// backwritten for yesterday

Where had he gone?

Meadowpaw had scoured every corner of camp. Did he slip past her somehow while she was tending the garden that morning? He wasn't with Nutmegpurr. Her sister hadn't seen him either, but they were supposed to train later. Apprentices weren't supposed to leave camp without their mentors or another warrior. Then again, that rule had never stopped Gorsepaw or her.

The mesh of pawprints leading out of camp told her nothing. The damp air and her dulled nose made it near impossible to track, though for a heartbeat, she swore she caught the faintest trace of his scent near the edges of camp.

Maybe she was overreacting. She didn't want to make a big deal of it without cause. Gladebloom's disappearance had rattled her, and everyone knew it. For over a month she begged them to keep sending out the patrol, long after everyone else's hope had thinned of finding anything. If she told them Pebblepaw was missing and he came strolling back unharmed.... but what if he was missing? What if that feeling in her gut was right.

He had wandered out that night looking for Alder. She hadn't wanted him to get in trouble, so she never told anyone. What if he did that again and got lost or worse?

Meadowpaw felt like she was going to cry. She hesitates but settles on approaching the first warriors she sees. She stumbles over her words despite her attempts to keep her voice steady. "H-has anyone seen Pebblepaw? I-I can't find him anywhere!"

Meadowpaw values kindness and remembrance. As a kit, she internalized her mother's lessons, but questioned whether her way is the only way. She has broken free from the heavy burden of her mother's expectations due to their estrangement after the fire. She remains kind and soft-spoken through all she's endured, but is not afraid to speak out for what she believes is right.

Meadow works tirelessly at any task she undertakes, desperate to prove herself capable and worthy despite her disability. Without her mother's guidance, she finds new ways to express herself.

In conversations, she is gentle, thoughtful, and withdrawn, often hiding her struggles, fearing others seeing her as incapable. She continues to have a strong bond not only with her sister, but with her adopted family as well. Meadow uses her new freedom to support and deepen the bonds with her clanmates. Additionally, she has started to explore the more spiritual side of herself…

Her worldview is a complicated mix of hope and frustration. She wants to believe that there's hope at the end of all the suffering, but feels trapped by her limitations. With enough time and support, she may find a way to overcome her limitations and accept herself.

Talonpaw had been uneasy since Meadowpaw had left the den. After a few beats, maybe as not to seem desperate to follow- he did indeed, his paws leading him to push through the barrier of the den. And then he sat, his shoulders stiff as he watched Meadowpaw pace. She circled camp, almost seeming more and more frantic as time passed on. Green eyes looked wet the longer time went on, the less and less of hiding spots of whatever she was looking for becoming clear.

Something she desperately clung to was missing, perhaps. Talonpaw finally pressed forward, listening closer as she approached the warriors- stumbling over someone named Pebblepaw. So that's who she was looking for. The name didn't ring a bell, but many names didn't.

"Meadowpaw." His normal greeting. He pushed close enough with a bit of space next to her form, blue eye watching her, before flicking to the warriors. "Y' need to breathe. Well find this Pebblepaw, an' everythin' will be fine. When's the last time y' seen him?" He asked, his expression blank, unreadable. But there was worry there- deep under the wraps. Whoever this was, it was upsetting to Meadowpaw.
Talon he/him, windclan 8 moons old.
black tabby with dark greyish brown undercoat and white underbelly. white crest on chest, and scars lining left side of face, blinding his right eye. icey blue eyes and white that is slowly starting to streak his features. Back scars non-existent for now.

'Cause I'd get a thousand hugs from ten thousand lightning bugs
As they tried to teach me how to dance
A foxtrot above my head, a sock hop beneath my bed
A disco ball is just hanging by a thread

Her sister's panicked voice made Cricketpaw's fur prickle. In a heartbeat she was moving, paws quick against the earth as she hurried toward Meadowpaw and Talon.

" Pebblepaw? " she echoed, her single bright eye wide with concern. " Is he lost? Did something happen? "

She blinked rapidly, trying to make sense of it, tail twitching with restless energy. " I saw him yesterday... " she added after a moment, frown tugging at her muzzle. " He was being mean and talking all weird. Didn't make any sense at all. "

Her ears tilted forward, determination lighting her expression. " If he's missing, I can help look for him! I'm fast, I can cover ground quick! "

She watched Talon and Meadowpaw for a moment, that determination hardening in her chest. Meadowpaw already carried so much, the loss of Gladebloom still shadowed her eyes, and now this with Pebblepaw... No. She wouldn't let her sister be swallowed by sorrow again. If helping find Pebblepaw could bring even a flicker of a smile back to Meadowpaw's face, she'd do it without a second thought.

" We'll find him, sis! "

A monotone greeting rumbles in her ears. She acknowledges it with an anxious hum, sage colored eyes darting around as if she would find Pebblepaw lurking in the same places she'd already checked ten times.

Far off speech finally pierces through and brings her attention to the bristly tom. There isn't a lick of emotion in Talonpaw's expression or his voice, but it's just that which soothes her frazzled nerves. Nothing felt like it would be alright, but some good her panic was doing. The calico takes air into her lungs and exhales slowly.

Before she can even open her mouth, Cricketpaw answers for her. What she tells them only makes her worry more. "Yesterday as well, and I asked Nutmegpurr if she'd seen him today, but she hadn't." If anyone should know where Pebblepaw was, it was his own mentor. That and her search all but confirmed that he left camp alone. "I'm worried he might've left last night. He... He snuck out once before in the and I followed him. When I caught up to him, he said he was looking for his mama. She died in the barn fire though..." As Meadowpaw says those words, guilt sinks in. Why didn't she tell someone sooner? Could she have prevented what was happening?

Meadowpaw realizes she must have let her thoughts bleed into her expression, because Cricketpaw tries to comfort her. Her sister is a ray of sweetness and energy. Sometimes it can be overwhelming, but right now it brings her mind back into focus. Pebblepaw needed them. "We should ask Goldenroar or Dustystar for a patrol to search for him, but you can ask them, okay?" She wants to believe that there was hope left. That he wouldn't end up a ghost in the wind like Maremane or Gladebloom.
