Snowveil could not see the kits she looked after, relying solely on her other senses. It worked well for those who were loud and couldn't keep quiet, but there was one kit who caused her trouble, Downykit. The quiet one. No words ever came from her, leaving Snowveil unnerved and worried. Despite her efforts to connect with the little one, Downykit remained elusive.

She had taken Downykit under her wing ever since the fox attack, a responsibility given to her after Wolfstorm's injury. Snowveil had argued with him fiercely, insisting that now that he was hurt, the kit was safer with her. Wolfstorm, always surrounded by younger cats who looked up to him, hadn't made it easy to separate from the little one.

Clearing her throat, Snowveil rolled the ball gently under her paw. It wasn't a mossball, Cherry had assured her it was a proper ball, one that rolled and sometimes even made sound. Wiggling slightly, she let her ears twitch, trying to pinpoint where Downykit was.

" On... on your left. " Cherry's voice chimed in, but Snowveil bristled slightly, irritated by the interference. " I knew that. " she muttered, then gently batted the ball toward where she sensed Downykit might be.

But my words, like silent raindrops fell

And echoed in the wells of silence

This place was so strange...

It was the biggest den she had ever stepped into, with tall, smooth cliffs on every side, protecting the entire clan from the rage of the storm. It was almost like a cavern, in and of itself, with more cliffs signaling sections that she could only assume were more dens inside the larger one. The stranger that had called them there, dubbed Round-belly in the kit's mind, was kind, at least, judging by his body language. Blue-Wing seemed to trust him and he had a garment wrapped around his own neck that was very similar to hers. Maybe they knew each other? Whatever it was, the kitten would never know with her lack of hearing.

Having been set down by her watcher, the kitten hadn't exactly moved much from that spot. Instead of moving to explore and run off with the others, she stayed where she was, head twisting and turning every which way to take in everything about this new place. There were mountains and spires of brown material, stacked high to the ceiling and many of the more adventurous cats were already starting to climb and explore them, Round-belly being one of them as he seemed to guide her clan around his den.

Looking towards the nearest pile with curious eyes, Downy moved to stand, a paw raised to head in that direction. She wanted to try climbing to!! But the thought sputtered to a stop as something small and slightly cold bumped into her leg. She couldn't help but jolt a little, turning, with fur sticking up, at the object in question that had interrupted her plans. What she found was a strange looking circular object, similar to a moss ball but much more...sturdy, as she found when she prodded it with a curious paw.

Her head lifted from the object to where it came from, seeing her watcher, One-ear, sitting a little away with a twitching tail. Downykit tilted her head at the senior warrior, bewilderment on her features before it quickly faded to excitement. One-ear wanted to play with her!! It was a nice change from the usual demeanor the older had around. She was so different than Sky-eyes. Downykit still remembered the tension that happened between the two after the red beast's attack. She had been there during their argument, mouth flailing and snarling even as no sound came from either of them. One-ear seemed to win that fight, with her usual protector being shooed away by the senior, leaving Downykit to follow along the scarred one's path.

It wasn't like Sky-eyes was kicked from the clan. It just seemed that Downykit couldn't follow so closely behind him anymore. One-ear always seemed to make sure she was near, even moving to carry her if she seemed to lag behind, which was how she was brought into this den from the storm outside. With playful energy filling her limbs, the kitten moved to slap the ball back into One-ears direction before bolting after it. Like the tiny predator she was, the little white kitten pounced onto the rolling ball, jaws coming down in an attempt to chew on the strange material. Her tiny claws didn't seem to find purchase in the plastic, and Downy tumbled onto her side right at One-ear's paws, the ball bouncing further towards the opposite direction it was originally sent.

Kitten blue eyes stared up at the scarred warrior before she was finally able to crack a smile. She pressed her head into One-ear's legs, a light purr rumbling in her chest. She knew the older couldn't see, like how she couldn't hear. Touch was all they really had between them. With the moment of distraction fading, Downykit stumbled back onto her paws and went to retrieve the ball to bring back to the adult that quietly proposed this game.

Snowveil's ears remained perked as she carefully guided the ball, her focus sharp as she listened for the familiar scrabble of a kit playing. It took just a fraction longer than usual, but finally, the sound reached her, Downykit had taken to the ball, just as she'd hoped. Relief washed over Snowveil, and her face softened with affection, a gentle smile playing at her lips. Once they had settled into their new home, she would make sure to keep an ear out for both Wolfstorm and Downykit, ensuring their well-being.

Still, a flicker of concern tugged at her heart. The kit's quiet nature was worrisome. Snowveil was no stranger to silent kits, but the lack of sound from Downykit had her wondering if there was something more she needed to address. Perhaps she'd need to have a quiet conversation with Hawkstar soon.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the familiar jingle of the ball being brought back. Snowveil's ear twitched, a smile creeping onto her face as the kit tumbled after it. However, when the ball rolled away and just out of reach, she frowned. She had stretched her paw to stop it, but it slipped past her claw with a soft thud. Rat dung!

Before she could take another step, a small body pressed against her leg, and a soft purr filled the air. Snowveil's whiskers twitched as she leaned down, the tiny fur tickling over her face as she gently nosed Downykit's cheek. She gave the kit a tender rasp along their ear, her voice soft. " You're a sweet one. " she murmured quietly, the affection in her tone undeniable. As Downykit moved away to chase the ball again, Snowveil listened with a fond smile, her heart lightened by the kit's playful spirit.

Flowercloud was uncomfortable. She didn't care, or even mind Kittypets. Not at all, as they were mostly friendly, and unbothered, but to be here, it reminds her of Crow. Green eyes watched Tigger carefully guide others, plump with weight no one here would ever have. Okay, so maybe it was a bit of envy, but Flowercloud chose the best life for her and her children. She did what she had to do.

She knew if she ate from a bowl of that dry food, she would likely gag, this politely declining as he spilled it open for all to see earlier. Even as her stomach rumbled, she would not eat when there were those hungrier, and more.... Ambitious to fill their stomachs.

The snow storm was a sign, she felt- from Starclan. With Ponypaws sickness, and Lostmoon so close to kitting.... They needed this rest. And as stubborn as Hawkstar was, she needed it too. If it wasn't for Starclan, she'd be -

A ball hit her paw, her gaze blinking her back out of her thoughts as she looked to see Downykit running towards her, and Snowviel not too far away. A gentle smile tugged at her maw as she placed a paw on the ball, holding it in place so that Downykit could properly retrieve it. "Hey there, Downykit," she purred gently, giving up the ball as she approached, before rasping a tongue gently over the others head.

"Make sure to keep snowviel on her toes for me, okay?" She said, loud enough for the older queen to hear, and unaware of the absence of the kits hearing. She'd give up the ball then, uncurling her toes around the odd texture of the ball, before watching carefully the game.

Hawkstar could not help but find the scene before her at least a little charming. Even still, she fought the smile that threatened to touch the corners of her mouth, an uphill battle when little Downykit was involved... or Snowveil... "now, I thought it was my job to keep Snowveil on her toes. A thief, I see,"

She pads closer, the new scar on her neck still raw and stinging from the movement, and Hawkstar holds back a hiss as she crosses from tile to carpet, coming to a halt by the kitten and their chosen toy. She waits with quiet amusement, almost as if she expected some sort of confusion to grace the child's face before she clarified:

"but maybe that means you've learned from the best. If you stay in my pawsteps, love, you'll do great things. The best things, I swear it."
