She shivered against the shadows, still long and lingering in the dawn. When she rotated a tired ear, she could hear it outside: the quiet rustle of the grass growing wild, past the maintained, cropped ring around the barn. It was trembling like something was hunting it. For all she knew, it had reasons to be afraid. Animals larger than cats often stalked around. Still blinking, foggyheaded, Lark's heart gave a wingbeat at the idea of encountering something.
For now, she knew that these hours were the best to steal wool. Nothing was ever awake to stop her, and if it was, it often didn't bother her. Lark's spidery legs landed into the hay below the loft, shaking its dust out of her fur. She was so focused on the details of it, on the loveliness that the adventure would bring...
"Oh-!"
The calico was able to swivel in time, inches from stepping on another barncat's paws. A moment, unidentified fur. Lark spun, pausing in a safe spot, before a crooked grin split across her face.
"Hello, Honey!"
