MAGGOTKIT
.
Maggotkit sat under a tall tree, content in its shade. To most, it would appear to just be staring at the bark, but Maggotkit knew better - in all the crevices of the great tree there resided all kinds of insects - centipedes, ants, lice and most importantly, beetles. Maggotkit had learned quickly that it could hear them, just like it was promised in its dream. Being able to hear them, however, did not mean Maggotkit always understood what they were saying. Sometimes their words were too complex or unfamiliar to the kitten to properly grasp, things like larvae and thorax and elytra. But there were some things it understood - hunger and cold.
Maggotkit hummed quietly to itself, repeating noises similiar to those of the beetles, though not quite there yet. The most curious ones had already started to understand it, letting Maggotkit pick them up or even crawling over its pelt, though it knew soon it would be too cold for most of them to be out.
Maggotkit was so focused on its beetle friends that it completely missed the sounds of someone else approaching, unaware of everything besides what was in front of it. Only when someone else's fur brushed against it, it flinched in surprise and yelped out.
"Oh..." it breathed out, in relief. Maggotkit wasn't known for talking a lot, most of what they said was the simplest of phrases, with the fewest amount of words. After stilling their heartbeat enough, they finally declared, "Just you."
