Ashen was sneaking around inside of the barn, using his hiding places in the hay so he wouldn't easily get noticed or seen by strangers he was forced to live alongside with his mother. If only it could just be him and her who lived here. How better life would have been then!. Now he had to sneak around like a shadow hunter instead on a watch out for more treasures he could steal and claim for himself. Today however things had been a bit slow. Nobody had yet returned with any prey of interest for the kit, no prey with feathers....It was a bit disappointing and as time kept on passing Ashen's patience was starting to run low. Hmp!. This was so unforgivable to let him wait this long. After having twitched his nose Ashen decided to get himself out from the hay to approach the entrance of the barn closer to see if he could spot anyone out there.

He did not want to approach to close to the opening though so when he got closer the gray spotted kit run himself over to the barns wall for protection. From there he approached slowly the entrance closer until he dared peak his head past the wall to take a look outside. It was just like he rememberd it all the other times he had been brave enough to peak outside. Scary and terrifying. Ashen ears fell back and just when he was about to turn back inside he saw it, a feather well protected by one of the hens. It was white with black spots on it, the exact coloration he lacked having in his feather collection. He wanted it!, he wanted it!. But how?.

The kit's ears perked up and for a brief second it look like he was about to take a step outside, one of his paws even got lifted up in the air but suddenly the kit changed his mind as he took severely steps back instead with a shaking head. Ashen cast a longing look outside again at the feather that was so close yet so far away....unable to step outside he instead laid himself flat down on the barn's floor as he kept on staring outside, at the pretty feather he so badly wanted but was unable to collect. He continues to lay like that, still and unmoving, with only his throat rumbling with frustration. Maybe if he stared long enough it would come to him magically.

Today was one of those rare days when her mother told them to "go get some scapes," which usually meant, get out of my fur and go outside. Meadow didn't argue—she was more than happy to oblige. The barn was warm and safe, but the world outside was where the fun really was. Being a bit older than most of the other kits, Meadow wasn't a stranger to roaming the fields surrounding their home.

If she had her way, she'd venture even farther—past the fences that marked the edge of the fields and into the shadowy woods that beckoned to her from the distance. But Meadow wasn't naive to the danger; her mother had drilled that much into her head after the last time she wandered too far.

When it was cold out there were no interesting plants to be found, most of them swallowed up by the mounds of snow that covered the ground. Still, there was plenty to get up to near the barn: mice to chase, holes to dig, and wide spaces perfect for running until her legs gave out.

She was just about to dash outside and find something to get up to when she noticed a kit near the door. Meadow froze mid-step, her eyes narrowing. The kit stood motionless, staring outside as if frozen solid, cold air was pouring around him. He didn't seem to notice her, so she crept closer until she could peer over him, her paws barely making a sound on the hay-scattered floor. "What are you looking at?" She inquired softly.

Coming up behind was never a good approach as Ashen happened to be an easily frightened kit...Meadow was no exception as The kit almost jumped out from his own skin as he let out a frightened squawk from her suddenly speaking up in his ear, and literally flew up in the air like wings suddenly had grew out from the kit's back.In panic rushed straight into the barn's door head first. Ouch!.

Ashen hissed as he took severely steps back and fell flat on his rump while rubbing his face with a paw. That had hurt, a lot!. Like mega dubbel hurt!.Tear-eyed the sniffling kit cast a angry glare back over at his shoulder to get a good look at whoever had dared to ambush him! with fur standing at no end. " Wh-why did you do that for!?. I could have died." He was being overdramatic of course, but Ashen was dead serious as he glared daggers at Meadow, still rubbing his forehead. He should have them exiled for a murder attempt!. Beside that she had - !!

Ashen eyes suddenly widen as his quickly started to look out again across the gathered place where the hens were, looking for that feather he had been staring so intensively at. " Where is it!, where is it..." he muttered to himself, almost in panic that he might have lost sight of it and all because of that spotted kit....

Meadow recoiled, blinking in surprise as the gray kit suddenly dashed headfirst into the barn door. His face made a big THUMP as it struck the wood which made her shoot a nervous glance back into the dark barn.

If her mama or anyone else heard, they didn't bother to come look.

Well, that was a bit much. She certainly hadn't expected that reaction—she hadn't even been trying to him!

For a moment, she just stared, torn between concern and amusement. Then, despite her best efforts, a giggle bubbled up in her throat. It trickled out, fluttering into the open air in a soft trail of mist. "S-sorry! I wasn't— I wasn't trying to," She managed between muffled breaths.

It was too funny. He couldn't have gotten more than a little bump on the head—hardly anything worth such an outburst. But after thinking on it, she figured she ought to at least ask if he was okay.

Before she could, though, Meadow realized he wasn't even looking at her anymore.

She tilted her head as he rambled to himself, "Where's what?" The calico shuffled forward to poke her nose out the barn door, trying to find whatever it was. Coming up empty, she shot him a confused look.

"What the heck are you looking for?" She asked again, a bit louder. He sure was strange.

WHEN EVERYBODY'S DREAMING MY DREAMS FEEL REPEATED.
Ashen was hardly convinced because if she was sorry she wouldn't be laughting like that!. The kit puffed up his cheeks ready to fire back with a killing blow of words that for sure would put this she-kit into her place but....his attention had already been stolen away by something more important.

He was so busy trying to find his beloved feather again that he barely noticed when Meadow took a place beside him to take a look out of the barn as well in hope to find what he was searching for.
" A feather...."
he only bothered to mumble until - ah! he find it!. Ashen eyes gleamed up when he refound the feather again for a split second thinking he had lost it for good.
" There it is!! there it is!!."
he started to jump up and down at his spot before pointing with a paw at the hen who was standing on top of it now. That was why it had been difficult to find it again. Ashen twitched his whiskers in excitement. He wanted the feather so badly. But how could he get it when he was so far away from it?.

The kit snorted and in defeat slide down to the floor to lay flat on his belly to stare longing at the feather....already forgotten about Meadow and that she was still there. He clearly had his priority straight. The feather the only thing that was importand to think about.

THIS WORLD FEELS SO BIG STILL I - I CAN'T FIT IN.
