{$title} Boarpaw is excited for Hopekit to be apprenticed! Hopekit is not.
————————————— The melody sings what the words can't say. ✦

The day was warm, and Boarpaw was already exhausted from hunting that day. It wasn't so hard for him, while he didn't have the most control of his limbs yet like some of the older apprentices when it came to sneaking and pouncing, he found his size to be an asset when he could land a hit on something. He wasn't small like his littermates; he had been mistaken on occasion for seeming older, which he supposed was fair, but still rather strange. Regardless, though, with how much he needed to eat to catch up with how much energy it took to hunt in the warmth of Greenleaf, frankly, Boarpaw was ready for a well-earned catnap.

Until his gaze fell onto his friend, Hopekit. He hadn't grown much, still very small at Boarpaw's side, even though he was only two moons older. But that was still his very dearest friend, and he wasn't readily going to forget the fact that he was going to be apprenticed soon too! Just the thought put a smile on his maw, getting to train with his very best friend sounded wonderful. Though now they thought about it, they hadn't really heard Hope talk all too much about the matter at all.

A curiosity laced Boarpaw's thoughts, outweighting the ache in his paws that begged for sleep. They could sleep any day, but checking in on their friend was a more important matter! So, of course, Boar bound over to Hope's side, looking down at the kitten-soon-apprentice with the characteristic smile that never seemed to be wiped from his face.

"Hiya Hope!" He hummed, headbutting the smaller kitten gently in an affectionate manner. "I justht got back from hunting with Coppersthtorm and I remembered you're gonna get to be an apprenticthe sthoon too!" Boarpaw beamed, excited on behalf of Hopekit, not quite realising he seemed to be the only one of the two really excited about the matter. "Isthn't it excthiting! We can train together, and go hunting and everything!"

Absently, his tail thumped against the ground, his joy never being able to be contained even when he voiced it, his limbs never staying still when he was excited for anything. The apprentice's face crinkled with the smile on his face, sheer pride for the other, making him utterly oblivious to the expression on Hopekit's face.

Hopekit is absentmindedly watching the tree crowns swaying in the wind up above the gorge, birch, oak, aspen… he likes trees. He likes that they are mostly silent, except for when the winds are particularly strong, making them creak and groan in protest. He's just about to begin his other favorite pastime activity– attempting to count the leaves on his favorite aspen, a rather large one growing right in front of the nursery, when he hears large feet hitting the dirt and moving towards him. He looks up and sees Boarpaw, his first and perhaps only friend, coming right up to him and gently headbutting him.

Boarpaw seems very excited about being an apprentice, and somehow even more so about the prospect of Hopekit becoming an apprentice. Hopekit himself is… rather dreading it. He's not sure why exactly, but somehow, he dreads it, and wishes he could stay with his mom and sister for a while longer, maybe forever. The adult world seems too large and sad. The sadness still seems to hang in his mother's fur, and he hasn't been able to get it out, though not for a lack of trying.

He shuffles his feet a little, then, "uhm… yeah," he says quietly, unable to meet his friend's excited gaze, instead taking interest in a patch of dirt between them. "It'll be… fun, I guess…" he shifts his weight back and forth between his paws, getting antsy for entirely different reasons than Boarpaw.

"I'm, uhm, a little nervous, I guess. What if my mentor… is scary…? What if they think I'm… weird, or something… I don't like fighting, and I never really… liked games, and stuff… I've only played moss ball once or twice with Thunderflash, that's it. And I don't talk a lot either, and…" he swallows.

He doesn't want to kill anything, is the thing that sticks in his throat. But he knows how odd that might seem, even for him, so he doesn't voice it.

There's another thing too– a secret wish– that the only mentor he really wants to have is Thunderflash, that he's the only warrior who's tried to understand Hopekit so far, and has made any effort to get him to try and play games and not just left him sitting on the sidelines. But he knows he can't exactly go and ask Juniperstar to make Thunderflash his mentor, even if he might want to. Hence it being a secret.
