It's a silly thought, but Dimmingun swears he has not seen this much rain in his life. That's one pro of living alone and without responsibility—whenever the terrain or the weather had gotten too inconvenient, he had been able to move on without a second thought, and without losing anything. This time... his paws have been itching ever since the rain clouds have began to hang over the moors, almost like instinct urging him to go. It is unusual for him to stay in one place despite the circumstances. But the WindClan camp is not a portable thing; he supposes this is simply what happens when you have a place to call home. It begins to feel dangerous- threatening your peace.

His paws carry him towards the den, stalking across the camp with a deep frown on his face. It sits upon his features in sharp contrast to the lazy smile he usually wears, but it is not out of place. When there is no need to hide his displeasure, Dimmingsun doesn't shy away from letting his inner thoughts sit on the surface.

It's not like anyone can blame him for his crankiness. He has seen the disappointment seeping into patrolling warriors; the way what little prey they find seems to slip out of their grasp, or the way scent markers drift away as soon as they place them on the borders. Nobody is happy about the circumstances. Why hadn't these storms migrated already? Why don't they bother a Clan more suitable for these conditions, like RiverClan?

Dimmingsun freezes when he notices the steady trickle pouring out from the mouth of the tunnel that leads into his sanctuary. No.

"The den..."
he breathes into the air, stomach feeling heavy with foreboding. The camp has becoming less and less suitable for day-to-day life, but the medicine cat den has been giving him someplace to settle at the end of the day. Now... now he's scared of what he will find when he enters.

Hesitantly, Dimmingsun enters—he grits his teeth against the cold water that he wades across, its height slowly rising as he ventures deeper.

Soon enough, the reality of the situation hits him full force.
"The medicine den is flooded!"
His yowl can surely be heard outside, full of disbelief and horror. He doesn't know why his chest seems to cave in the way that it does; it's just a stupid den. A very convenient den that he and Meadowpaw have been pouring their care into—and Gladebloom before him, too, no doubt—, but it's not like it's not replaceable. And yet... Dimmingsun hears his own heaving, mouth hanging open in an effort to let him breathe easier. The anger he feels is overwhelming.

It's so immature to feel this much towards the weather. The damn weather, of all things.

Dimmingsun retraces his steps only to the entrance; only as much as necessary.
"Meadowpaw! We need to save what little herbs we still have."
He hopes she's in camp. In a way, it doesn't really matter; two cats are still precious little when facing against the elements. Still... at least she knows where everything is and what is most important, like he does. Despite how uncomfortable Dimmingsun feels in his skin, his fur getting more and more damp as he races from one crevice to another, he ignores it all. He has to bring everything outside—see the damage later.

Looking for @Meadowpaw but no need to wait!

MEADOWPAW
x

Meadowpaw didn't even remember falling asleep.

She opened her eyes to a sea of glistening black. It stretched endlessly beneath a hazy sky, the cold liquid lapping at her legs. Even in her dreams, she couldn't escape the wet that clung to her fur. She looked down, green eyes catching her warped reflection in the dark water. The sight of her reflection shocks her. It had been a while since she'd really seen herself, but still… She looked thinner, weary lines carved deep beneath her eyes. Was that really how she looked? The past few days were especially unkind, but… stars, she hadn't realized how much it'd worn her down.

As she studied her reflection, she noticed that the water was rising. Slowly at first, before rising at an alarming pace. There was no sign of where it came from, but she could hear it. Clambering higher and higher until—

"Meadowpaw!"

Dimmingsun bellowed from somewhere she couldn't see. She startled, sucking in a strangled breath. "Dimmingsun?!" The rushing sound is deafening, unmuffled in the physical world. Water poured through the medicine den's open mouth and flooded in from every crack and crevice. The puddles weren't puddles anymore, but a muddy pond. Swirling around her and carrying nesting materials and herbs in its greed.

Meadowpaw lurched upright, sloshing through the rising water. The sight sets her heart racing, the panic damning if she lets it take control. "Everyone out, now!" She yowls over the rush in her ears. There were cats still sheltering here, the frantic slosh of paws echoing through the tunnels. "Talon?! Ravenmask!" Stars, why is this happening?

What was she supposed to do? Glistening green eyes sweep the den—Dimmingsun's instructions ring in the back of her mind.

