QUAILSTEP
Quailstep felt her ears heat up at the compliment, and she buried her nose under a paw in embarrassment. They'd never considered herself "pretty," but it sounded so nice coming from Rain. A genuine compliment, not just being said for the sake of it. It was kind of her.

Thankfully, the subject was changed to something mundane just as quickly as it had shifted into the two cats discussing their love lives. Quailstep ignored the memory of her absolutely bungled patrol with Hawkstar and purred at the thought.

"I'd say I'm good enough at catching them," she mewed. "Once you've got your kits born, and enough time or energy, I'll take you out for some practice, huh?"

what a shame we all became

Rain purred, nodding.
"I would love that,"
she grinned.
"I hardly even got to see the territory, I was so exhausted when I first got here. All I really know is camp. A strong Sun Guard to show me around and teach me would be very helpful."
She butted her head gently against Quailstep's shoulder.

She wasn't usually one to ask for help. She'd rationalized finding the clans as a new lifestyle, not that she was necessarily looking for help from them. It had been incredibly humbling for her to accept the kindness she'd received thus far. But something about Quailstep helping her learn the hunt birds, showing her around their territory... It didn't sound like asking for help. It sounded fun. She was flattered that Quailstep had offered, and grateful that she had found such a fast friend.

QUAILSTEP
Hearing someone else refer to her with her new title still felt strange. Good, but... odd. And the way Rain said it, so earnestly, was enough to make her ears heat up even more.

"O-oh," she stammered. "Well, I wouldn't say I'm particularly strong," she deflected. "But if you can keep up with my pace, you'll learn the territory in no time." They finished the promise with a friendly wink to top off the joke, purring as they sat together. Her ears pricked at noise out of the den, and she took a leisurely stretch before standing.

"I hope you'll forgive me, but I think that's my next patrol calling out," she mewed. They really had lost track of time chatting, but it was nice to have found a companion in the loner. "I'll come back to check in later - thank you, by the way. For talking to me. It was really nice to get to know you, Rain."
