WHEN WE WALKED IN FIELDS OF GOLD ━━━━━━━━━━
He didn't know why he had ended up stuck here picking up plants, sure he was named after one but that didn't mean he wanted to spend all his day plucking them up out this gosh darn field when he could be learning more interesting and cool things from Goldenroar about fighting and borders and-and-Dandelionpaw paused in his disgruntled digging, his head lifting up as a shift in the wind alerted him to something that made his blood run cold. Where was Gladebloom? One second the pretty red tabby was daintily picking through the scraps of dandelions he had dug up to inspect and the next thing he knew she was gone. He had been so engrossed in his digging through the tall grass he hadn't even noticed she'd stopped speaking and apparently neither had anyone else. At some point she must have wandered from near him, but when he looked around no sight of crimson fur sprang to his visions like poppy in a field. The apprentice's tail flicked in unease, head tilting as he looked around slowly.

"...S-Sassafraschill!" He called out to the nearest warrior on the patrol, stumbling upright and bolting toward the blue tom with both green and golden eyes wide, "Did-did Gladebloom pass you? She was here a second ago and now...I..." The chocolate limbed tom trailed off, the wheat stem between his teeth trembling and he clenched his jaw around it tightly. They weren't THAT close to the gorge, surely she hadn't...she hadn't fallen in? They would've heard a scream, but then where else had she gone? It was almost as if their medicine cat had simply disappeared.

Ooc- Calling out to @sassafraschill | Obligatory mentor tag - @GOLDENROAR & medicine cat apprentice tag - @Meadowpaw

Nutmeg is used to being out on patrols and has no problem with helping Gladebloom and her little sister with such, but it gets to a point where eventually everything kind of starts to blend together when your brain isn't exactly in it… Any other time, she swears she could do it, but shes… tired. Not enough sleep the previous few nights has her feeling like a zombie as she trucks out with the rest of them.

Shes nearby, pawing at a mound of weeds to make sure they weren't herbs when she hears Dandelionpaws alarmed voice, ears swiveling forwards in her own alarm as she rises to her paws, quickly making her way over to the mentor and apprentice pair just incase there was danger. Dandelionpaw asks if Gladebloom had passed Sassafraschill, and now that she thinks of it, she hadn't exactly seen Gladebloom either.

… Weird.

"Before we start panicking, lets retrace her steps. She couldn't've gotten far." Nutmegs eyes slightly narrow, but with the way the wind blows this close to the gorge, shes not sure she could smell much. "Where was the last time you saw her, Dandelion?"

Meadowpaw combed through the brittle grass, humming softly to soothe her frayed nerves. She hadn't spent much time with Sassy since the fight with Merrystalk. Both toms were difficult to talk to, but for varying reasons. There wasn't much she could do about it when she couldn't even muster the heart to fix things with just Merrystalk. Who on all accounts, was the more approachable of the two.

But she wanted to. She really did. But the distance between them felt too wide to cross, wider than the gorge itself.

Eventually, had no choice but to focus on their work Owlbear's coughing fit the other day pointed out concerning gaps in their herb storage. Herbs to help with breathing, specifically. If they had the right herbs in storage, Owlbear or anyone else to suffer like that. The next time that happened, Meadowpaw wanted to be prepared.

Dandelionpaw's frantic voice tugged her from her thoughts. Something about Gladebloom? "Mmm?" Her head lifted with a trill. The herbs clutched delicately in her jaws, swaying as she looked around.

Gladebloom had been right there a moment ago. Meadowpaw set the herbs down, worry tightening in her chest. What happened to Dustystar was still fresh on her mind. What if that cat was still out there, lurking in their territory? She didn't want to find her mentor lying somewhere... with... Please no.

Once again, it's her sister who keeps her mind steady. Meggie is right. They shouldn't jump to the worst possible conclusions. "S-she wouldn't go back without telling us, would she?" Meadowpaw hastily tucks the herbs into her pelt "Shouldn't someone run to camp and check?" Retracing their steps was a good plan. Gladebloom probably just wandered off and got lost but then again, was she really the type to do that? In the time they spent together, she seemed to know the prairie really well...

——————— Does the wind feel a gladness at the work that it's done?

It had decided to join the little patrol; the ongoings of the other clans had been too frightfully busy, and they decided to take it far easier by sticking to camp and the steadily growing tunnels.

But today, they padded atop the sunlit grass, warmed against their paws as they breathed the scents of nearby plants. 'Would they rather more goldenrod or perhaps some burnet...' But their ear flicked, hearing the small one they all called Dandelion speak up.

While Molewhisker never felt they were much use in conversing with the smaller of the clan, between Meadowpaw, Cricketkit and Charitypaw, they found themself in company of the growing youth of the clan. So they didn't hesitate to stop as they recognised that fear sounding lacing the little thing's voice.

'So that was what felt wrong.' There was something that had unnerved Molewhisker, something they couldn't quite pinpoint. So as their gaze scanned the area, the lack of the Medicine cat was now obvious, like spotting a beast in the undergrowth eyeing an unsuspecting piece of prey, only evident when it was too late.

