It wasn't long after moving that Mirabelle's humans allowed her outside, so long as her jingly cowbell collar still dangled around her neck. For the first few days, she'd stuck mostly to the garden, sniffing each of the little plants that had been planted prior to the move, and getting underfoot as her favorite human planted their own seedlings and sprouts. After one too many "shoos," she'd humphed and jumped onto the fence, nearly tumbling back down as the barking of a dog announced her arrival.
"Uncouth!" she shouted down at it, seeing its face across the barricade. A tiny thing, more yip than yap. Hmph! Well, she was certain there must be more out there than yucky little dogs!
"I'm going out!" she announced to her human, flicking her tail in goodbye, and began her movement along the fences, going this way and that, mewing hellos to other housecats of varying degrees of friendliness and hissing warnings to the other dogs she encountered. After a bit of exploring, she smelled... wow! That was a lot of cat scent! Maybe there was someone who fed strays? Or a patch of catmint that everyone used? She followed the scent to the source - a park! Her humans had taken her to one before, after strapping that big ugly pelt over her whole body. It had been so much fun to watch the birds and squirrels! Maybe that's what all these cats were doing?
She lept off the fence and padded forward until she'd reached the edge of the group, then cleared her throat and spoke.
"Hello! What's going on here? Is there some sort of catnip patch or squirrels to watch here?"
