RUFOUSPAW
Welcome to the celebration, baby!
As Rufouspaw bit into the mouse's neck, she spotted a glint in the undergrowth from the corner of her eye. Strange. She set down her lunch for a moment (not before making sure the unfortunate critter was indeed dead) and approached it... soon seeing that the situation was a lot more puzzling than she'd bargained for. In front of her was some kind of water—more than she'd ever seen lumped together, actually—and inside of it? A cat, staring at her!
"Uh, hello?"
She meowed.
"How'd you do that?"
Was this what her clanmates meant by "swimming"? This, and countless other questions, raced across her head, but she soon realized the other wasn't answering her. She frowned, and—hey!
"Why are you looking at me like that?!"
What did she do?! The more the silent stare-down went on, the more queasy she felt... this punk needed a lesson, she thought. And so, she raised her paw (a gesture they copied, much to her chagrin) and struck. Except... instead of striking them, she struck the water. Worse, her paw went inside! Ew! Rufouspaw was quick to lift it and draw it to her chest—but the stranger did the same thing, which was weird, because their paw never breached the surface...

And their paw looked a lot like hers. So did their long-and-short fur... their scars...

Rufouspaw's eyes widened at the realization.

Rowanpaw was out on her own, having decided to take a walk to clear her head. As long as she kept deep in Thunderclan territory, she was sure she'd be fine. Although Skyclan was no longer on good terms with Thunderclan, they did at least follow their own rules. Her ears flick as she hears someone shout, and fear flares briefly in her chest– what now? She hurries towards it and finds Rufouspaw bent over a rain puddle, looking positively befuddled. One of its paws was wet, and realization strikes Rowanpaw, who can't help but let out a mreow of soft laughter. She remembers the first time she'd stumbled on a puddle, her brief confusion until Maplefrost had explained it to her.

"Shouting like that, I thought you'd gotten yourself into trouble," she meows, a bemused expression on her face as she settles on the opposite side of the puddle and bends forwards. "Water reflects what it sees when it's still. But touch it, and…" she taps the surface of the water carefully, sending ripples across it. "The illusion is gone. Oh, I hope we get a puddle in the camp this leaf bare..." she whispers, thinking of seeing all the stars in the sky reflected, for a moment earthbound.

RUFOUSPAW
Welcome to the celebration, baby!
Seeing her own face for the first time was quite a shock. So much so, she didn't truly notice Rowanpaw's presence until she spotted her reflection on the water. Rufouspaw glanced at her for a moment—eyes still round and wide—then mimicked her motion, eliciting a second rippling wave from the rain puddle. Her ginger brows furrowed in thought. The molly spoke as if it was normal... how did she get used to this, to seeing her own body in ways nature didn't intend her to? Then again, ThunderClanners were strange, strange creatures, and it wasn't like she could go without water for too long anyways. She slowly circled the pool of water and, once she completed the loop, sat down, still examining the reflection to the best of her ability.
"I... it's really weird,"
she finally declared.

————————————— Everything must come to an end ✦

Wandering in the territory of this place, all Snapdragon sought was an easy meal. She'd been getting funny looks, not hunting as much, so she very begrudingly dragged herself out to go find some squirrel to squeeze the life from for a tender meal.

Well, until she came across Rufouspaw and that pretty little medicine cat apprentice, Rowanpaw. It wasn't surprising to see Rufous was causing a rucous as always, maw parting in a smirk, seeing her look baffled at something on the floor. She padded ahead and stood to the side of them both, peering down, eyes narrowing in confusion. "Well, I thought you found something fun, not a puddle." She scoffed.

Though the tortie did take a moment to admire herself in the water, a smile crinkling her eyes as she fixed her fur in the reflection. She chuckled lightly at Rowanpaw's addition. "Ah, I'm sure there's gonna be plenty, it'd be our luck to get more rain than dry land in the camp." She muttered, curious what the molly even wanted a puddle for, but who was she to judge. As long as its nest didn't get soaked, she couldn't care less how flooded the camp gets.

Owlbark took to having an apprentice well, he thought. A small shadow learning from him and absorbing everything he had to learn on his own. He also had to admit the small bead of pride in himself at the idea of that same knowledge being passed to his own apprentice's apprentice one day. Rufouspaw was a challenge, though. Seemingly erratic and often daydreaming itself into a bad mood. He liked the challenge. The envy he felt at the ease some of his peers had was easy to push away and ignore. His pupil had enthusiasm and that made up for all other misgivings.

