Webpaw hadn't been at the previous Gathering, and she wasn't selected to go to the upcoming one either. How frickin' annoying? She was 9 moons old, for star's sake, and even Lavenderpaw got picked! Well, even with the Gathering being tonight, Webpaw was determined to actually go to FourTrees and see what all the fuss was about.

Her determination? Boring. Just a bunch of old trees and a big-ass rock. Nothing special.

What was exciting was that she could smell like every single Clan's scent there. After all, Dewshine had mentioned something about all the borders being there. She opened her mouth a bit, taking in all the scents... Most familiar (besides ThunderClan of course) was the woody scent of SkyClan. Juniperstar had reeked of it when the clan came back from the previous Gathering! And if the senior warriors were to be believed, they were nothing but a bunch of holier-than-thou troublemakers.

With complete disregard to the poltical tensions currently brewing between her Clan and SkyClan, she padded across the border, head held high. She'd show Dewshine and the other apprentices how capable she was- she'd make sure to prove herself!

Cinderpaw didn't mind not going to the gathering. It seemed like it would be a bore, anyways. Or maybe it would be fun? But last gathering sounded... Dangerous. Risky. And sure, sometimes he loved to take risks- but not really like that. It was a turmoil in his head, torn between wanting to meet others, and wanting to keep to just his clan. Either way, there'd be more gatherings, and eventually he knew he'd go.

Cherrydawn followed somewhere behind him, his body eager to move ahead, to keep exploring. She was taking it easy with him, but he was still learning a lot. He even got to tussle with Almondpaw showing new moves he learned, and honestly, it felt real actually knowing some things. The albino boy, still growing into his fur that grew out unevenly. Pink eyes glanced around before spotting the other.

She was bigger, but she looked more like an older apprentice than a warrior. Cinderpaw tilted his head, before freezing. The Thunderclanner just crossed the border! "Hey!" His voice shouted, bursting forward to face the stranger. "This is skyclan territory! Ya can't do that! I'm gonna tell Hawkstar on ya! And yer gonna be in SO MUCH TROUBLE!" He said, eyebrows narrowed and a weak growl escaping him as he poofed his hair out to try to look bigger as he stepped towards the Thunderclanner.

Webpaw's feet dug into the ground as the voice of some squeaky apprentice called out to her. He looked bigger than her, but with that squeaky little growl he was more like a kittypet than a warrior! She let out a sharp laugh, whisking her tail back and forth. What a treat! There was some other SkyClan scent on the wind, sure, but far enough away that she could antagonize this guy for a bit before any real trouble came along. Wait until the other apprentices heard about her cuffing some weakling SkyClanner on the ears! They'd be so jealous.

"Oh yeah? Why should I care what Hawkstar thinks? Plus," she sneered, "If this is the best Hawkstar has to offer for guarding her border?" She steps closer until she's practically nose to nose with the other cat. "Why should I be afraid at all? I didn't realize she let kits out of camp to patrol the borders. You all must be in really sore need of help!"

The heat burned in Cinderpaws ivory ears, cheeks puffing in frustration. The apprentice stepped closer to them, nose to nose with him, and pink eyes narrowed. "Not care what Hawkstar thinks? Shes a leader!" His foot stomped hard into the dirt beneath his paw, not letting the other intimidate him. It was one of the codes after all, that the leaders words were law- and this dude wanted to break it-

His thoughts were interrupted. A kit? She thought I was a kit? And that Skyclan couldn't protect themselves? Usually, cinderpaw didn't resort to violence, but he felt the heat of anger filling his face, his pink eyes slitting in the aggression and threat of danger. "My father is a lead warrior! One of the best in all the clans! I'm not just a kit! I'm cinderpaw- Duskpools son!" He exclaimed his feats in the others face, before angling on his weight onto his back paws, before using all his strength to shove Webpaw back with his front paws. He'd show her... He'd have to! And then Duskpool and Hawkstar would be proud of him. Even Cherrydawn. If he managed to shove him back, he'd leap again, aiming in a flurry of paws and teeth to try to grip something of the other apprentice.

"Hawkstar's not my leader," she snorted. "So no, I don't care what she thinks!" The other cat stomped his paw and she couldn't hold back a laugh. He was trying to intimidate her! How funny!

Her head tilted as he mentioned his father.

"Duskpool? Who's that? Some other stuck-up SkyClan cat? If he's one of the best in the Clans, why haven't I heard of him?" The shove took her a bit by surprise, unbalancing her for a moment. Then the younger cat - Cinderpaw - wildly attacked, snagging her fur, while her ears flattened and she tried to slide under his belly, pushing up with her head to wind him.

