Pikestar was dreading this meeting, but it needs to happen. I know it does. All he could do was stare at the stump where he held RiverClan's Meetings for moons now. It was less daunting than when he first started, but he can't help but feel uneasy this time. How would the clan react? Would they be thrown into panic? Would they start hissing at him? Or would they all stare at him in vitriol for the truth they've been denied for so long? The only comfort he has is in knowing that by the end of this… He will not be alone. That's right. I did everything on my own back then. This time, I'll still have them. We may have lost some, but it's better than being all alone. We've spoken about this. We will make due with what we have for now. Everything will work out. I must have faith.

The eyes of the council and especially Frostmoth most of all sear into his back. They are waiting for him to begin. He can run from his duty and has in the past, but he can't run from them. Each and everyone of them placed their trust in him. Not that he could suddenly turn RiverClan around into paradise, but that he would keep his word. I don't want us to go back. You.. All of you can still hate me for what I've done and said. I know I was terrible to all of you. He recalls the anger from each and every one of them when he spoke foolishly during that dreaded council meeting. The image of Adderfang looking at his throat wormed its way within his mind.

His paws move forward. He refused to allow himself to wallow in despair over the what ifs. What kind of leader was he to go back on his wish? Already some have gathered below the stump, while others have begun to rush over. It was a bit strange. He hadn't said anything, and yet… The clan still gathered. It felt wrong. He was still very much the child king Pineheart referred to him as. Nevertheless, it did little good to let such thoughts eat away at him.

"Riverclan, I have many important things to discuss."
He looks for two apprentices among the crowd. It is rather strange that despite everything, Thunderpaw and Galepaw refused to be near one another. The news will be devastating. It pains him to give them this news, but it has been days since Rainpaw's disappearance. They've sent countless patrols and any leads have gone cold. It would be a miracle if they found Rainpaw at this point.
"The first thing I would like to discuss is our clan's missing apprentice Rainpaw. We have sent countless patrols and scoured our territory thoroughly. Unfortunately, we have been unsuccessful in our efforts. It's been more than a couple sunrises since she disappeared. Her scent is long gone by now and any tracks she may have left could've been washed away by the rain. It pains me to say this, but we are going to lessen our search patrols to only one. This patrol will search until Leafbare. If she isn't found then… Our search for her will cease entirely."

It was a reasonable order, right? Maybe Frostmoth and a few others would be against the idea since there have been plenty of sunrises since they've seen the medicine cat apprentice. Having search patrols would hinder the clan's survival for Leafbare, when prey was scarce. However, it was just one patrol. As for the others who cared for Rainpaw, perhaps they were unhappy with this order. After all, she was a respected member of the clan. She aided Jinglemoon in caring for the clan. Many would feel enraged at the clan's readiness to give up on her.

Green eyes meet the cold blue of Thunderpaw's eyes.
"I believe Rainpaw is still alive, and I hope one day she returns to us safely. In the meantime, the clan should prepare for Leafbare. It wouldn't be any good if Rainpaw returned with our clan in shambles."

His gaze returns to the crowd below him.
"The second thing I would like to discuss is RiverClan's council."
It's time.
"Pineheart, Pigeonpearl, and Peachtrot have decided to step down from their position as Life Guards."
Already he can witness the confusion among the crowd, along with faint chatter. He has no doubt they are now considering what that means.
"I have spoken to each of them and support their reasons for stepping down."
He turns to look at the three of them. His heart aches. Even though he had accepted their own reasons for leaving the council, it didn't erase his own feelings. After all, they were the founders of this clan and shaped it to what it was today. He wouldn't be here… No, we wouldn't be here if it weren't for them.

"Even though they will no longer be Life Guards I want to thank them for their time."
It wouldn't surprise him if Frostmoth snapped his head in his direction. This was not part of what they discussed. He has an inkling that the deputy will reprimand him for this. Some older warriors in the crowd may call it unprofessional. Frankly, he didn't care.

He turns to Pineheart.
"Pineheart for his endless guidance and patience towards me. I know I made things difficult for him more than once. Even though we may have not seen eye to eye, he still listened and carried out his duties. I've seen how his steady paw helped put the clan at ease. A reliable tom throughout it all, and I know he will continue to help this clan. No matter what rank he holds, I believe in him."
There is so much to be said to the older tom. It lingers on his tongue, but he knows that Pineheart is a man of action. Words meant little to him. The best way he could thank the hulking tom was to graduate from boy to man. One day he'll become a proper king.

