, but I know the cat standing in front of me today still has a part of the bright young cat I knew within him somewhere. I give you the name 'Pebblestep', so you never forget all of the places your paws have taken you, and all of the places you're yet to go."

indent"This is all I have to announce today. Thank you for listening." With that, Dustystar bows her head and descends from atop the Tallrock.

Dustystar - 27 moons - Windclan Leader

At the sound of Dustystar's call, Yewkit padded out of the nursery with mother, ready to listen to this moon's news. Hopefully all good ones - stars knew the clan needed that.

Yewkit pricked her ears as the leader spoke of survival and strength. Despite her own errors, it seemed most everyone made it out okay from the floods, though everyone was a bit shaken and the dens needed repairing. Through it all, WindClan has perservered.

The kitten raised her head and craned her neck to peer at the new members of the clan, Harvestseeker and Zephyrdrift. Though she did not join the chanting of their new names, she nodded to herself nonetheless. And just as quickly, her mood darkened, as she thought of another who was not amongst them today - the rain soaked warrior she had spoken to in their temporary camp, the one who left without saying as much as a goodbye. Why hadn't he decided to join WindClan as well? Why had he left her?

Yewkit didn't have time to dwell on these thoughts, because Dustystar called out the next name - Plague's own. Yewkit looked up at mother, eyes wide. What was Dustystar going to say? Yewkit feared for their place in the clan - she thought they were good, but maybe her mistake during the flooding had caused Dustystar to reconsider their place in the clan? Were they about to be thrown out?

I hope that, as 'Ivorystorm', you continue to serve your new home.

Yewkit's heart stilled then. Mother was receiving a new name, one more fitting of her than 'Plague'. The kitten listened not to the rest of the announcements, her eyes and ears focused only on Ivorystorm before her. She breather out quietly and whispered words meant only for mother to hear. "Ivorystorm..." she repeated. "It suits you. It's a lot more you."

Pebblepaw sat a little apart from the others, sharp turquoise eyes tracking Dustystar as she climbed the Tallrock. His nicked ear twitched, a faint frown tugging at his expression. The first two cats she called were names he barely recognized, Harvest and Slick and names he would no longer need to remember. Harvestseeker and Zephyrdrift now. The clan's names for them. He dipped his head respectfully, a quiet snort escaping before he lifted his gaze again. Next came Plague. She had lived among WindClan long enough, and now she, too, was being reshaped into something clan-born. Ivorystorm. Pebblepaw blinked at the transformation. It would take time to adjust. But he would. His eyes drifted to Cometpaw and Eclipsepaw. He narrowed his gaze for a heartbeat before forcing it downward. Comettail and Eclipseshade... Warriors now. Just like Gorsehowl, his sister. And Peafowlpaw, now Peafowlplume. A fitting name, he thought distantly.

Where was Maremane? Would the other ever return the way Pebblepaw had? Or would they remain another name on the long, silent list of WindClan's losses? Like Gladebloom... A small, humorless breath left him. Chickpaw received the name Chickweed, and the corner of his mouth twitched upward for the briefest moment before it faded away. Then Dustystar spoke his name. Something inside his chest lurched painfully, as though something long-dead had tried to take a breath.

Pebblepaw slowly lifted his head, his eyes locking with Dustystar's as she spoke of the cat he once had been. The bright, lively kit he wasn't sure still existed. The one he'd buried beneath fear, grief, and failure. But Dustystar said she still saw him. Somewhere. Somehow. Pebblestep. The world seemed to tilt. She... Had named him a warrior? She had chosen to honor him rather than punish him? She had looked at him... At all his mistakes, all his losses... And still given him a place among WindClan's warriors? She... Believed in him? His mouth opened, but no words came. Nothing came. His mind stuttered, trying and failing to process what he had just heard. The world was blurry, distant, unreal. He was a warrior. He was no longer Pebblepaw. He was Pebblestep. So why did his heart feel so unbearably heavy?