The chimaera breathed the air, trying to catch the slightest scent of the molly, but this was one of the few times they wished that bumbling Gale guard was about; at least he was useful for tracking. But they noticed the sudden panic now clung to Meadowpaw, the apprentice of that missing cat. They padded over and gently nudged the calico thing with a reassuring headbump.

"Worry not, Meadowpaw, she couldn't have gone too far with none of us realising. The valleys here are mischievous, rises and dips in the land make it hard to see someone immediately." They reassured, tenderly, looking to the other warriors. "Are any of you runners, you would fair better going back to camp to see if she turned back than I could."

They would have themself, but they knew better than to take a task they knew stronger warriors than themself could take over. With a hum, they tried to figure out where a cat might disappear to. They considered for a moment the tunnels, such a cat wouldn't dare enter without an experienced tunneler, surely.

A huff of a sigh left their lips, though they tried to remain steady. "Yes, Dandelionpaw, where did you last see her? She may have turned around for something if she was trailing us." They didn't plan to jump to conclusions, not when it was highly unlikely anything amiss had happened to the cat; she wasn't a fool.

It's Dandelionpaw that draws attention to something that has felt wrong for the last couple of minutes. Normally, Goldenroar was a little bit better about keeping the situation in mind, where each cat was. Like a board of checkers or chess, two steps ahead of anything that may be coming. But he was off today, or distracted by something in the distance- those clouds did look nasty- but his apprentice asks a question that leaves a knife in his ribs. Aqua eyes round towards his apprentice, who has been dutiful in coming along with most things.

Sassafraschill is the closest warrior to Dandelionpaw, and that's who his apprentice asks- Goldenroar is already on the crest of a hill slightly higher away from them, his body going rigid and fur slowly standing on end. Bushed tail only grows moreso, his head craning this way and that. He searches the peaks of hills nearby, tries to catch a scent that he cannot. Something sour curdles in his stomach, but he forces down the nausea that's rising at the thought of the gorge or any other predator simply taking their medicine cat. Ripping her from the heart of Windclan, their lands that have felt safe for so long. Goldenroar swallows thickly, turning and heading down the hill to the rest of the group.

"Easy, Dandy." He utters to his apprentice, pressing his pelt against his charge. The deputy doesn't impart words of wisdom on his apprentice about not losing his head- now wasn't the time. Now so was not the time. He listens for any answer that Sassafraschill may give to Dandelionpaw, then splits his maw open. "Sassafraschill, run back to camp. Look for her. We're going to start heading back that direction ourselves after a bit of scouring here." He orders. The normally easy-going tone is gone for something harder. He wouldn't ever call it fear, no, it was never that, but there was a nervousness itching at his paws. What if she really had fallen in the gorge? Aqua eyes snap towards the offender in question just over yonder, and his frown deepens.

"Don't announce the issue aloud, but tell Dustystar if you can't find her at first glance." He finishes telling Sassafraschill, a dip of his head hopefully conveying the trust he was putting in the moor-runner. Goldenroar's head turned. "Meadowpaw, was there any specific herb that you know she would have been looking for- one that isn't found everywhere, where she could have split off to look for it?" He questions. Please, say yes. Tell me this isn't what I think it is.

The thoughts that invade are like locusts nibbling—fear, doubt, worry. Everything had been going great since she became Gladebloom's apprentice. Every day she was learned new things, bettering her knowledge to help everyone. She found a new purpose, and Gladebloom was showing her the way. Without her, she would be…

A soft nudge breaks her of that loop. She looks up, green eyes glimmering gently. Meadowpaw nods with a strained smile. "Y-yes, you're right." The prairie was vast and even if Gladebloom was knowledgeable about the area, he could've just wandered off. They couldn't lose hope before the search even began.

Strange to be looking for herbs one minute and her mentor the next. Thankfully, Goldenroar is there to take charge. "Well, let me think." She wracks her brain for the places that she knew of. "We were looking for more herbs to help Owlbear, so..."

"Juniper berries are found closer to the ThunderClan border. Coltsfoot is umm… well it's a bit more uh abundant but theres a big field near the moonstone where lots of flowers grow, I remember seeing some there." Meadowpaw prayed to the stars that the she-cat was in either of those places.

I'm a young soul in this very strange world
Hoping I could learn a bit 'bout what is true and fake
But why all this hate? Try to communicate
Finding trust and love is not always easy to make

Weaselchirp seemed to have popped up from nowhere, as usual. Dirt clung to her black fur like old memories, her orange eyes wide as they drifted over the small assembly. She blinked slowly, her gaze landing on Meadowpaw and lingering just long enough to clock the panic, the restlessness buzzing beneath her pelt, the uncertainty in her breath. Oh dear. Something had happened. She toddled closer to Goldenroar and Meadowpaw, quiet but not unnoticed, eyes flicking between them as words like herbs and missing slipped into her ears. Gladebloom. Ah.

A shame, that. " Has she been taken... " Weaselchirp mused aloud, voice soft and a little distant. " Or is she simply scavenging further from here to find the herbs... " She tilted her head slowly, one oversized ear twitching, as if trying to catch a noise no one else could hear. " If she wandered off on purpose, she'll return with something weird. " she added matter-of-factly. " If not... the earth probably remembers where she went. " There was a pause then, her eyes fixated on the group before she frowned.

" I did not see her underground. "