Next, he turns to Pigeonpearl.
"Pigeonpearl for her insights, especially when it comes to understanding someone may not have the best intentions. I know we butted heads here and there, but I have always valued your stubbornness. I'm sorry if I made you think otherwise. I may have hated it when you called me out for my insincerity and foolishness, but I know that it was done for the good of the clan. Even though you've decided on this new journey, I believe you'll continue to help this clan in ways you may not see."
He does not elaborate what this new journey is, for it is not his to share. They have made up some time ago, and yet he can't help but feel a little sad. In order to gain her friendship, he would lose her. I hope you fulfill your dream.

Finally, he would cast his attention to Peachtrot. Her request had been a shock, and to be honest… He didn't want to go through with it. Even now. She could probably see the grief behind his eyes. The reason for her departure from the team was because of him. Of his failure to speak with her honestly.
"Peachtrot. I am thankful for your kindness towards others. No matter what happens you will always lend an ear for someone to talk to. You've lent me your ears many times and I've made wiser decisions with a clearer mind. You also spread joy within our clan. Even when times are hard, you have the ability to make cats laugh. I also believe you'll help Riverclan in the future, in your own way."
Like Pigeonpearl, she too had a journey of her own. He was not sad. No, he was filled with regret. If only he had said something sooner. It never crossed his mind that he'd been hurting her in the process.

It's with a heavy heart that he turns his attention to the crowd.
"I encourage you all to show your appreciation to Pineheart, Pigeonpearl, and Peachtrot. They are founders of this clan and were the very first Life Guards of this clan."

A beat.

"I'm sure you've all realized by now that this leaves very few of us in the council. Frostmoth, Russetfall, Jinglemoon, and I are aware of this and the strain it will cause this clan. That's why we've decided to open our ranks once more. Currently, we are not appointing anyone new to the Life Guard position. However, we will be keeping an eye out for warriors who show promise. That is all on the matter of RiverClan's council."

This meeting has gone on for quite some time now. He's sure some cats are already praying for it to be over. However, he does have one final thing to take care of. I was saving it for the end, so we end on a more lighthearted note.

"The last announcement for this meeting will be mentor assignments."
Frostmoth chewed me out for not having a mentor for Twigpaw. I swear I had everyone. Guess some stuff does slip by when things get busy. He looks to Twigpaw and beckons her forward with a paw.
"I am sorry that I failed to assign you a mentor, but today you will have one. They are a warrior who will give you the attention you deserve. I have confidence that they will teach you well. Your mentor will be Pebbledream."
He hopes the two are pleased with this pairing. Pebbledream may follow a strict regiment that could take some adjustment, but he has confidence it is what Twigpaw would enjoy after training all by themselves.

Pikestar watches as the apprentice runs off to their new mentor. A smile curls from his lips. It does not diminish as he looks for Sunpaw in the crowd. Like Twigpaw, he motions for them to come forward.
"You will be assigned a mentor too. Your mentor will be Guppysplash. She's quite the weaver and I'm sure she'll be happy to share those skills with you."

That takes care of everything. I think. If I'm missing anything it'll have to be done at the next meeting… This meeting has gone on long enough. His attention returns to the rest of the clan.
"That's all for this meeting! Thank you for staying and listening."
  • Heya RiverClan! I know this post is extremely long, which is why it was made with a scrollbar! In this meeting we do over a bunch of things as well two ceremonies. Below will be a summary of what was went over along with some other news! Don't worry, an announcement post will be made in RiverClan announcements in Discord as well.

    DEMOTIONS:
    — Pineheart (stepped down)
    — Pigeonpearl (stepped down)
    — Peachtrot (stepped down)
    — Rainpaw (disappeared, a singular search patrol will continue to look for her until Leafbare)

    MENTOR/APPRENTICE PAIRINGS:
    @twigpaw! with @pebbledream.
    — sunpaw with @Guppysplash

Other big news is that a RiverClan Mass Adopts will drop soon! It's either already up by the time I've posted this meeting or will be posted shortly! Along with RiverClan's Mass adopts there will be fall event. It will also be posted in the ooc board of Riverclan, and will also be announced! Along with these two thread will be a s/HP consent thread will drop. RiverClan is looking for members to add to the council and will be looking for promising warriors to add to their ranks. Specifics will be outlined in that s/HP consent thread! There will also be an announcement for this. In short we got a lot going on for RiverClan!!! ANYHOW.

