R A I N
what a shame we all became
Rain stood from her nest with a long, tail-vibrating stretch. She'd been struck with sudden inspiration. The kits were sound asleep, for the moment enjoying their midday nap. She was sure her movement would stir at least one of them, though. Gently using her claws, she grabbed a piece of moss that dangled from the edge of their bedding and rolled it under her paw until it formed a sturdy ball. A mossball.
She'd seen some of the older kits and apprentices play a game called "mossball," and while she didn't exactly understand the rules, she was very into it. The celebration the night before had inspired her so much, showed her how much there still was to learn about clan life. So, she figured, two birds, one mossball. Learn a clan tradition, and spend time with more of her clanmates.
But how to make it fair to the young kits, who would surely want to join in? She peered down at her four perfect little bundles, a sight that still made her chest feel like it would burst. She'd figure something out.
Carrying her ball out into the clearing, she placed it down and looked around to the cats milling about camp. It seemed to be mostly caretakers and their kits. A few warriors and apprentices. She cleared her throat, suddenly feeling self-conscious. What if no one wanted to play with her? She was practically a stranger to most of these cats. She shook her head. They would always be strangers if she didn't do anything about it. Forcing as much confidence as she could, she raised her voice in a friendly challenge:
"Anyone brave enough to challenge me to a game of Mossball? Also recruiting some teammates,"
she added with a small smile.-