He swallowed, but his throat was too tight for it to pass easily. His heart hammered painfully against his ribs, loud enough he swore the cats beside him could hear it. Their voices blurred into a dull hum, like rushing water. His vision wavered. Why? The question clawed its way through him, sharp enough to hurt. Why would Dustystar grant him this? After everything? After leaving? After failing? He wasn't ready. He wasn't deserving. He wasn't-- A soft brush of fur startled him. Someone... Maybe Meadowpaw, maybe Gorsehowl, maybe no one at all and simply his imagination, had pressed close for a heartbeat in shared celebration. Pebblestep stiffened, breath hitching, and the warmth disappeared again into the sea of clanmates.

He couldn't stay here. Not like this. Not with their voices praising a name he didn't feel belonged to him. Slowly, quietly, Pebblestep backed away from the crowd. No one noticed. or if they did, they let him go. His paws carried him to the shadowed edge of camp, to the place where the broken brambles still lay from the flood. Only then did he exhale, shuddering. His legs trembled beneath him. Pebblestep. He whispered the name under his breath, as if testing it, as if it were something fragile that might break if spoken too loudly. Pebblestep. It didn't feel like him. Not yet. Maybe not ever. He squeezed his eyes shut, pressing his forehead into his paws.

" Why did you believe in me...? " he murmured to no one. " Dustystar... Why? " The cheers continued behind him, muffled by distance, carrying warrior names proudly into the open sky. But Pebblestep sat alone, unsure whether that sky had room for him, or if he had already fallen too far to reach it.

Every cat old enough to gather their own prey, gather under the Tallrock for a clan meeting! Well, theres her cue- Nutmeg rises from whatever she had been doing previously, approaching the crowd of gathering cats and tipping her chin up to look at Dustystar. It's the usual: renamings, warriors names... And theres one that sticks out to her (or, well, two, actually), causing her to perk upwards. Was it already time? Stars, those moons went by fast.

"PEAFOWLPLUME, PEAFOWLPLUME!" she calls for her baby brother, trying to make her own voice the loudest. Though... She guesses he isn't so baby now, a grown cat, but once upon a time he had been a baby. He had been a little kitten that had hardly reached the middle of her legs, and now look at him! He's a fully grown cat, so, so different from the kitten she had taken under her wing, but her pride and love for him remains all the same. She calls the other names out, too, in a chant, albeit... a little bit selfishly, quieter than she had cheered for her brother. And then she cheers for Pebblestep, too, and when Dustystar disbands the meeting, she turns to find him.

"Pebblestep." she moves towards the newly named warrior, her apprentice; hiding in the shadows in the outskirts. Or, not really an apprentice anymore. Like Peafowlpaw, he had earned his warrior name. Her whiskers twitch, and though awkwardly, she bends her neck downwards. Being vulnerable with those outside of her family never came easy, but he had been around long enough, she had grieved his disappearance as she would for her own. "I'm proud of you. You'll be a fine warrior." he looks a bit dejected- she hopes her words could be of any solace.

Pebblestep flinched when his new name rang through the air again, called with warmth he didn't know how to accept. His head snapped toward Nutmegpurr, a jolt of panic rushing beneath his ribs. Had he not disappointed her? As an apprentice, he had tried, truly, desperately tried... But so often his paws had carried him away. Away to chase ghosts. To search for Alder in every shadow, in every whisper of wind. To cling to a hope everyone else had long since buried.

He had been a poor student. A burden. A foolish child who couldn't accept the truth. He didn't understand why Dustystar had spoken his name among the worthy. Why he stood here now, called a warrior. He didn't deserve it. And yet... Nutmegpurr looked at him like she was proud of him. His throat closed. Tears welled, hot and unbidden, sliding down before he could blink them away. Pebblestep dropped his gaze to the earth, shoulders curling inward as if he could make himself smaller, make himself invisible.

" I... I do not feel like a good warrior. " he whispered, voice barely holding together. " Worthy of a Clan-given name. I failed. I failed you all. " His breath trembled. The crushed remnants of hope tasted bitter on his tongue. " I kept searching for the dead... " he went on, each word softer. " I didn't want to believe it. But we all die... Don't we? No matter how hard we try. " He shook his head, ears flattening tight.

" I'm sorry... " Pebblestep murmured, voice breaking as he stared at his own shaking paws. " ... I'm sorry you had to have me. " All around, there was chatter, there was talk, there was congratulations to the warriors made... But all he could hear was the hollow echo of his apology...