The deputy flicked his ear in response to his own apprentice's caterwauling. He sighed, rolled his shoulder, and padded away from the scent trail of a greenleaf fat squirrel. There would be plenty more this time of year. He walked upon Rufouspaw, Rowanpaw, and Snapdragonpaw all staring down into a puddle. They were examining something beneath the water? Or perhaps having a brief moment of respite during this territory walk. Owlbark cautiously walked over to also gaze at the watery surface. The expected sight of himself wavered on the thin surface. Broad head, scar on his nose, and green eyes. Nothing new to him.

"Anything particularly interesting keeping you from hunting?" He grunted, looking to the two warrior apprentices. Rowanpaw was able to do as she pleased. He knew Serpentberry well enough to not step into her training regimen. "Or are we just admiring ourselves?"

Speak of the devil - Serpentberry arrives, not because of the rather subdued commotion, nor really the scent of her daughter amidst it. No, she arrives for once by complete happenstance, and as much shows when her eyes widen upon seeing the small crowd. Her gaze relaxes once more, her expression shifting into it's natural unenthused boredom. The lot of them - Owlbark, Rowanpaw, and the other two - seem far too preoccupied with some puddle to be doing anything worthwhile. Owlbark speaks, and Serpentberry twitches her tail with a similar sentiment.

"I won't be one to admonish anyone from keeping themselves fit and clean..." Serpentberry murmurs, looking over the younger trio before continuing with a sharper, "But won't it be more worthwhile to continue whatever training you're supposed to be on?" Some of them scent of blood, so surely hunting, or even a spar gone wrong. It's her business in that case when they return to camp with useless bumps and scratches. "Unless... I'm missing something," which is not something the molly would usually admit. She looks to Owlbark for some sort of explanation.

The apprentice makes sure that he doesn't stray far from his mentors side as he walks through the thick oak forest and can't help but quirk an eyebrow in the direction of the other apprentices that are ahead of him and a frown pulls at his lips. Rufouspaw acts as if she's never seen her reflection before and it makes his whiskers quiver with confusion though he tries not to linger on the thought for long and he bites down on his tongue further when Rowanpaw and Snapdragonpaw approach both sharing their own words.

He remains silent even when Owlbark approaches to investigate why the apprentices had stopped to gander at a puddle and he asks what was particularly interesting or if they were admiring their own reflections. His skin only begins to crawl when the sound of Serpentberry's voice reaches his ears and it takes everything in him not to grimace, he had mixed feelings regarding the medicine cat, and he doesn't know how to feel knowing that the molly rests in the leader den alongside his mother. She's just as sharp and blunt as Owlbark, Asterpaw spares a glance in the direction of his peers, and flicks his bottlebrush tail behind him.

"speech", thoughts, attacking
a runty, longhaired chocolate tabby with clay toned eyes and low white. a sickly apprentice with small patches of fevercoat left over in his pelt, kitten fuzz, and fat that clings to him but is fading away to give way to a taller/more lanky build
sickly child of juniperstar and sablestar; littermate of dreampaw and magpiepaw; padding after lavenderpaw

asterpaw's an introverted apprentice that keeps to himself for the most part unless family's involved, he usually keeps his head low and eyes averted so he doesn't make direct eye contact. once, he actually gets to know someone is he more open towards them and can prove to be a devoted friend. once he's comfortable around other individuals, he tends to speak a lot more and sometimes over shares about himself without realizing it. he hates that he was born sickly but despite it, he tries to overcome it and pushes himself harder than any of the apprentices

Flickerpaw entirely shares Snapdragonpaw's disappointment. By the way Rufouspaw had ooh'd and aah/d, she had expected it to have made some grand discovery. When she had strolled up to the slowly-gathering crowd, she had expected to at least be a little bit surprised.

Well, she supposes that worked. She's surprised by how something as simple as mundane as a puddle can distract Rufouspaw.

Flickerpaw remains silent as Rowanpaw demonstrates how reflections work. How odd. That isn't normally something you're told, is it? Or perhaps she had forgotten her own parents' guidance from all those moons ago.

She isn't near enough for her own face to look back at them, but from this angle, she sees the tips of Owlbark's ears as he approaches. Serpentberry, too, comes to scold the 'paws for their lack of action. Flickerpaw can't help the snort that escapes her—she had tried not to show her amusement at Rufouspaw's antics, but with the more senior members of ThunderClan now becoming the audience, the hilarity of the situation really settles in.

"Of course not,"
she adds breezily.
"Come, Rufouspaw. I'm sure we can find another puddle for you to look at—after we hunted."
She can't help feeling a thrill of self-satisfaction; she gets to be the voice of reason in a very public display.
