maremane was once lucille, a loner who found the barn cats with her sister, miley (now tinytail). for as long as the barn was upright, lucille remained a loner, even as part of a group. she tended to hunt for herself and her sister, only providing silently when asked. despite becoming closer to a few cats like merry, she found a way to cut them off, panicking at the idea of vulnerability. a long-rooted belief that she was not meant to stay in one place for long, that her struggle to connect to others, made her begin daydreaming of disappearing to wander the world and be free to leave whatever and whoever she wanted to. coincidentally, the closest she had gotten to turning this idea into reality, the barn set on fire. she escaped and did not circle back to help others which still subconsciously haunts her.
wanting to ensure miley's safety, she reluctantly followed the barn cats to the wider prairie. louie had strong doubts about dusty's rise to power and the naming of windclan, believing her talk with starclan to be smoke-induced delusions. over time, she began to surrender to the new normal. lucille's name was changed to maremane, reasoned for her strong spirit, which she believed she had tricked others into thinking she had. as windclan began to discover they were not the only ones in this land, maremane was granted the title of gale guard. had she really convinced windclan she was someone who could be trusted with any recognition?