Meadowpaw wanted to look for the others and help them to safety, but what good would she be? She never swam a day in her life. If things were as bad as they looked, there were going to be more injuries and more sick. They needed as many herbs as they could get their paws on.

The decision she makes is a heavy one. Herbs… the herbs… StarClan, please let everyone be safe. She waded toward the far wall toward the herb stores. The lower shelves were already ruined, but the higher ones remained untouched, and it's those that she reaches for. Cramming as many as she can between her jaws while the den continues to fill.

Meadowpaw values kindness and remembrance. As a kit, she internalized her mother's lessons, but questioned whether her way is the only way. She has broken free from the heavy burden of her mother's expectations due to their estrangement after the fire. She remains kind and soft-spoken through all she's endured, but is not afraid to speak out for what she believes is right.

Meadow works tirelessly at any task she undertakes, desperate to prove herself capable and worthy despite her disability. Without her mother's guidance, she finds new ways to express herself.

In conversations, she is gentle, thoughtful, and withdrawn, often hiding her struggles, fearing others seeing her as incapable. She continues to have a strong bond not only with her sister, but with her adopted family as well. Meadow uses her new freedom to support and deepen the bonds with her clanmates. Additionally, she has started to explore the more spiritual side of herself…

Her worldview is a complicated mix of hope and frustration. She wants to believe that there's hope at the end of all the suffering, but feels trapped by her limitations. With enough time and support, she may find a way to overcome her limitations and accept herself.

The water was approaching and it was approaching fast. The kits, Yewkit included, were being rushed out of the nursery, the camp was evacuating. Warriors started rushing kits to climb on their backs, the caretakers and mothers ushering their children out of the den, to get higher, away from the flood. Yewkit was ready to join them, her small body shivering from the wetness and cold.

But something in the corner of her eye caught her attention, frantic movement - not rushing outside, but inside a den. A voice, one she knew, one she cared about. Meadowpaw.

Yewkit forgot her own worries, her own safety - Meadowpaw was in trouble, the herbs were in trouble. She rushed out of the nursery, water almost as high as her belly, half ran half swam to the medicine den.
"Meadowpaw!" she yelled, her voice unnaturally loud - she rarely spoke, even rarer did she raise her voice. She was obedient and small, she was a good daughter. But she couldn't leave her only friend struggling, no matter what kind of trouble she would get into.

Yewkit paddled into the medicine cat's den, passing various herbs floating in the water on her way in. She grabbed what looked salvageable and left what she deemed ruined - she wasn't sure if she was correct, but she had no time not to trust her intuition. There was nothing she could do for the seeds, no way to gather them nor hold them. The herbs with long stems, the berries, she managed to grab a few on her way in. Meadowpaw was in distress, she could see that clearly, her and Dimmingsun trying to do what they could to save their precious stash.

The water was so much deeper inside and Yewkit found herself unable to reach the medicine cats, for she would not hold that long - she didn't even know how to swim properly, her waddling was just instinct, but her paws weren't trained for this. Instead she stood at the edge of the cave, trying to catch as many herbs as she could, holding them with her mouth, with her paws and tail, with her whole body. She wouldn't fail, she couldn't fail!

Yewkit felt cold, oh so cold, colder than she'd ever been, away from mother and her siblings, in water that kept rising and rising, threatening to take her with it, yet she stood, heart pounding, paws firm, eyes locked onto the plants. This, she determined, was the one thing she could do. She would not run away from this, wouldn't seek shelter, until the two medicine cats, her friends, were ready. Until then, she would stand her ground and wait.

This cannot be happening. The absurdity of the situation echoes in Dimmingsun's mind as if his brain is a mere cave, bouncing against the walls and reverberating with more strength than before. His head swims, entirely fitting; his paws jam into openings of the cave, almost uncaring in the way he shovels out the herbs that they have so carefully stocked there. Time is of the essence—if he spends too much time carefully folding herbs into one another, he will lose them all. It's better to save messy scraps than nothing at all.

He moves from the back of the den and into the outside world, placing the soaked plants on whatever dry spot is left of camp. He doesn't yet think about how there is no safe camp anymore. That will come later. For the time being, Dimmingsun's world begins and ends with simply the medicine cat den. Vaguely, he hears Meadowpaw ushering the patients out, and Yewkit's usually quiet voice rising above the sloshing of the water.

