Takes place after the barnfire after StarClan makes contact with Dusty

ʚBLUEBIRDɞ

FIRE, FIRE, BURNING INTO YOUR SOUL

"Where's Jay?" she asked, her voice raspy, unrecognisable. Yet still hers. Then, a correction. "Jaykit.."

Bluebird did not truly understand what plans this StarClan Dusty - Dustystar - spoke of had for them now, but the promise of an afterlife... well she could not afford to risk it. Not anymore. She knew she was dying and she knew she was dying soon - if she would not simply fade away into nothingness, but was to reside in a place to watch over her family? Well, who was she to not grasp at that chance?

Her mother soothed her, but Bluebird saw her tear soaked cheeks, the redness around her eyes a constant. And there was nothing she could do to fix it.

All she could do was listen to the discussions about future plans, knowing she was not to witness any of them - not from amongst them at least. Maybe, maybe if she believed enough, she could join this StarClan and watch her family and friends, watch this band of cats that she called home grow.

Somebody touched her head, licked her incurable wounds, probably her momma Cuckoo, for Jaykit had been avoiding her. Why, she could not say. Maybe she looked even worse than she felt, but her eyes stayed shut for the most part, unable or unwilling to open them. Which of the two did not really matter to her. But there was one thing she needed to say, needed her mother and anyone close enough to hear.

"If this... StarClan must take me..." the words took a lot of effort to get out, through burned lungs and charred lips. "Then... then let me accept their name..." She took a breath, longer than she intended, but she had no will to worry about such things anymore. The silence stretched on as she gathered the strength, and finally she spoke again, quietly as the breeze. "Let them... take me as Bluebirdkit."
