Rabbits had never been his specialty.

They didn't live in the city where he'd been born, and he'd only had the chance to practice his technique a few times back at the old camp before they'd moved deeper into the woods. They were still out there, but from the rarity in which they made themselves known, it was clear they preferred the open moors to the crowded trees, where they could truly use their speed to their advantage.

Though, as Ghost was quickly learning, a clever rabbit who knew how to utilize the sharp turns of the trees could be just as successful in the forest.

The tom was impressively large, but he was no slouch when it came to moving. Dangerously silent and unsuspectingly fast with his reflexes, he was formidable in almost anything he did-- but this damned rabbit was certainly getting the better of him as he chased it through the underbrush and over roots, muscles straining to anticipate it's moves and correct for them in the midst of their mad dash before it reached a burrow. Something this size would feed more than one mouth, and he was eager to bring it back to add to their stores.

But unfortunately, that wasn't in the cards for him today.

Ghoststrike threw on the breaks the moment he realized what the rabbit was up to, knowing he'd lost the moment it's furry little paws touched black asphalt. Sides heaving for breath, he watched with dark eyes as it streaked across the thunderpath, narrowly avoiding being struck by one of the twoleg monsters. That defeat would have been sour enough in his mouth, but to then see it immediately snatched up by a Shadowclan cat turned his glare into a momentary scowl. As if he'd found a fly resting on his prey.

The look only softened marginally when he realized it was Mothbite who'd been the one to grab it. The tom had given him a few scars during the battle that broke the old colony, but Ghost had never been surprised by that particular betrayal. As much as he hadn't hated Mothbites company, he hadn't exactly taken the other as a shining example of morality, either. It was too bad it was Sable who'd gotten into their head instead of someone else. It might not have been the worst to have them around.

But they'd all made their choices, drawn their lines, and he and Moth stood on opposite sides now.

  • ooc : — TLDR; the rabbit Ghost is chasing bolts straight across the Thunderpath and into the waiting jaws of a Shadowclanner! Feel free to post after @Mothbite does! It'll be open to Sc and TC! (For clarification, Ghost is till on his side of the border. He's not trespassing in Sc!)

Still so young, Desperate for attention!

indentttMothbite can hear something crashing through the forest. Too noisy to be a cat, he thinks. He decides to check it out anyways - better safe than sorry. He move to cut off the source of the noise as it moves towards the marsh. As he gets closer, the tantalizing smell fills his nose. A rabbit!. Mothbite conceals himself in the bushes until it comes into range, and the pounces. There's a short struggle as Mothbite subdues the rabbit. He's not much bigger than the rabbits that live in the forest, so he can't instantly overpower it. With his jaws locked around the it's throat and a his claws digging into it's belly, the rabbit wheezes and groans before going still

indenttt Score! Everyone back at camp is gonna be impressed with a catch like this. Mothbite lifts his prey by the back of it's neck, wondering who he'll decide to share it with. As his head raises, Mothbite locks eyes with the tom on the other side of the thunderpath. Ghost. He must have been chasing the rabbit when it crossed over to Shadowclan's territory.

indentttHe sneers, more on instinct than out of any malice. "Thanks for the help, Ghost. Couldn't'a done it without you." Despite his biting words, he seems nervous. His tail curls to hide the scar on his hip - a lasting reminder of their last encounter. Proof that, despite his best efforts the two of them had never managed to become anything more than distant acquaintances. Instead, they found themselves as enemies, divided by war and famine.

Sealpaw feels like she's actually beginning to pull her weight, now that she was no longer left to her own devices and Smogmaw had begun to teach her what he knew. And he seemed to have an answer for nearly everything. Which was good because the last thing she wanted was to be caught in the same position as her last run in with Thunderclan- angering both sides with her foolishness and especially her clanmates.

She's about to ask Mothbite a question when the sound of something making a racket reaches both cat's ears and she wordlessly follows the night guard's lead. A rabbit! "Nice catch Mothbite!" She purrs before pouting slightly, batting a small pebble from the thunderpath between her paws. "I wanna catch a rabbit too..."

Her friend seems distracted though, and she follows his gaze to... Oh! He hadn't left the forest after all! Despite the recent history lesson from Wolfpack and Smogmaw's own warnings that they were sworn enemies now, Sealpaw couldn't help but be glad that Ghoststrike hadn't left like he'd said he would.

Grey paws shuffled in place, itching to cross the road to say hello but the last time she'd done so was still rather fresh in her mind. "Mr Ghost..! You stayed here after all!" Blue eyes briefly darted from the rabbit to the large tom and she smiled. "Maybe you'll have better luck next time? Thanks for the rabbit..!" Unlike her friend it had been genuine rather than sarcastic.

Thunderflash manages to keep his mouth shut, despite the giggles that wanted to escape as he rushed after Ghoststrike. Mostly for two reasons- he had no reason to piss Ghoststrike off today (though he typically didn't need one,) and the fact they were actively hunting to feed those hungry mouths back in camp. When Ghoststrike comes to a short stop, so does Thunderflash, the Storm Guard's shoulders heaving. He makes a point of bumping Ghoststrike on the shoulder very lightly, as if to say 'a good chase regardless'.

A huff of amusement left him following, baby blue eyes squinting at the rabbit as it ran it's way right into- the claws of a Shadowclanner. The excitement left his body for something more grim, more quiet, and he stands up straighter, his tail flicking behind him in irritation. The opposite side of the Thunderpath called and jeered at Ghoststrike, prompting him to cast a sidelong glance. It feels as if he's stepped into ice cold waters, seeing the barest hint of softness in the vision of Ghoststrike. Most couldn't read the darker tabby, his eyes normally narrowed critically. But Thunderflash had made a point to engage, to learn, to watch Ghoststrike. That right there? It betrayed weakness. It... it spoke to Ghoststrike enjoying another's presence. Someone in an enemy clan- jealousy bit before he could even truly finish the thought all the way through.

He's lost in his thoughts, more then he realizes, to the point he misses Sealpaw's call to the Thunderclan Warrior. Thunderflash's eyes drop to his paws, considering his words carefully. When he speaks, he only says something to Sealpaw specifically. "Nice ta' see y', Seal. Hope yer stayin' safe n' fed." Thunderflash says, voice raised just enough to carry over the Thunderpath, before he's turning to disappear back into Thunderclan's undergrowth.
