————————————— Everything must come to an end ✦

With a face knit with a sour expression, the dark pelted molly stalked through the undergrowth with a nose pressed to the ground, just barely able to track the scent of blood with every passing step. How the fuck had she ended up in this forsaken scenario?

It was meant to be easy! It was one simple task the Captain sent her on, yet the world always had another damn idea on hand. But like fuck she had been raised a quitter, so she pushed on ahead, hoping like hell cats bleeding out wasn't a common occurrence in this place and it really was Cardinal she was tracking.

What was once a solitary mission had somehow become her trying to reunite with a travel partner turned tentative friend. While she had learned and been trained that connections were only things to be used against her, it was a cat's nature to seek companionship. And so it seemed Cardinal had become a weakness of hers, for even if she was a pain in the ass on the worst days (including that of them getting seperated nights before following rough weather), she had wholly abandoned her training to reunite with the rosette before continuing on the breadcrumb trail she had for what she had been sent out for.

The tortie breathed the air, cool on her lungs for how terrible the heat had been otherwise, the nights were her preffered time to travel, her coat making the night slip over her shoulders unseen. Though her pelt bristled with the realisation, the scent of cat in the air was strongly muddled. It hadn't been a singular scent now, but like this place was wriddled with them. Enemy bodies who may have the same training as she. While Cardinal had proved to hail from elsewhere without the same training, she had no doubt that any colony of this size wouldn't have training either.

But maybe... Snapdragon let a groan roll from her maw. The possibility that the rosette has sought refuge with these strangers or has even having been taken for questioning by them wasn't easily dismissed. Part of her wondered if she would let the other be, live a life in a colony of its own, considering turning tail and pressing onto their original task, though it seemed the cats of this place had other ideas.

The faintest rustling and pawsteps raised her fur on edge, eyes narrowing as a growl rolled in the back of her throat. "I ain't here for a fight, so don't make me start one." She huffed, standing up straight to look for the gaze of the stranger she was likely trespassing on the territory of. Snapdragon did not fear the challenge of a fight, nor the face of death, but she knew better than to start a fight when she was disadvantaged. "I'm looking for someone, that's all." Her tail brushed the undergrowth, growing antsy as her claws dug into the earth underpaw.

The work of a forager wasn't too bad. He may not have the glory of ambushing and hunting larger prey, but his prowess was in resourcefulness. He could make the most fantastic dens, reinforce the camp, or help the rangers by altering their scent. Today, Gingerflame had gone out to find some berries and perhaps some bedding materials to make softer nests for the medicine cat den. He was under no obligation to make comfy beds for the medicine cat dens, but he found that the better the nest one slept in... The quicker they would recover. However, nests in the medicine cat needed to be changed frequently. It was a bit frustrating to keep up his work, but in a sense he was always busy with something to do.

While he garnered a decent amount of sagebrush and a few strawberries, the faint whiff of something strange reached his nose. It doesn't smell like a fox. Claws unsheathe, as he stays still. The scent is drawing closer and once it's obvious it belongs to a cat, he begins to make his move. It's a little difficult to approach with a mouthful of sagebrush and strawberries, but its his job to check and ensure that Thunderclan's borders are respected. He's only able to catch a quick glance of brown fur before a strawberry falls into the ground below him. Its enough to alert the intruder, who has the nerve to growl at him.

Seeing as there was no point in hiding his presence any longer, he tosses his resources to the side and emerges from the grass. He had not expected such a young cat to say such words. Red eyes look down dismissively, "You should've thought of that before trespassing." While he claws remain unsheathed, the cream tom makes no move to strike. Admittedly, he is a little impressed that the molly in front of him is unafraid. However, he can't help but be reminded of his annoying younger brother when he looks at her. A pain in his rear he was and so was this stranger. A ear flicks at the mention of looking for someone. Thunderclan has only gotten one strange visitor since then. A young cat, perhaps around the same age as this molly who needed to be patched up. She had endured a hawk attack.

"Whatever. I've got more important things to do than fight a kit." More like Juniperstar would be unhappy if I attacked a kit when there are other options. To make his point clear, he waves on of his paws at Snapdragon, claws sheathing. "Next time respect the borders, even if you're looking for someone. Others aren't as... Forgiving. Anyway, who are you looking for? Got a name or general description?" It would make things leagues easier if she had a name. Although, if this was someone's kin... He's sure that Thunderclan would've appreciated a heads up at the very least.

"Others aren't as... forgiving." As if summoned by the phrase, Serpentberry pulls from the brush in a similar manner to Gingerflame, however she maintains the few herbs she's scavenged in her jaws. She looks to the stranger with a curious yet deceivingly unbothered gaze. What use are borders if they're not obeyed? First that boy that Owlbark slaughtered, then that little girl with the hawk-scars. Serpentberry ignores her hypocrisy as she looks towards the tom deigning authority over the situation, allowing him his moment in the spotlight before turning her attention to the youth.

She looked... similarly aged to their newest charge. But the severe lack of talon marks and tears tells Serpentberry that if they were friends, they weren't good at being ones. Her tail sweeps over the ground as she seats herself. Her herbs collect gently to her paws next, and she posits a quiet, "Speak quickly, flame-starter. Others... do love a good brawl," she chirps with a sense of sincerity, eyebrows raised slightly though her eyes remain half lidded.

————————————— Everything must come to an end ✦

Snapdragon had to scoff at the audacity of the tabby to act so high and mighty, calling her a kitten when he seemed barely double her age. With a roll of the eyes behind closed lids, she settled on her haunches as another cat came into view; there really was a colony here, she hadn't been misled. Eyes darting between the tom and the newfound molly into the fray, she recognised plants clamped between her jaws as she watched on.

It didn't particularly want a fight; in all reality, it had been taught the most basic of herb knowledge, but against two grown cats would be a death sentence. It seemed the tom was far more likely to cause a fight and she didn't exactly trust the molly all too much, but in spite of it, the nickname drew a small smile on her maw. She would have to play this carefully.

With a click of the tongue and relaxing her demeanour, finally, she spoke with far less vitriol. "Cardinal, if you've seen her. Rosette molly, green eyes. She was my travelling partner, and we got separated when the weather turned a week or so ago." She stood up, approaching carefully but maintaining some distance for her own sake. "Listen, I came off harsh, but she's all I got and it's not exactly safe to travel alone."

Snapdragon was apprehensive to call Cardinal a friend, but she was the closest thing she had to one and for all she had be raised for, she genuinely did want to hear ill news of the molly, and as much as knit across her face despite trying to stifile as much. "Just... Have you seen her? If you haven't, I'll leave, okay?" It was as much sincerity as she could muster, but it was the honest truth. It didn't want to get into a fight it couldn't win and end up dead before they could finish what they had set out to do.