Even though Pike yapped about his former council mates, I want to express my thanks and gratitude towards Teddy (pineheart), Chuff (pigeonpearl), Taru (peachtrot), and Fern (rainpaw) for being a part of the team! I remember when did dice rolls for who would be on the very first team and how exciting it to see in real time who would be selected. I had no idea who would be apart of Riverclan's first council ever and when you all were picked I started thinking of so many ways how the group would mesh and where conflict would arise. The thread I love most for the council would be its very first council meeting! Even though it was actually the worst one ever for our battle cats. It was amazing to see the love and care everyone had for the clan (both ic/ooc wise). I am going to miss you all terribly on the team, but I know we will continue to plot with one another. It's been such a joy having you all be part of the first RiverClan council <3

That being said... RiverClams go forth and invade their channels!!!

PEBBLEDREAM ──
riverclan | warrior
Pebbledream, like usual, is among the first to gather within the RiverClan camp to listen to their leader speak. They sit with pricked ears that are swiveled in Pikestar's direction, drinking in his words as if they are law - and to Pebbledream, they are.

Pikestar gets to the first order of business, a grave announcement that Pebbledream can tell he has dreaded to give. Rainpaw. It seems that the search will slow, and eventually come to a halt if the young cat is not found. Of course, Pebbledream agrees with this decision - with leaf-bare on the horizon, all efforts should be shifted towards survival of the Clan - but they can't help but glance at Thunderpaw and Galepaw with a glint of worry in their eyes. It must be devastating news to them… Pebbledream has a feeling all of the searching will end in disappointment after all, and when they look back to Pikestar, their whiskers droop slightly.

The next announcement, however, is one that Pebbledream had hardly expected. Three of the council members, all stepping down at once? Had something happened? Pebbledream hears murmurs and whispers amongst the Clan, and they realize they must not be the only one who is confused; regardless, they trust that Pikestar knows what he is doing in allowing this to happen - perhaps, for reasons unknown, this is what's best for RiverClan going forward. Pebbledream looks to the now former Life Guards with admiration and respect as each of them are honored for the work they've done as council members.
"Currently, we are not appointing anyone new to the Life Guard position. However, we will be keeping an eye out for warriors who show promise."
Oh? Pebbledream, without thinking, sits up straighter as they hear these words. They had assumed that Pikestar had been about to assign new replacements, but instead, he will take time to watch over his warriors and decide who best to promote. Which means, by extension… Pebbledream has a rare opportunity to prove themself worthy of a rank even higher than that of a warrior.

Little did they know, the excitement was not yet over for them. When Pikestar calls on Twigpaw to come forward, he names none other than Pebbledream as her mentor. Their eyes widen for a moment, but when they rise to their paws they all but march to their new apprentice to touch noses with her. Even through their stoic demeanor, they are practically bursting with pride. If Pikestar thinks them worthy of mentoring an apprentice, perhaps they have a shot at a Life Guard position after all. What a perfect opportunity to prove themself and to give back to the Clan that has saved them.
"I will train this apprentice to become a strong and capable warrior," they promise Pikestar. "You have my word."

Frostmoth's cool blue gaze lands squarely on Pikestar, watching silently among the warriors. Though he knows that his iciness is what reaches the leader the deepest. He takes his place among his clanmates, sitting beside Jinglemoon in some silent gesture of solidarity toward the medicine cat who had freshly lost his apprentice. He nearly thinks to touch his tail to his flank at the mention of Rainpaw, but withholds. Jinglemoon has probably had enough of the sympathies. No matter how jovial one is, they can feel fatigue all the same. He nods in sharp agreement with the command that they would be patrolling more; it would be beneficial to be canvassing the territory more anyhow. They could gather herbs and terrestrial prey in the meantime while strengthening their borders. He took no qualms with this assertion.

He feels himself deflate a little at the mention of the departing members of the council. Although the four remaining cats are a strong and collaborative group, it does not leave much wiggle room for disagreement among them. Frostmoth crinkles his nose in thought for a moment, wondering if Pikestar will feel more like a stumbling fawn without a large council to lean on. Though the thought is gone as soon as its come. He turns to look for each RiverClanner in the crowd. Pineheart and his assured fatherliness, Pigeonpearl and her strict stubbornness, and Peachtrot and her uninhibited kindness. They would all be sorely missed, but he knows as well as Pikestar that there is no other way for RiverClan to move now than forward.

The meeting ends on the note of apprentice ceremonies, to which Frostmoth raises his voice in cheer with the others, but once the meeting has concluded he does not linger. Frostmoth spares a final glance at Pikestar, and then wordlessly makes his way away from his clanmates.