Absurd. Absurd. Absurd!

Dimmingsun's frustration stops him from working efficiently. Control slips through his paws—like water, for that's all there is. Nothing else but the muddy liquid, reflecting the roof of the den that it is actively destroying.
"It's getting too deep,"
he grunts around another mouthful of herbs, eye flicking to Meadowpaw. He knows she hates that part of herself- the lack of a leg, the thing that she tries desperately to hide. Dimmingsun cannot ignore it for her sake right now. If she stumbles now...
"You might have to get out. Now."

His gaze lands on Yewkit next.
"Out."
He's barely able to hold his voice together, afraid that raising it too much may frighten the kit... but even that is better than getting her stuck in the current.

Dread threatens to knock Dimmingsun off his paws. Realization hits him then; and when he turns his head over his shoulder, his fear comes true. It's foolish—his focus is suddenly stuck on a nest, a damned nest, floating away on the water and coming apart. The world seems to crawl to a halt for a moment, allowing him a split second to decide. Gladebloom's nest would never again hold her scent, for the water makes it vanish without a trace... and the nest would never heal a cat, unlike the precious herbs that are scattering around him now.

But Meadowpaw.

Oh, she would be devastated.

Cursing himself for his sudden bout of sentimentalism, Dimmingsun dives into the water without a care in the world. He launches himself, gasping when the coldness sprays around him and seeps into his bones, but at least he knows that he is large enough for his feet to find the ground later. Right now, he just needs to get that stupid nest before it gets swept away... and he tries so hard. One of his front legs is outstretched, enough to make him swear he has just pulled something loose. His paw lands on it and sends another large splash throughout the den, but at least he's gotten what he's wanted- right?
"No!"

Dimmingsun flails, no doubt looking absolutely miserable, and finds his footing. One large paw retracts and holds his catch out—only for half of it to come with him. The state of it is terrible. Anger builds within him, directed entirely on himself. He has prioritized a nest over herbs... and he failed to do even that correctly.

Rolled a 3... saved parts of Gladebloom's nest. </3

Silentstep, 36 moons || Windclan || Tunneler
A fawn tabby with brown and white speckles.
She has a friendly demeanor, yet overshadowed with oddity.

Tagging - person here

A familiar tabby quickly ran inside the medicine den with anxious paws. Her ears deafened by the sounds of the rushing waters that began to pull her. But, she stood her ground and trudged forward, the sloshing liquid. Her voiding eyes flick nervously, watching as some herbs pass her, floating out and into camp to who knows where. It was...so deep. Silentsteps mind began to panic seeing everything around her... Though she managed to silence it, for now. Though the quiet voice still rung in her mind...

Everything was flooding. Everything was floating away into the unknown.

Watching as the medicine cat, Meadowpaw, reach for the herbs upon the higher shelves. Silentstep took action and moved forward. Wading through the waters, slowly but surely making it to where Meadow is. Within a splash, she too jolted up toward the shelves and frantically grasped whatever herbs she could cram within her jaw.

Now with the supplies needed, Silentsteps head snaps toward Dimmingsun, catching the faint words.. The water is rising..!
She snapped her focus down to the water, realizing, it's a different level than it was when she had previously arrived in here.
Without thinking too much of it, Silentstep spilled her words out in frantic toward Meadowpaw. " Youf go...! I canfh try toh girt the rest..!" It was a little bit difficult to talk, due to the herbs that made her voice muffled, but hopefully the message still made sense.

Talon woke up with a startle as Dimmingsun roared him to life, his body frantically responding as he stood up from his nest, already starting to get wet at the edges. How had he not woken up? Talon moved quickly, tail lashing behind him as he moved quickly. "Morningpaw, wake up. We gotta move!" He hissed, pushing a paw against her shoulder before blue eye moved to meadowpaw, pupil slitting. "Get out, I'll help here."

Right. The herbs.

He'd move for the most important, the Heather, the marigold- flowers dangled from his jaws as he grabbed what he recognized, and a leaf to bundle some seeds. Strings of sentences from Dimmingsuns and Meadowpaws words filled his head. Seeing them use it for injuries, for wounds, they needed it. He'd cram his mouth before turning to meadowpaw, feeling the water push against his belly.