POPPYKIT | WINDCLAN
"TELL ME I'M AN ANGEL, TAKE THIS TO MY GRAVE"

.

A "Clan meeting"! How peculiar!
Poppykit emerges from the den alongside Yewkit as Plague leads her children out into camp. He supposes he qualifies as one of her children, now, though he doesn't call her 'Mother' like Yewkit does. It feels wrong, to call another cat by such a title when his real Momma is undoubtedly still out there... whether she's waiting for his return or not. He better not think about it right now, he doesn't wanna cry in front of everybody.
Poppykit is vaguely familiar with the idea of assigning new names to cats in WindClan - he, after all, had been renamed by Plague herself, but it's come to his attention that it's often Dustystar who is in charge of renaming the older cats. Such is the case for Harvestseeker and Zephyrdrift, and Poppykit cheers along with the other cats excitedly. Perhaps he doesn't understand the reason why everyone has to cheer the new names, but he enjoys the excuse to yell really loud!!

Plague is the next to be called upon, and Poppykit looks up at her with curiosity. Ivorystorm... it's certainly a fitting name for the cat that sits before him. A name that demands attention, matching the energy that she exudes... it's almost intimidating at times.
"Iv'rystorm, Iv'rystorm!!" he parades around her in a circle, a slight bounce in his step. "That's such a cool name!! I'm so jealous!! Do you think Dustystar will pick a name that cool for me someday? I like the sound of 'Poppystorm'. Do you like the sound of it, Yewkit?" Yapping away as always, Poppykit seems oblivious to the fact that the meeting is still going on, rocking back and forth on his little paws as he mindlessly rambles.

Like mother, like daughter

Poppykit's energy was still unfamiliar to Yewkit - the kitten seemed to have a lot of it and never running out, always a smile on his face - but she did not mind. While not by related by blood, she had decided Poppykit was her younger brother and she had swore to protect him no matter what. Just like she knew she would protect anyone else in her family.

"I think..." she looked at her brother, trying to figure out what she could answer. Poppystorm was not a bad name, but... Storm was something Poppykit had probably never experienced in its full might. Unlike her, when the camp flooded and she stood submerged in the water. It was a terrifying thing, to be at the mercy of a storm. "I think it's a strong and powerful name." Yewkit had decided. There was no need to worry him about her own turmoil.

Yewkit's ears twitched as Dustystar announced the final name change Pebblestep. She barely knew the tom, has barely seen him. She didn't even remember him from the reunited temporary camp, though she barely remembered anyone... She watched him get up quietly and leave, but did not give it a second thought. He was not her concern.

In all her thinking, Yewkit had not realised the contradiction in her own thoughts. Ivorystorm was a name that suited mother, represented her, so why was she so hesitant to approve of storm when it came to Poppykit?

Another clan meeting, so shortly after Windclan had nearly been washed away and torn apart. Even in the face of so much hardship, Windclan was still stronger than perhaps anyone had really expected. Maybe it had something to do with how everything had started? At least this was how Cometpaw was thinking about things. Maybe he had been lucky. He had learned a lot from many other cats. From his parents Astro and Nebula, to his own siblings Eclipse and Twinkle, the time in the barn with Hollowmumble, Merrystalk, Chickenscratch, Owlbear and many more- from Hoot and the old cat's sacrifice, from Honeyflower's guidance too. Cometpaw was different from who he was, perhaps in the best way possible so far. He had made the silent promise to keep going, running forward, and he intended to keep to it.

It seemed that such growth and kindness would be rewarded soon as he heard Dustystar ask that Cometpaw and his brother Eclipsepaw step forward together. Looking to Eclipsepaw, Cometpaw waited for him to walk alongside. What was to be bestowed upon them, would be Warrior names. At first he was bewildered. Part of him felt as though he hadn't learned enough, but another part of him felt differently- that part of him wanted to keep moving forward.

Comettail stood proud and puffed out his chest excitedly, giving a smile to those who saw or otherwise chose to look. He would be exactly what Dustystar described and more, another promise made. Hearing his brother be granted his name, Comettail near enough bounced around on the spot with intent to run circles around his brother. "Eclipseshade! Hah, dude that's so badass! That's my brother, the guy with the most free spirit I've ever known!"
