what a shame we all became
Rain padded out of the nursery and into the chill of a Leafbare day. It was strange leaving the kits alone with someone other than Starlingtrail, but she supposed it was inevitable. She still couldn't believe her friends' litter were apprentices. And having already reached three moons, her own (mostly Flutterkit) claimed they didn't need a kitsitter anyway (not that she believed them, but she respected their perceived independence). She stretched her limbs in turn and shook out her fur, then set her eyes across camp, looking for one specific face. She'd been waiting for the right day - one when the kits were old enough, the weather fair enough, and the camp quiet enough. Upon waking that day, she knew the time had come.
Her bright gaze landed on a familiar tabby pelt and she felt her heart leap happily in her chest. A grin spread across her face involuntarily as she bounded towards her friend.
"Quailstep!"
Rain purred, pressing her nose to their cheek in greeting. For a split second, she panicked, wondering if she came off too strong to the older warrior, but she pushed the thought aside. She liked to think they were past the awkward formalities part of their friendship - they'd held her while she'd given birth, after all. Still, she wanted to respect her space, if that was what she wanted, so she took a half-step back and sat. "I was wondering if maybe we could do that territory tour today? Try to hunt some birds?"
Her tip of her tail twitched excitedly, but she tried to keep her voice casual, in case she'd misjudged and the Sun Guard didn't have time. Please say yes!