"Meadowpaw-" he said through gritted teeth, trying not to crush the flowers- And to say he wasn't scared, well it would be a lie. But he was desperate to get everyone he cared about safe, something he wouldn't want to admit either. His head flicked to the side, before he heard Dimmingsun flail desperately for a nest that seemed to rip in half, and slowly.. Talonpaws eye widens.

Cricketpaw knew the weather was awful. She knew it didn't help any of them. The camp wasn't sheltered well enough, but it was home all they had left after everything. So, like she often did, she had snuck into the medicine den, curling tightly beside her sister's nest, comforted by the soft scent of herbs and Meadowpaw's nearness. Sleep had come easily despite the storm's roar outside. She didn't notice when the water began to rise. Didn't feel it until it lapped cold against her side, until she heard the cry... Her sister's voice, sharp and panicked... Then, Cricketpaw near choked on the flood that rushed into her mouth. She jolted awake with a sputtering gasp, heart hammering.

Water. Water everywhere.

Her good eye went wide as she tried to take it all in, body trembling. The storm had broken through to camp. It was flooding, their home was flooding. And for a fleeting, dizzying heartbeat, it felt like fire again. The barn. The smoke. The helplessness.

" No, no, no...!!! " she gasped, shaking her head hard, fur plastered to her body as she forced herself to move. She could hear Meadowpaw and Dimmingsun shouting through the storm. The scent of crushed herbs filled the air, sharp and bitter under the water's sting.

The herbs!

A strangled cry tore from her throat as she lurched toward the stores, water dragging at her paws. [color=palegreen" I can get them! I can get them! "[/color] she mumbled around a mouthful of stems, voice cracking. She managed to grab a few bundles, clutching them desperately between her teeth, but the current pulled at her legs, and she slipped, the precious herbs scattering into the churning water.

" No! " she cried, anguish ripping through her. Her sister needed those! Meadowpaw needed them! Blue eye wide and wet with tears and stormwater alike, Cricketpaw spun, staring at the ruined den and the herbs still clinging stubbornly to the shelves. She knew she needed to get out, knew the water was rising too fast... But if she just tried one more time, she could save a few more... right?

MEADOWPAW

She nearly drops everything when Yewkit's mew billows through the tunnel, the frail sound swallowed by the roar of water. For a heartbeat, relief surges through her at the sight of the little tabby, but it's crushed almost instantly by fear. "You shouldn't be in here!" Worry constricts her throat, turning it shrill.

Meadowpaw knows Yewkit only wants to help. She's already snatching herbs up in her tiny teeth, paws splashing as she wades dangerously into deeper waters. The water is up to Meadowpaw's belly and it's rising fast—faster than what should've been possible—threatening to sweep away more than just herbs. The entire den will be flooded soon. Dimmingsun knows as much too. The usually laid-back tom looks more serious than she's ever seen him. When he turns to them, his voice is like a heavy stone dropped into an overflowing bucket.

Another decision. Another choice. To call it overwhelming would be too small for what churns inside. The feeling is like being swept off her paws, carried off by a current too wild for her to fight. She's felt it before, knows what comes next. Her breaths turn labored and desperate. But she fights it with all she has. If it takes her now, she will splinter on the rocks like a piece of driftwood, and others will surely chase.

Forget the water, the den, the herbs. She takes a steadying breath and tries to keep her eyes on what's important. "Talon, take her!" As she speaks, a few leaves slip from her jaws and vanish into the filthy, rushing water. There's no time to argue, no time to weigh who should do what. Yewkit's heart is in the right place, but she's too young to make these kinds of choices. She has to live. Meadowpaw will make sure she does, come fire or high water.

Meadowpaw surges forward, whiskers brushing Talon's as she grabs a few leaves hanging from his mouth. As she pulls away, her eyes plead where her mouth cannot.

If he's going to argue, he can save it for after. They need to get to safety first. A muffled sound seeps through her teeth, punctuated by a fierce jerk of her head toward the waterfalling entrance.

// -2 herb and uhhh she totally won't drop ALL of them next turn. @Talon @Yewkit

The medicine cat's den is filling up fast, faster than Yewkit could have predicted - soon, she won't be able to hold her ground. Which is why she doesn't protest when both Dimmingsun and Meadowpaw order her to leave. She only wanted to help, and staying now, it would only cause more problems.

