Snowveil could not see the kits she looked after, relying solely on her other senses. It worked well for those who were loud and couldn't keep quiet, but there was one kit who caused her trouble, Downykit. The quiet one. No words ever came from her, leaving Snowveil unnerved and worried. Despite her efforts to connect with the little one, Downykit remained elusive.
She had taken Downykit under her wing ever since the fox attack, a responsibility given to her after Wolfstorm's injury. Snowveil had argued with him fiercely, insisting that now that he was hurt, the kit was safer with her. Wolfstorm, always surrounded by younger cats who looked up to him, hadn't made it easy to separate from the little one.
Clearing her throat, Snowveil rolled the ball gently under her paw. It wasn't a mossball, Cherry had assured her it was a proper ball, one that rolled and sometimes even made sound. Wiggling slightly, she let her ears twitch, trying to pinpoint where Downykit was.
" On... on your left. " Cherry's voice chimed in, but Snowveil bristled slightly, irritated by the interference. " I knew that. " she muttered, then gently batted the ball toward where she sensed Downykit might be.
