TW is for kit sickness / description of respiratory infection symptoms

𓆣𓆣 The kit has never experienced the world in full, despite its age. Of course, its senses have blossomed in full by now, revealing sights and scents and sounds that draw its interest—but there always seems to be something missing. Something masked, if only slightly. Its breath has always had a soft rasp to it, chest heaving when it spends too much time wrestling alongside its siblings, but that has never concerned Goldenrodkit. What does concern it is when one of its littermates comments on the smell of something, and the tortoiseshell simply… cannot smell it. Like there is something missing, something unrevealed to Goldenrodkit, and it might just be related to its constantly-dripping nose or the way it needs to sniffle every few moments. The kit's entire life before it had begun to walk is nothing but a yawning void in its memory, but it gets the feeling that this problem has only been getting worse. Compounding, maybe, with the colder weather and heavier rain.

Still, despite the frustration that Goldenrodkit feels about its faltering sense of smell, the kit has managed to get this far through its life without truly being bothered by it. And it has certainly never been bothered like this. It wakes with a sudden sniff, finding that its nose has become stuffy and its eyes feel crusty and dry. Its flanks heave as it struggles to draw breath, one dark paw rising to rub at its eyes. When it pulls its paw away, it can only manage to open its eyes partially, and in dismay it lets out a short growl. What is happening to it? Why does its face feel so… gross? And why is everything so cold?

MAGGOTKIT

Maggotkit has never been a heavy sleeper, every sound and sensation making it wake, or at the very least squirm in its sleep. Its sibling's raspy breathing was something it had to get used to, otherwise it would not sleep at all, but tonight, it was different.

Maggotkit woke up to Goldenrodkit's frantic movements and wheezing instead of breaths. The brown kitten found the sounds uncomfortable, the movements too much and it asked the other quietly "What's wrong, Ronny?" But the kitten didn't react and so Maggotkit asked a bit louder. "Are you okay?"

No answer. At this point, Maggotkit started to get worried, and decided it couldn't deal with this by itself. The small kitten prodded its mama on the site with its paw in an attempt to wake her up. "Mama, I go fetch Magpiepaw." it declared. Maggotkit wasn't exactly sure if this was Magpiepaw's responsibility, but the young cat had already helped Oleanderkit before, so in the kitten's mind, that was who it should look for.

Standing up on wobbly legs, the kitten walked out of the nursery - no running, just rushed paws - towards the healer's den. It had already squeezed in before and now was no exception. "Um..." it stopped at the mouth of the den. "Help? Ronny sick."

Maggotkit only hoped someone would hear it - it was certainly not going to yell.

OOC: Trying to wake up mama @wisteriastrike and looking for Magpiepaw, but can find whoever is available!

Wisteriastrike, too, has grown perhaps too used to the rasp of her child's voice. It was startling at first, to be sure; no one expects their kitten's first words to be spoken through a haze of smoke, after all. But days draw on and there is always bigger prey to catch. At worst, Goldenrodkit only ever needed to rest and recover for a short while. At best, the ailment it had was near nonexistent. Not tonight, however. It wakes with a start that rattles the whole nest, and while it tries to solve the issue on its own, the child only seems to grow worse with every movement.

Maggotkit is already to their paws, prattling towards their littermate. The lilac molly finds her own voice hitching in her throat. "Your job is to keep them breathing." Yet this one - this one kit - is struggling exactly to do that. Her russet furred kit insists on fetching Maggotpaw, and after the quickened paws of the littleling, Wisteriastrike scrapes out, "Get Cicadabuzz!" Whether or not it heard her, she can't be too sure. But she focuses back on Goldenrodkit, who seems to have glued their own eye shut with mucus, and is more than frustrated with it.

Like a mother, she draws her tongue over it's eyes. "It's okay, baby. You'll be patched up in a few moments. D'you remember how to count to ten? Let's do that, and when we get to ten, someone will be here to help..." oh, she hopes they'll be that quick. "You start," she encourages.
