The story starts beyond the Clans. The details are unknown, and perhaps, they will never be known - for the survivors are nothing but young, hardly two moon old kits.Serpentberry will find the twins beside their dying mother. Whether they plead for help or understand at all what is happening matters not to the molly. She sees this as a sign - a chance to expand her brood. After her elder daughter has taken space and her younger three have been given mentors, Serpentberry aches for new minds to mold.
She can save the mother. The wound can be held closed, herbs can halt the infection. The twins need not be orphaned so young. But Serpentberry does not offer this family that chance.
She guides two tottling kits away from their dying mother, and when she arrives with them in camp, she gives them new names. She claims she found them with their mother, who was already dead. She offers them a chance at Clan life, a selfless deed, however anyone who knows Serpentberry must know that there is more that boils beneath the surface.
The tragedy does not end here. In fact, this appears to be the first fallen branch off of a dying tree. Will you be there to watch it keel over?