Guppysplash follows her clanmates towards their leader. There is a certain tension on Pikestar's face she cannot quite place, she tilts her head in confusion as she watches the crowd fill out. There is a grimness to his tone as he speaks of Rainpaw, the medicine cat apprentice who is still missing. She feels her spit claw into her throat, knowing how her family must feel with their child missing --- not to mention the weight Jinglemoon must feel with her missing. Her scent was long gone, and Pikestar has elected to formally stop the search for her. Guppysplash's green eyes move towards the Earth, the silence that falls over her entire clan is palpable. Thunderpaw has a look of anger and disdain towards the choice, but Pikestar assures her that she believes Rainpaw is still alive and may return in time.

Guppy appreciates his enthusiasm, but she feels like a rock is in her throat looking at how torn up the apprentice is. She folds her tail across her paws, not dwelling on it for long before Pikestar continues. Her eyes widen hearing a majority of the council is stepping down, she looks at her clanmates and sees a majority of them seem to feel the same way. There are murmurs, confused glances towards their leader. All that remains of their council is now Pikestar, Frostmoth, Jinglemoon, and Russetfall. Upon hearing they will be looking for suitable warriors, she watches her brothers puff out their chests proudly --- expecting to be the next ones chosen. She knows she won't be, she's hardly a warrior after all. Why would she be trusted with anything in the clan?

"Guppysplash."

She is jerked out of her own thoughts when she hears her name, her brothers are staring at her like she has four heads. She sees the warm eyes of Sunpaw on her, realizing she had been called to be apprentice's mentor. She sees Pebbledream touching noses with Twigpaw, realizing she is expected to do the same. M-me? A-a mentor? She can feel her panic rising. She was hardly trained in her own duties, with her father commenting how she would only ever be a weaver anyway --- and there were days she felt like she wasn't even good at that. She could feel her father's piercing gaze on her flank as she walks up, touching noses with Sunpaw. She feels like her legs may give out at any moment, still baffled as to why she of all the possible mentors was chosen.

"T-thank you, Pikestar!" She swallows hard, staring at the expectant eyes of Sunpaw and feeling a new and massive weight on her shoulders.

JINGLEMOON

RIVERCLAN
MEDICINE CAT
HE/THEY
29 MOONS
DINGO
Jinglemoon had been expecting it with each passing search party that turned up empty but despite this, it still stung when Pikestar started the meeting with the news of that the searches for Rainpaw have been unsuccessful and that they'd be lessening the search efforts. He was grateful for Frostmoth's company noting that the deputy had chosen to sit beside him for this meeting, though he didn't dare look at any cat as Pikestar spoke of his missing apprentice. He couldn't bare to, especially not Galepaw and Thunderpaw. He was sure some cats had probably looked his way but he would not meet their eye when they did, keeping his gaze firmly on his own front paws as his shoulders sagged and his head sunk like a dropped ship anchor. Maybe search efforts would lessen but he knew he would never stop searching until Rainpaw was found, even if the rest of the clan stopped looking, whether that be in life or in StarClan though he desperately hoped for the first, he would find her someday. He had to believe that.

Then came the news of three of their council stepping down from their spots; Pineheart, Pigeonpearl and Peachtrot. Leaving Russetfall the sole Life Guard and the council itself down to just the four of them. His ears drooped and his tail tucked tightly around his frame as though it might bring some sliver of comfort. All three were incredible cats that brought so much to the table, even if they had butted heads at times he knew that the council would not be the same without them but he wanted to respect their decisions too. Back when they had all argued in his den he wished he had of known then that it was going to be one of the last times they were almost all together as a council. He wondered who Frostmoth and Pikestar might pick to be part of their new council now and knew that whichever cats were chosen, they had big paws to fill.

The last part of the meeting announced that Guppysplash and Pebbledream were now mentors of Sunpaw and Twigpaw, the medicine cat is happy for both pairings but finds he doesn't have it in himself to cheer for them alongside his clanmates. Russetfall had told him Rainpaw's disappearance wasn't his fault but he couldn't help but still feel as though it was. His heart felt like it was encased with claws as he watched the new apprentices greet their new mentors and once the meeting was over, like Frostmoth he too would wordlessly leave. Heading outside of camp for now as the medicine den reminded him too much of the old council meeting and Rainpaw too.

Wavesong turned her head the moment she noticed movement from their leader. Her ears pricked forward as she pushed herself to her paws, giving the kits closest to her a soft nuzzle before padding toward the stump to hear all that would be said. She settled near Jinglemoon and Frostmoth, offering the two a small, encouraging nod, well aware of the tiny pawsteps that had pattered after her. Troutkit, ever her little shadow, tucked himself beneath her tail, his wide eyes peering out to watch the meeting unfold.

