{$title} 101. successfully catch a piece of prey
BRINDLEFEATHER ──
thunderclan | forager
Normally, Brindlefeather isn't one to be out hunting for fresh-kill - he leaves that to the more skilled warriors during Greenleaf, when the prey is bountiful - but, well, it isn't Greenleaf anymore. Brindlefeather has started hearing less birds singing in the trees, and seeing less rodents scurrying across the forest floor. As if that wasn't enough, there's a nip in the air when the sun isn't up, now, a chill that Brindlefeather knows he'll feel in his bones in a matter of moons from now. There's no denying it - Leaf-bare is coming.

As he's making his usual rounds for the territory, eager to grab any interesting plants while they're still surviving the weather, Brindlefeather catches the familiar scent of prey, and in the distance he sees a small chipmunk searching the leaves for food. Ironic, he thinks as he crouches down, stalking forward with silent footfalls and widened eyes. Sorry, little guy. My Clanmates need to eat, too.
Once he's close enough, still carefully hidden from the chipmunk's sight, he pounces with sudden speed and kills it as swiftly as possible. He stares down at it for a few moments, a look of pity in his eyes, and quietly thanks it for its sacrifice before scooping it up in his jaws. With any luck, he might find more prey on the way back, or at least find a pretty flower or two.
maybe we'll turn it all around 'cuz it's not too late

Seafoambelly was usually one to hunt in groups. Especially with some sort of potential predator on the loose, after that poor queen was killed. But she was also one to prefer her own company when the time allowed, and fear wasn't foremost on her mind.

As a Ranger, she excelled at stalking through the undergrowth, hunting down prey over long distances. She'd caught a sparrow earlier, and the bird dangled from her jaw, still warm. Leaf-fall would hopefully prove to be plentiful enough for their Clan.

As she made her way back to camp, her nose picked up the scent of another ThunderClanner - Brindlefeather, a Forager. She supposed with the cooling weather, even the Clan Foragers would go out to hunt in their spare time. She brushed her tail against a bush so as not to frighten their fellow Clanmate upon her approach, and dipped her head as she stepped into the other cat's field of view, query clear in her eyes.

Want some company?

"and this time, she won't be forgiving"
taking the time to go about hunting was a boon; it meant that they wouldn't have to be stuck patrolling the borders for once. with any luck, the chocolate tones of her coat were a great help, blending into the earthy colors of dirt and tree bark and dusty stones. despite the falling of the leaves, she had found success today. and it seems she isn't alone in that good fortune, coming up upon other faces clinging to freshly caught prey.

the leader waves her tail to flag them in greeting, hurrying her strides to join their return towards camp as she clings to a small thrush she'd found at a bad moment in its attempts at takeoff. "A good bounty," she mumbles from her grip on a particualrly frail wing she holds. it would be plenty to feed many hungry bellies and that boded well for other potential hunting parties later today!

Brindlefeather turns at the sounds of rustling leaves, smiling around the rodent between his jaws at the sight of Seafoambelly, with Juniperstar herself not too far behind.
"What a pleasant surprise! Some company would be lovely, thank you both!" He pads over to the two of them quickly, a purr rumbling in his chest. It's always nice to see other warriors when he's out and about in the territory.
"A good bounty indeed," he nods in agreement with Juniperstar. "If this luck keeps up, we'll have a fresh-kill pile as tall as the Highrock!" He chuckles softly, trying to imagine such a thing even as he says it himself. Although it'd been in jest, he can only hope that StarClan would bless ThunderClan with such an occurence in the wake of the struggles they seem to be regularly facing as of late.

She covers the prey she carried, hiding it from other potential predators in these woods. Giving her pelt a shake, she nodded over to Brindlefeather before dipping her head to Juniperstar.

"We can certainly wish for this bounty to continue," she mewed. "But leaf-bare is ever closer. It would be best to not rely on hope." She dropped to the rear of the hunting party, deference given to the other two ThunderClan cats - and especially to her leader.

I SIP A TOAST TO NORMALCY

Magnoliapeak holds her tongue at the way that Brindlefeather almost seems to pity the prey that he's catching. He's already had enough from her jabbing at him playing RiverClan just the other day. And besides, any entertainment value that might have been there is quashed when he comes up with a nice, fat chipmunk. Though she does not say it, she nods in her camaraderie form of approval as she trots to join the other two warriors. Juniperstar hurries back toward camp with a thrush of her own, also acknowledging that the prey is running well for ThunderClan today.

"It's good hunting," she agrees finally, placing her own starling on the ground. Begrudgingly, she decides that she wants to partake in the continued hunt as well. "I wonder if we might be able to catch a rabbit with this luck," she parts her jaws to taste the air, hoping that there might be sign of one nearby "That is... if you are feeling up to it."

Leafpaw wandered over, peering around Magnoliapeak with wide eyes at the sight of all the prey Brindlefeather had brought in and then to Juniperstar's own feathery catch; that was so much prey already and it was not even that late in the day yet. Which meant he might be able to weasel his way out of going on a hunting patrol if he played his cards right. The spotted tom smiles, bushy tail knotted and tangled with bits of sticks and leaves raised high as he padded over with his teeth showing in a grin, "Oh yeah, good bounty!" Whatever that meant-he assumed it meant 'a lot of food' or something similar so he chirped it out himself without much thought, "With so much prey already we probably don't ALL need to go on hunting patrols today, you think? Maybe we can make sure the borders are extra, super secure instead!" He was never on border patrols when the cool stuff happened and it was such a pain, why couldn't he fight any other clan cats in defense of ThunderClan? Leafpaw raised his paws to dance from one to the other in excited impatience to hear if his bold suggestion might be taken into account.