Hed had enough. Thunderclan murdered his clanmate- his cousin, and now they were teachin' their kin to cross Skyclan border an' treat 'em this way? Well, with all that bark- where was this apprentices bite? Cinderpaw felt like he had a duty right now- with his mentor still catching up, he had to do something. " Honest to Starclan! I'm tired of yer yappin!" He said, scrambling back as Webpaw knocked her head against the albinos- teeth clenched together as he shook his head to try to get rid of the slight dizziness.

Pink eyes narrowed, and his teeth clenched as he began circling the other, large paws for his size placed in front of the other- tail lashing behind him. "We don't care 'bout intruders around these parts- definitely not murderers. Suggest ya leave, and I won't go easy!" He warned with a crackling growl that was well, weak and pitiful- but he was doing his best! He was sure his father would be proud of him- and Hawkstar, and Cherrydawn. Maybe even Flowercloud!

"Do I need ta show you the border? Get lost!" He yelled, moving to shove the other apprentice again with his shoulder, paws bracing as he used all of his umph. He quickly moved to step back, ivory claws slipping from his paws as he braced, ready for Webpaw to either find her way to the border or come for him again. He'd make sure to go for her face if needed ..

Stormcrow hears a yowl from not too far away, her eyes leaving the dove she'd been following, flicking towards the noise. The Thunderclan border. Immediately alarmed, she darts up a tree and jumps through the treetops towards it, anticipating a fight and therefore gaining the high ground. She spots Cinderpaw and some Thunderclan cat that has wandered beyond their own border. Idiots, the lot of them. She halts in a tree above Cinderpaw, watching as the youngster shoves the other cat off, a brave attempt for one so recently made apprentice. But the Thunderclan cat is older and larger, and Stormcrow doesn't doubt that the hearts of all Thunderclanners are dark and murderous, if they could so readily defend a self-confessed murderer.

She leaps down from her perch, landing halfway in front of Cinderpaw, blocking his body from any attack the stranger might attempt. Her hackles raised, claws unsheathed, she narrows her eyes at them.

"I don't know if you're an idiot, if you lost your sense of smell, or both, but I suggest you go back to Fourtrees, little mouse," she sneers, flashing sharp teeth as she draws herself to her full height, towering over the Thunderclanner. "Although your deputy showed our young ones no such grace, I will give you a head start. Go now, go fast, and no harm will come to you this time."

"and this time, she won't be forgiving"
losing track of an apprentice felt like having a claw torn from your paw. it had a habit of getting blood everywhere, left room for the infection of their foolishness... and as the scent of the young ThunderClanner grows more obvious in its gallivanting beyond the borders towards the wide, open spaces of the neutral territory, Juniperstar finds herself growing anxious. had she not been clear enough, the danger that was posed by their less-than-friendly neighbors? Asterpaw wasn't half so unruly... Boarpaw a diligent and well-behaved young tom... the fact Webpaw had even ventured out here in direct opposition of her orders felt like a stinging welt of betrayal.

but urgency hurries her steps the moment the scent trail veers off, it doesn't linger around the great trees, doesn't weave around to explore the large stones that stand as a perch above all others. it practically bee-lines for SkyClan's border and that is what catches her heart in her throat. if it were to beat any harder, she feared it could very well rip at the seams of an old scar and siphon off another life. there is the hissing and spitting of argument as she draws nearer, rushing to the edge of the marked land to find the vigilante apprentice not only antagonizing a SkyClan apprentice (one that is much too small, in Juniperstar's opinion), but a generous handful of strides across the border. her eyes flick towards Stormcrow as the sun guard seems to appear from the sky itself, and it is a surprise that she chooses mercy, given how quickly she tended to bare her teeth otherwise.

she hears biting comment, that Owlbark had not shown mercy to the young. (a full grown adult, who knew better, who had grown up in SkyClan knowing their fabled codes the whole time). "An idiot," she answers decidedly on Webpaw's behalf, not daring to step foot across the border herself even as she glowers at her clan-mate. "Get over here... now." it is the venomous snap of a mother pushed towards ire, rather than that of a leader.

Serpentberry would have no part in healing any injuries from such a stupidly picked fight, even she knows that, even she can recognize how the barbed molly has retracted from generosity with her skills. the kind thing to do would be to offer to compensate Swallowbreeze, wouldn't it? but her power to promise that feels frail at best... "Is that apprentice hurt...? I can ask Rowanpaw to accommodate Swallowbreeze the next time they meet... as an apology for Webpaw's.... mistake." because it was a mistake, one she would be fortunate enough to outlive and learn from (hopefully).