Her blue hues lifted, a painful twinge echoing through her chest at the mention of Rainpaw. She had searched high and low, as much as her time and duties allowed, yet no trace of the young apprentice had been found, no scent, no sign. Vanished, as if whisked away by unseen paws in the dead of night. The thought made her stomach twist. For a heartbeat, her gaze flicked toward her own shoal of kits, safe and unaware. The search parties would be lessened now... And though she understood the reasoning since leafbare was creeping closer, she couldn't help but hope that every patrol, every wandering paw, would still keep an eye out for the missing child. Her gaze returned to Pikestar, a flicker of respect and resolve in her eyes as he spoke to Thunderpaw, his voice steady with belief that Rainpaw was alive, that she would return home one day. ' StarClan, let it be so...' she prayed silently. ' Let the young one find her way back to the waiting paws of RiverClan... '

When Pikestar spoke next, announcing the resignations of Pineheart, Pigeonpearl, and Peachtrot from the council of Life Guards, Wavesong dipped her head, her expression softening. They had served well, steadfast even through clashes and storms and had done what they believed best for RiverClan. She felt only respect for their dedication. Even though their resignation hurt, she understood it was the way life was, ever changing, like the river... " Bless ye lot fer helpin' RiverClan grow stronger than it was at th'start, fer bein' founders in it all. " she spoke, voice low but heartfelt. Her eyes lingered on each of the former Life Guards, gratitude shining within those endless blue depths. In time, she'd tell the kits stories about them, about the cats who had shaped RiverClan into the clan it was now.

Then came the apprentices' promotions. At Twigpaw's naming and Pebbledream's mentorship, Wavesong let out a joyful whoop. " Congratulations, th'both o' ye! " she cheered, her tail swishing proudly. And when Guppysplash was named mentor to Sunpaw, her purr deepened, voice carrying warmth across the clearing. " An' t'ye too, Guppysplash! Yer gonna do fine, believe in yerself, lass! " she chuckled softly, warmth shining in her eyes as she watched the two newly named mentors, her eyes straying momentarily to find her own apprentice and shooting him a wink. Galepaw was growing into a fine young cat.

As Pikestar dismissed the meeting, she glanced down at Troutkit, who peeked up at her from the safety of her tail, and smiled softly. Leaning down, she brushed her nose to his forehead. " We'll keep swimmin', aye, m'guppy? Always swimmin', never sinkin'. " Her gaze lifted upward for a moment, mind lingering on the young Rainpaw and... For a split second to someone else, someone who in a sense was lost to her too... ' Rainpaw... If ye can hear me, come home soon, little one. Th'river still waits fer ye... '

With that, she turned, gathering her kits close, her tail curling protectively around them as she led them back toward the nursery's warmth, heart full, yet quietly aching for the ones still lost to the current.

Iciclepaw stood quietly as the meeting was called, his wide blue eyes shifting between Pikestar and the others. So much information crashed over him at once, heavy and relentless, like a sudden downpour. His head spun as he tried to process it all. The bad news came first, as always. Rainpaw's search would be cut short, scaled back in favor of usual duties and preparations for Leafbare. Iciclepaw understood the reasoning, but it didn't make the sting any lighter. Where was Rainpaw? What had happened to her? Had twolegs taken her? Hurt her? Stolen her away in the night? No one knew... No one but Rainpaw herself and she could not yet share her story.

He swallowed hard, ears flicking backward as his gaze sought out Jinglemoon. His heart sank at the sight of his expression. The mention of the Life Guards being dismissed, three of them, not all, only deepened his unease. His mother remained part of it, of course, by her own choice. The other stepped down by their own choice, and he knew he had to respect that. Still, he would miss seeing the four of them together. His eyes lingered on Jinglemoon a moment longer, then swept to the remaining Life Guards, noting their reactions to the thanks given to each of them. He knew Pikestar only meant well for the Clan, though sometimes Iciclepaw could not fully understand why things unfolded as they did.

The memory of blood on pristine white fur remained in the back of his mind, a quiet ache that refused to fade. A nightmare that unfolded in front of him and plagued his existence ever since.

When Twigpaw, Sunpaw, Pebbledream, and Guppysplash were recognized, Iciclepaw felt a small flicker of joy and offered a faint, trembling purr in encouragement. Then, almost stealthily, he padded closer to Jinglemoon and Frostmoth, hoping to offer comfort… but by the time he arrived, they had already left. A hesitating pause followed, tail low and ears flicking nervously. Then, finally, Iciclepaw bounded after Jinglemoon, careful to keep his presence quiet and gentle. He would simply be there, a small comfort if he wanted it. He just didn't want to see him so sad... If only there was something he could do to help.
