AND I AM SORRY MY CONSCIENCE CALLED IN SICK AGAIN
______________________________________________________________________
It was raining. Again. Not an uncommon theme in Shadowclan by any means, and most days the deputy wouldn't put off patrols just because cats didn't want to get a little wet. Today wasn't the usual light drizzle or steady shower, though, and Wolfpack wasn't about to land an entire border patrol in Cicadas den because they'd gone out in weather like this.
Besides, it's not like they'd be able to see beyond their whiskers out there anyway. Even the best of them would be walking blind and deaf out there searching for prey that was hiding away or trying to refresh scent marks that would simply wash away in the storm. Nature didn't give a damn about the priorities or needs of anyone else, and Wolfpack knew how to pick his battles.
The deputy had claimed his usual corner in the warriors den, lounging in a nest made by someone else because everyone knew he was a disaster when it came to trying to turn moss into anything other than shredded garbage. His bed was surrounded by trophies and trinkets– the fluffy tail of a raccoon, the glossy feather from the shecat who'd made his nest, a smooth, shiny black stone shaped like a fang-- and he lounged among them like a king on his throne. His favorite was the fox skull, bleached white from moons of cleaning and polishing, brought down by him and Jadethorn. They weren't sentimental things exactly– if they disappeared tomorrow he'd be more pissed about someone touching his stuff than the fact that the items themselves were gone.
They were just trophies. Reminders. Of what he'd done. What he'd survived.
What he was capable of.
The chimera rolled onto his side with a low grunt, a large white paw idly fiddling with the fluffy raccoon tail he was current using as a pillow. Downtime like this was rare, and while Wolfpack enjoyed it as much as the next cat, he couldn't deny the fact that he was restless. Too used to the daily activity and workload Shadowclan left him with to be content laying around all day. You could be that as soon as he saw the first signs of things slowing, he'd be on the first patrol out of here to burn some of that energy.
"I bet Riverclans loving all this rain." he said, to no-one in particular. Whoever might care enough or be bored enough to engage. "I wonder how cold their territory gets come leafbare. Can't imagine it'll be much fun trying to fish with half-frozen paws." he smirked.
Then again, maybe their territory was more like Shadowclans in the winter months– more moderate in climate, only truly cold during the nights. More often than not, any snow that fell during moonhigh was gone in the morning thanks to rainfall and warmer temperatures. Still much cooler by comparison of the other months, but not the bitter, icy experience they'd endured at Fourtrees. Hell, Wolfpack would almost call it pleasant by comparison. It made their current lack of prey all the more confusing and frustrating for the tom, though, unable to understand why it was suddenly gone.
