CHECK-IN GUIDE AND FAQ

Purrgatory runs off a simple registration system, and that is our character check-ins. We do not require personalities, histories, or completed bios - just the basics and you'll be writing new clan histories in no time. Please familiarize yourself with the process below to begin.

Please note that all characters must be checked-in. There are no exceptions.

STEP 1: PREFIX CLAIMS

Prefixes are the first part of a character's name in the Warrior Cat Universe, and therefore the first thing we need to know about your cat when checking them in. We allow a very broad range of prefix options and, as such, we have set a two-prefix limit per name to encourage people to be more creative and to limit confusion in and out of character. Current leaders, deputies, and medicine cats get their prefixes blacklisted from use. This allows them to remain unique for history upkeep purposes, and gives the names a sense of gravitas ... at least for as long as they serve their respective clan.

1
Read over our prefix claims guide for information on naming conventions and more importantly, prefix claims! There are some prefixes that are automatically banned, such as Star- (no StarStar in this house!), or names of current High Positions are not allowed. There cannot be two prefixes in the same clan, and only up to two of the same prefixes across different clans. (So there can be a Rowanpaw in WindClan and a Rowanheart in Shadowclan, but they cannot be in the SAME clan).
2
If you are unsure if your prefix is allowed on site, please check with our moderation team through Discord under the #name-check channel. You can also reference our Approved Prefix and Suffix List to see if a given name has already been cleared.
3
You DO NOT need to submit loners/kittypets/rogues or barn cats to the prefix list unless they are destined to join a clan and you are reserving their name for it! This list is only to keep track of clan cat prefixes, any other cat can have whatever name they like and we do not track them!

STEP 2: CHECK IN THREAD
1
Once you have an idea of what you want your prefix to be, it's time to head over to Character Check In and make a thread. Threads do not have include any particular information in the title. Please allow the staff team up to 48 hours to review and approve your check-in before sending a reminder.
2
The content of your check-in thread should include the following AT MINIMUM:
  • Character name (prefix/suffix). For cats not starting in a clan, include their future clan prefix and not just their pre-clan name. This is what you'll claim. You do not have to claim a suffix at time of check-in, though it is recommended just for our reference. Kits being named in-character can skip the name, however it's up to you to claim it properly later and it must not be unavailable.
  • Reference for their description. If you have no visual you can opt instead to include a detailed summary or even hex-code colors / a palette to get your point across. Please avoid using Discord images, as Discord no longer allows image hosting outside their platform, leaving us unable to check your character's design.
  • Clan or other affiliation, or future association.
  • Rank
3
AS A NOTE: you may also choose to RESERVE a prefix if you're worried about the name being taken, but aren't sure if you're ready to make them just yet. This information is also available in Character Check-In Information.
STEP 3: APPROVAL

After you have successfully posted your check-in to the correct board, staff will review your information and APPROVE via the Boopaw account. This APPROVAL message will include links to your next steps. Please remember to claim your prefix before attempting to post onsite, even if you have already made your character's subaccount. Your character is not considered fully official until their prefix is properly logged and your prefix may be seen as forfeit if left unclaimed.

After that, we will take care of adding you to the prefix roster. Then, it is officially time to make your subaccounts and get started roleplaying!
CHANGING DETAILS & RETURNING MEMBERS

For a character that will be named in-character, how do I check in their (not given) name?
> Submit a check-in as normal with TBD- listed as their prefix, which lets staff know that this character be approved in the interim. Once a name is chosen, you'll need to edit the original check in to reflect the name. It is the responsibility of all parties involved in the IC naming to make sure that the name chosen is not taken. Please check with the staff team if you are unsure.

I want to edit or change the design of a cat I already checked in.
> Edit your check in with a note that you are changing the design. Please include the new design in the updated check-in.

I want to change the prefix of an already approved cat.
> Resubmit your check-in as if you are making a new one with a note and link to the one it's replacing. When approved, make a note on your prefix claim so we can free up the previous one.
DEATH AND INACTIVITY

Prefixes go back up for claim if the character isn't posted with in 3 Months! For a prefix to go back up for claim the character must have been inactive for three months, written out/dropped, died, or their owner has left the site.

Characters who have not made an IC post or posted in our ABSENCE CHECK-IN are subject to "Missing Status" and lose their prefix claim. The addition of the absence check-in is to allow those who suspect they will be unable make an IC post in the three month window the opportunity to express continued interest and presence while also requesting an 'extension' of sorts on losing their character's prefix claim.