She grabs all the herbs her little body has managed to stop from flowing away in her mouth, careful not to crush anything, but strong enough to not let go, and she waddles over to Talon. She knows it was foolish to come in here, but she hopes the herbs she fished out of the water are going to be worth it. They have to be...she can't disappoint Meadowpaw too - Yewkit is sure mother will have something to say about her little runaway. Or worse yet, nothing at all. That was a problem for later though. Right now all that mattered was getting out.

She lets Talon pick her up, holding the medicine with all she can, making sure not to squirm too much. Her tail and hind legs still touch the water, but she is out of it for now. Hopefully forever. The grip Talon is holding her with is too strong, painful, but she doesn't protest - she can barely feel her body anyway. She lets herself be carried away and out of the tunnel, the only sensation her little heart beating fast.

Thud

Thud-thud

Thud

The rain hits her hard and sharp, the quick raindrops stinging her pelt and jolting her eyes open. She didn't even realise she had closed them. She is quickly placed on higher ground, where water hasn't reached yet, and given to another warrior.

She doesn't protest as she's handed from mouth to mouth, as she's placed on the stone, clanmates rushing all around her. Someone grooms her pelt, warming her up, but she doesn't open her eyes anymore. She holds the medicine herbs close to her body, shivering, but glad to have saved them. Everything else she can worry about later, for now she is tired.. so tired.. Yewkit slowly loses consciousness, her paws numb and cold, her body curled around the precious herbs.

You're important to me.

Cricketpaw knew this. She knew it in her bones, in every look, every word, every touch from her sister. Meadowpaw had always treated her like she mattered, like she was worth something. But now as the world drowned around her, all Cricketpaw could think about was keeping the things that mattered to Meadowpaw safe. The herbs. The lifeblood of the medicine den. The things that healed others when she couldn't. They couldn't be lost. She could hear the storm screaming outside, the sky weeping so hard it tore their home apart. Why? Why now, when WindClan had already lost so much? Why did the stars send fire to take her parents, only to send water to take what was left?

Her paws slipped, her body plunged under the freezing current before she gasped and forced herself back up, chest burning. Water stung her eyes as she groped for the bundles she'd dropped and the ones she was determined to save too, she shoved pawfuls of herbs into her mouth and refused to let go. She wouldn't lose them. Not when Meadowpaw needed them. She thought she saw movement, Silentstep, maybe, another shadow struggling in the chaos, but she had no breath to call out. Her small frame trembled against the current as she pushed forward, dragging herself toward where she thought the den's entrance might be. But the water wanted her. It pulled at her fur, her legs, her tail. It was stronger than her, heavier than fire, colder than grief.

Still, she didn't let go.

Even as the water filled her mouth, even as her lungs burned and her head dipped under again, she clung to what she'd saved, the herbs, the pieces of Meadowpaw's world. Because losing them felt like losing her sister. Their home was being destroyed once more. Not by fire, but by the water that once saved them from it. And as she fought to breathe, a broken thought flickered through her chest, how cruel the stars were, to let both burn and drown.

Successfully snatching a few herbs off the higher shelves of the den, Silentstep quickly darts her focus over to a few who have started their way out of here. Good... It was all her mind could muster a thought of before a wave suddenly clashed her body, devouring her for a brief second. She rises her head up, and gasped for any air she could snatch, despite the herbs within her jaw. Her muscles ached, screaming at her to join the others, and get out of here. But... Silentstep was determined to grab just a few more herbs.

Until...
Her ears captured the sounds of a splash. Silentstep flicks her attention away from the herbs to seeing another apprentice, Cricketpaw, who was barely keeping her head above the water...

Eyes widened in realization, she dropped the herbs that were once crammed within the she-cat's jaw, to immediately plummeting into the rising water. And surged forward to them, bracing through the powerful currents that were thrown against her. Without a moment to think, She quickly dove head-first into the murky current after Cricketpaw. Opening her jaw to firmly latch onto her scruff as tight as she could before coming up to the surface. Once reaching, Silentstep let out a muffled heave to hopefully gather another form of air to her lungs... And soon, despite her aching muscles, she moves forward to the entrance in hopes to find the higher ground.

Part of her felt horrible having to leave those herbs behind... But, a cats' life was way important than just some herbs.
