The tall scout's steps were heavy, uncertain. She knew how to fight, she knew how to protect the clan with her claws and fangs. But how could she protect a little child drenched in blood, when there was nothing tangible threatening it?

All Chrysalisgaze could do was trust her mate and lead them back to camp. The small child hung from Starlingtrail's mouth, quiet for the most part, though Chrysalisgaze couldn't shake the occasional words of the kitten from ringing in her skull. The sun... The scout didn't know what it meant, nor was she sure she wanted to - but the child had witnessed horrors no child should endure, and she had to be strong for its sake.

SkyClan camp came into view and Chrysalisgaze steadied herself before approaching. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes for a moment, before, finally, letting the sounds of her clanmates reach her ears. There would be stares - she knew there would be. What could she even say? The child's coat dried with blood should be answer enough. It was the only answer she could give them anyway, for she had none others. But she would not let them bother the already scared kitten with questions - no, she would be the one enduring them, letting Starlingtrail get the child to the safety of the healer's den where Swallowbreeze would tend to her.

"Alright, Starlingtrail." she spoke softly, so as not to disturb the child. "If anyone has any questions, send them to me. I'll try to... try to answer." The scout smiled at her mate softly, though sorrow reflected in her eyes. "Just get the child to Swallowbreeze." She didn't need to say I trust you, that was a given, reflected in her own actions. The scout tried to give the kitten a reasurring smile as well, though she wasn't sure it even registered her.

One last nod towards her mate and Chrysalisgaze entered camp.

The dried blood that clung to her pelt was beginning to stiffen, she probably looked like a horror in her own right. She couldn't even remember who's blood it was. Mama's? Solaris's? Credence's? Looking back, she wondered if her sister had even survived the onslaught. Those brutes had pulled her ear until it tore like pitiful ribbons, the scars over her face deep and meaningful. Credence almost looked like their father when she started running, all Verity could hope for was that she had managed to find somewhere safe.

The moon was still above, the kit's eyes darting towards it every few seconds as she tried to will the sun to come out. If it didn't, was she being punished? Had mama and Solaris died for nothing?

As her eyes slowly returned forward, she tensed up, seeing where the mollies had brought her. Another gaggle of cats, another family like her father's. She shook slightly, the sound of a loud swallow being caught in her throat clear. She looked around at the numerous faces that turned towards her as she entered the camp, some painted in horror seeing such a small body so coated in viscera. The molly that wasn't carrying her was ahead of them, a sternness to her that Verity could not place. Small eyes darted around to the faces once more, and it almost seemed like the small kitten was out of her trance.

"My... my m-mama..." She mumbled, tears welling in her eyes as she began to grow more lucid --- revealing more of her situation in jumbled pieces, her mind trying to spare her the more gruesome aspects. All she could mutter was, "My mama is g-gone..." Before her pale eyes flooded with tears, crying in the maw of Starlingtrail