Claws unsheathed, Webpaw sliced through the air after weathering the latest beating - if he was going to be such a problem, she would leave him with some sort of memory!

And then, two more scents flooded the air. One was unfamiliar - SkyClan, though, by the general feel of it - and the other...

Fuck. Juniperstar.

"Owlbark is strong and smart and a worthy deputy. Don't you dare - " She almost stepped forward to confront the warrior, certain she could try and hold her own, but Juniperstar's approach and scolding stopped her in her tracks. Webpaw may not have much respect for her mentor, the other Clans, most of the other ThunderClan warriors... but she certainly respected her leader and deputy. And as much as her heart burned to defend her Clanmates, she would respect Juniperstar's authority in this moment. She wrinkled her nose at the apprentice before turning on her heel and padding across the border. She wouldn't dip her head down to the enemy Clan, nor would she show too much haughtiness as her leader scolded her. She stood just behind her leader, eyes narrowed and steely at the SkyClan cats.

"They called us murderers," she hissed under her breath, barely able to contain her rage. She couldn't let Juniperstar just roll over and take the abuse, especially if it was Webpaw's fault.

Paws are trained, faster, more skilled. He tries to move, he tries to- but instead, the faster paws meet his cheek. Pink eyes widen as he moves backwards, late. Blood splatters over pure white fur, over green grass as his movement only helps the other. Instantaneous pain rips through his cheek, his jaw dropping slightly and fear entering his gaze. Unwelcome, but nonetheless present.

His breath catches. He'd never really seen blood, his father shielding him from the majority of it, nonetheless his own. The smell of it was enough to blind his senses, his vision blurred as pupils turned to slits and his paws dug into the ground for support. It wasn't a bad injury- but to cinderpaw, this was a life altering moment.

Stormcrow leaped from the trees, the kings guards paws landing lighter than the leaves that had started to fall. His gaze hardened, his body moving to her side as his eyes glowered towards the other apprentice- towards the leader that called for her to return, regarding Webpaw as an idiot. But he stood beside Stormcrow, as he was protected. Juniperstar asked if he had been hurt, and the albino flicked his head to look at Stormcrow, a part of him wanting to say only his ego. Except, it wasn't true. The cheek that had been shielded, turned away from them as for them not to see would only be revealed to the other. But not to them.

His name was Webpaw, now, was it? He'd have to remember that. His king would absolutely like to know the name- and the face. But for now he kept quiet, standing high, standing proud beside the lead warrior.

DUSKPOOL
His bulky frame cut through shadows, molten copper snapping from one cat to the next before landing on his son. The one he swore to protect above all else. For the promise he uttered to Honeycombsplash before she passed within his arms. Duskpool refused to bury another child, not now, not ever, not while he was alive. Really, no child should die before their parent. That was plain and simple. He buried enough of his kids to last him a lifetime.

"Cinderpaw." The name cracked sharp as claws. He ain't ever had to use their names, often callin' folk kid or kiddo, pipsqueak, even, but never their names. It ain't ever been in his nature, but right now? Duskpool was furious, just as he was disappointed. His molten iris cut across the scene once more. It made his scoff internally, wooly plumage comin' to block Juniperstar from seein' Cinderpaw.

Barely payin' attention to the ThunderClanners, Duskpool twisted his neck to stare down at his son, amber iris ablaze. "Don't ever think borders are a game, ya hear? Puttin' yerself in harm's way thinkin' it earns ya glory? It doesn't." His voice rumbled, growin' louder as he shot a glare in Webpaw's direction, like a parent scoldin' a kit. His muzzle wrinkled, jaws clenchin', swallowin' down the inaudible snarl bubbling up.

His molten gaze locked onto Juniperstar, mangled ear twitchin' with restrained fury. He had thought the leader would have been better after dyin' for it. And if Webpaw died? He had at least hoped the lot of 'em had enough common sense, but he reckoned not. "I'd have thought ThunderClan learned its lesson after spillin' blood over the border. Thought maybe ya wouldn't want that stain twice over." His tone carried like low rollin' thunder, his gaze deadpan. "But if this is how ya yer youngsters behave, then I reckon I was wrong." He shifted his weight, a scarred wall between Cinderpaw and the others, every line of him radiatin' warnin'. "I suppose I should thank ya for offerin, but I suggest the lot of ya get home. Now." Words meant for both clans.

With a flick of his wooly plumage, Duskpool nudged his son away from the border, "Come on. We best be gettin' home." His tone was a low, guttural thrum, "And get ya looked over by Swallowbreeze."

