There was no gain in competition, yet Slugpaw had challenged him, and who was he to decline? Slug really gave him... Well, no option- and he intended to hunt anyways. Once he was sure that Yewkit was safe with Meadowpaw, he'd push his nose hesitantly to Meadowpaw's shoulder, before placing a rough paw on Yewkit. "I'll be back..." He murmured. "I'll bring us back something t' eat."
Slugpaw had already been gone for a bit, and Talonpaw was fine with giving the kid an extra headstart. His steps were careful through the muddy cornfields, but his maw opened gently, blue eye glinting as he took in the scents. He'd been doing a bit better with Merrystalks help, but he still wasn't entirely confident. He wouldn't exactly admit it aloud, but it was what it was.
Talon continued past the fields, slugpaws faint scent mingled in with the other cats the apprentice was with. If Merrystalk was here, perhaps he wouldn't have left alone- but his stomach growled, and even if the others wouldn't admit it, if he was hungry it only meant they were hungry. Talon just had to persist and bring back enough for the four of them. If not, well, he'd make sure they at least ate.
His steps trailed along in the outskirts of land he did not recognize, before he found something he did recognize. His form moved low, his head turning slightly to focus on the form of the bunny. A beat, and suddenly the boy leaped. Claws tore into hide, teeth embedding into the side of its throat and back legs kicking into the creature to assist in pinning and ending it's life. They always fought back, he had realized. Unlike the other prey they feasted on, rabbits were the most difficult. But, they were enough for two in his opinion.
