Someday I'll find the time to see marigolds bloom

Yewkit sat outside the nursery, watching the snowflakes fall to the ground. It looked peaceful, undisturbed while in the sky, coating the world around her in a white cover. But the kitten dared not jump after the snowflakes, chase them around the camp nor play with them. No, Yewkit sat obediently, making sure not to be in the way, sitting small and quiet.

Her ears twitched at the sound of approaching pawsteps - not to pass by her, but towards her. Light and small, like hers, and she turned her head to see Branchkit approaching her.
"Oh... hello." she spoke softly, quietly. Had she been in the way after all? Is that what the other kitten had come to tell her? She straightened her back and shuffled her paws as she watched him approach, her heart beating in her chest.

The snow continued to fall around her and she wished she could be just as weightless as it, carried by the wind and gravity.

He didn't really talk much to Ivorystorm's kits, even if they were around the same age. The other caretaker scared him a little bit, and her brood tended to keep to themselves it seemed. And not to mention, Ivorystorm was so strict! Momma had her rules of course, but she wasn't over here making Branchkit stay in her line of sight at all times.

What he did know about her kits, however, was that he and Yewkit had a friend in common - Talonpaw. It was as if he and Yewkit were both moons orbiting the apprentice, never truly meeting in a significant way. As he padded to the nursery after visiting their shared friend, he saw the other kit sitting far too still outside the nursery, looking longingly at the expanse of WindClan's camp,

"Hi," he mewed, looking at her curiously. "Is Ivorystorm gonna make you stay like this even when you're an apprentice?" It was blunt, but he couldn't help his curiosity at the whole situation. How long was Yewkit meant to serve a punishment?

At the sound of the other's voice, Yewkit lowered her ears. It wasn't that the punishment was unfair - Yewkit knew she deserved it - but she felt bad about the whole situation, caused by nothing but her own foolishness. And for what?

"No.." she replied. "Mother just needs to keep an eye on me until I'm an apprentice." After that, well... who could tell? The day was approaching fast and Yewkit didn't know what to make of it. What would she do, away from mother? Who would keep her safe? She wished she could stay in the nursery for as long as mother had things to teach her - and only when she deemed her obedient enough, Yewkit would leave.

"But I don't mind." the girl defended the decision. "This way, mother can keep me safe. She can't do that if I'm off somewhere she can't see me..." And why would she want to go anywhere anyway? When she left, she caused a mess - when she stayed with mother, she was content. Safe.

Given everything that had happened during the flood- which was a lot- Goldenroar worried for each individual cat. It was starting to stress him out, really. He swore he was going to start growing gray hairs and he wasn't even that old yet. He does his checks of camp everyday, of course. The apprentices, to make sure their mentors were training them as needed. The elders den, to ensure they didn't need anything extra. Dimmingsun was a brief stop, to ask if he was alright as well.

The snow coming down meant bad things for prey. It's harder to run in, weighing down the grasses- but it meant the birds that normally hid in the grass would be more visible. They wouldn't be feasting, but- Aqua eyes shifted towards Branchkit and Yewkit, a small interruption in his day to day task. A frown finds his face. He didn't bother to push himself into caretaker business. After all, that would get messier quicker then he could handle. But this sounded... a bit out there. "Brachnkit. Yewkit." He meows. "Come here a moment." Ivorystorm won't mind. And if she does, she can take it up with me.

"You both look awful cold sitting still. It's snowing- why not play in it?" Goldenroar questions, tilting his head towards the soft downfall. Cats, for the most part, are huddled up against one another or in the dens where it was warmer, but there were the odd few playing and sparring in it.

Branchkit frowned at Yewkit's response.

"But we're already in WindClan camp," he argued. "We're safe here- even in the flood the other cats protected us!" Before he could argue further, Goldenroar's voice called to the pair. Branchkit perked up and trotted over to the Clan deputy, bumping his head familiarly against the tom's foreleg.

"Well, I would wanna play, but Yewkit's s'posed to stay by her mom, and Talonpaw's still in the medicine den and Lotus is-" he paused, shuffling his paws. Flakes of snow landed on his ears, causing them to twitch.

"What kinda games do you play in the snow?" he asked their deputy.

Yewkit wasn't going to argue with Branchkit, but... even in the flood, the other cats protected us. Yewkit knew better - she had ran away from the nursery, from mother's safety, and had to spend days without her and her siblings. Mother had to endure the same. not knowing if Yewkit was okay. If Yewkit was alive. That was the reason mother did what she did, what she had to do. Branchkit couldn't understand, and that was okay, but Yewkit knew better.

Before she could say any of her thoughts out loud, the deputy approached the pair. Yewkit lowered her ears on instinct - had she been bad? Is that why the deputy had approached her? But it only lasted a moment, until Goldenroar spoke, and she willed herself to relax again. At least as much as she could.

"I don't..." she started to say, then stopped herself. Others have found it strange before that she didn't like playing, and stranger even that she worried abuot making a mess. Would Goldenroar too? None but mother seemed to understand her, or perhaps none but mother had taught her so. But she was older now, surely it was more okay to not want to play? "I'm not really into playing games.."