  • DUSKPOOL stands like a storm given flesh, broad-shouldered and unyielding. His frame was built from the bloodlines of a Norwegian Forest and Maine Coon, every inch steeped in the weight of a life hard-lived. His pelt is a wooly black smoke mantle, thick as winter fog and marked with faint mackerel stripes. Old scars score his flanks and shoulders like lightning carved into the night sky, with each one telling a story that was paid for in blood.

One molten-copper eye burns fierce and unblinking, sharp enough to cut through lies, while the other is nothing but a hollowed ruin. A sunken relic of a battle he walked away from when he shouldn't have. His tail is a heavy, swaying banner of shadow, and his paws are silent despite their size, measured by someone who's learned patience the hard way.

He carries himself with the gravity of an old war-chief, regular in ruin, yet brutal in beauty. His very presence is a warning that some storms don't pass. They wait. And they return.

CHERRY OF SKYCLAN

Cherrydawn's heart hammered in her chest as she rushed to her apprentice, gently nosing Cinderpaw and inspecting the wounds. A light frown tugged at her muzzle. " Are you okay? D-did you... " she began, cutting herself off as her gaze snapped toward the ThunderClanner who had attacked her apprentice. Her tail lashed, eyes flashing with anger. She had trusted Cinderpaw to stay just a few paws ahead, to test what he had learned… but instead she'd been met with yowls, hisses, and the sharp tang of blood in the air. Thank the Stars that Stormcrow had arrived just in time.

" You did well. " she mewed softly, her attention back to her apprentice as she gave an approving nod. " You protected our border very well. " Turning her gaze toward the ThunderClan leader, her voice hardened. " Keep your young in check. The borders exist for a reason. " As the ThunderClan apprentice spit and raged, Cherrydawn wrinkled her nose in contempt. That cat he spoke of had murdered, and she knew it. Poor Rosebelly… she had seen what the young warrior had become.

When Duskpool finally arrived, Cherrydawn dipped her head, almost shamefully. She should have stayed closer to Cinderpaw, kept a paw on him… but she had hoped giving him some freedom would teach him a few lessons. " I apologize. " she murmured, frustration threading through her voice. " I should have remained closer, Duskpool. Stormcrow. " Gently nudging her apprentice along, she added softly. " I'm sorry, Cinderpaw. "

Cinderpaw beamed in the praise Cherrydawn gave him. It was tough, and the albino felt his skin in raw pain as he grinned, but he tried to hide it the best he could. Even if the grin fell a bit, lowering his head as he sat down. "See, I told her that she needed to respect the border and she said-"

Then Duskpool arrived. The name said like that felt like whiplash, his head ducked down, and ears flattened. "Dad-" he whispered, quickly, but it didn't matter. The large Tom pushed himself in front of the apprentice, his form a barricade. He spoke with a strictness he'd not seen from him since the day he became an apprentice, his ears feeling hot from embarrassment of being scolded in front of the enemy. His head turned to them, the venom in his words enough to make Cinderpaw shrink. He'd never heard his father speak like that. Almondpaw had mentioned something about his snapping at her- but he'd never seen it this bad.

His paws shuffled softly in front of him. "Dad I don't think it's a game... Webpaw came over here all high and mighty. Sayin' she can do whatever she wanted, she doesn't need t' listen t' the code. She called you stuck up, an' you know how I feel about others talkin' bout ya' dad. And our clan. She didn't care. D-dad I was jus' doin' our duty-" normally he'd laugh at saying duty, but his tail swept against the ground, tears welling at the edges of pink eyes. But he turned his head from the rest of the patrol, his body sweeping to turn away from them. His tears caused stutters in his voice, but he barely noticed. The pain in his chest almost succeeded the pain in his cheek.

"It isn't yer fault, Cherrydawn. I thought ya guys would be proud of me, b-but It won't happen again." He murmured softly, tail dragging behind him and body slumped as he walked ahead. Hiding the tears, a paw wiping his face before biting his tongue and moving forward. He'd really thought he was doing something good, maybe he should've just told on Webpaw instead.

CHERRY OF SKYCLAN

Cherrydawn's gaze softened as she looked at the sad face of her apprentice. Her heart ached, he hadn't done anything wrong, not at all. He had acted just as he should, protecting SkyClan as he had been taught. In her eyes, he had done well. It was the response from Duskpool that made her uneasy, shaking her confidence as a mentor. Had she messed up with her very first apprentice? Perhaps, in some ways, she still had much to learn.

Taking a quick glance at Duskpool, she pressed closer to Cinderpaw, lowering her head solemnly. A shaky smile tugged at her muzzle.

" No, you did amazing, Cinderpaw… don't think you didn't. I'm proud of you, very much so. You protected your border. You protected your clan. " she murmured softly, blinking warmly at him. " You're learning so much… and growing strong. "
