Excited, the young paw trotted eagerly after Fogstare, her good eye sparkling with joy and a wide smile stretched across her face. " And there's beetles down there! Beetles, you see? " she mewed, practically dancing around the older cat as she spoke. " I collect the shells, but only when they've, uh, passed on. I'd never hurt a beetle just to get them, that'd be so mean… " She nodded seriously, then brightened again. " Sometimes you can find shiny rocks too! All sorts of things if you know where to look! Talking about, I need to collect some new ones... I'm missing a lot now because I gave everyone one to protect them... They're like little stars, you see? "

Her step was bouncy, her voice full of delight and energy. " Did you find anything neat down there? Or did you just go for fun? " she asked, glancing up at Fogstare. " Sometimes I like going down just to... listen. To the quiet, y'know? " she added, her voice dipping into something softer, almost shy. " Does that sound weird? I guess you can't really listen to silence, huh? Not really... " She stopped briefly, her whiskers twitching with thought. Blossomtail wasn't with her right now, but Fogstare was. And Fogstare knew tunnels, just like she wanted to. Surely, she could learn something just by being near him.

Her eye lit up again. " What do you like most about going down there? " she asked earnestly, tilting her head, tail tip flicking in anticipation.

Fogstare listened to the chattering apprentice with an amused smile, his slow pace making it easy enough for her to hop and prance around him. He doesn't know where this little cat came from, nor what about him caught her attention, but he didn't really mind. Lazing at camp and having a nice chat? What a good way to spend the day!

Fogstare hummed along, approaching some soft grass where cats usually liked to lay down and relax after a long patrol. It was squished to comfort, and Fogstare wasted no time circling a spot and settling down to comfortably sit. The beetles make my fur stand on end, but let's not ruin her enjoyment of them..

He let out an exaggerated hum as she asked him that final question, enjoying the way her eye glittered curiously and tail flicked. "I think, my favorite thing about being in the tunnels is...." He paused, looking off to the side as he actually wondered what he enjoyed so much about tunneling. So many warriors didn't hide their discomfort or dislike of the tunnels, but he never felt the same way, it always felt.. special. "... How big they are."

He looked back down at Cricketpaw, his own eyes sparkling. "You've been down there, but your mentor can only take you through tunnels deemed safe for apprentices. Wait till you're a warrior and you'll find so much more down there! It's like an adventure without ever leaving home, finding new and bigger tunnel systems to dig through, more rocks and plants than you can imagine!" Ah, maybe that's why I liked her chatter, its so full of excitement for tunneling.

As Cricketpaw finally managed to pry some answers from Fogstare, she let out a cheerful whoop and bounced in place before plopping down beside him. Her good eye sparkled, and her crooked smile stretched wide, proudly flashing her broken tooth like a badge of honor. She knew plenty of warriors loved soaring over the moors, wind whipping through their fur like freedom itself. And that was fair, it was a great feeling! But for her? She liked both... and maybe, just maybe, she loved the tunnels a little more. There was something secretive about them. Mysterious. Like they were whispering old secrets just out of reach. And Fogstare felt the same! Sort of! That made her tail flick with excitement.

" Yes!! " she gasped, practically vibrating. " They're sooo big, right? And you never know what you'll find! " Her voice dropped to a whisper, as if to keep the tunnels' secrets. " Rocks… weird plants… even bones sometimes! " She knew her mentor meant well. Kept her near the surface. Didn't want to lose her in the dark. But she wasn't made of cobwebs and fluff! She wasn't fragile! She was ready for the deep.

When Fogstare spoke of the tunnels as adventure, an adventure without leaving home, Cricketpaw leaned in close, eye wide with awe. That was exactly how she saw it. Then, with a groan, she flopped dramatically against Fogstare's side, limbs sprawled and tail twitching. " Ahhh, Fogstare! I wanna see everything! Six moons is forever! I'm so close, but the stars are making me wait! " she groaned, flopping again for emphasis before settling on her belly. She turned her head and peered up at them with a twinkle in her eye. " Sometimes I hear critters chittering down there, y'know? Like they're talking in a language only tunnels understand… "
