He awoke from restless dreams, that beautiful molly still fresh in his mind — the smell of Windclan littered with something else he couldn't quite place fresh in his mind. He had made a deal, a deal to be stronger. His eyes remained closed, a blackness where his dreams once were. Instead, he focused on what he heard. He heard everything, the voices of his clanmates, whispered or otherwise. So many voices swam in his head, it was almost overwhelming. He could hear the chittering of prey in the Earth, the hum of the tunnels that Weaselchirp had rattled on about.
He heard everything.
Eyes opened and he paused for a moment, the apprentice den was still utterly black. He could not see the figures of his fellow apprentices, he could not see the sunlight creeping in. In fact, he saw nothing. Nothing but a blackness he was familiar with from the tunnels below, his head spun around, panic setting in.
He lifted a paw to his face, confirming that his eyes were truly open. His breathing grew heavier, realizing what his deal had entailed. Voices still swam around him, too many, too much all at once.
He was blind, his sight had been stolen from him.
A scream echoed from the apprentice den, followed by the shaking and ragged breaths of the tom.
