The twolegplace is unfamiliar territory to Echostep, a stark contrast from the territory she has lived in all her life. From the soft dirt of the forest floor to the squish of the wetland that she trailed to at Sablestar's heels, Echostep has always had a home out in the wilds. They have not often felt the scrape of their own claws on concrete and asphalt, the unforgiving ground feeling a touch too harsh for their joints. Behind them their long tail brushes the ground occasionally, awkward gait leaving it trailing and off-balance. All around them, from the towering tops of houses to the distant hum of the strange machines that prowl the inky paths, every unknown sight makes Echostep feel decidedly out of their element. Perhaps this wasn't the best idea, coming all the way into the twolegplace in an effort to swipe food for ShadowClan… when they don't even know their way around.
As they trudge their way through the afternoon sunrays, they cannot help but to notice the cat who lingers in front of one of the houses, with a speckled face and a short stature. They refuse to meet the stranger's gaze, sure that if they don't acknowledge her she'll go away before Echostep is forced to pass by her. This does not seem to be the case. "Greetings, stranger," they call out to the other cat with a dip of their head, only when the two are too close for Echostep to feasibly ignore them any longer. After all, they could use some guidance, and this freckled feline appears kind enough to offer it unprompted to the lynx point, who must look like some scraggly stray at the moment. Still, Echostep lacks the patience to wait for the other to draw that conclusion on her own—they step closer, their small form comparative to the other's height, and speak up once again. "Would you mind pointing me in the direction of the best place to find food around here? It doesn't need to be good, just edible." Goodness knows the thief has eaten worse things than what this housepet could guide them to; who knows, perhaps they'll be led to a treasure trove of food. It's worth a try, they decide.
