AND I AM SORRY MY CONSCIENCE CALLED IN SICK AGAIN
______________________________________________________________________
Morning had barely settled over the pocosin when Wolfpack decided that he'd had enough. Not of the constant dampness, the bite of insects, or the lack of prey– but with Flamerunner.
He'd watched the flame-point tom long enough to know he wasn't useless– far from it in fact. Quick on his feet, agile, and with enough natural skill to rival any of Shadowclans better hunters, it made it an even worse offence that they chose to do as little as possible. The younger tom only seemed interested in trying to catch the eyes of his fellow clanmates, and unfortunately for him, he'd succeeded in catching those of the deputy.
It was funny. Had the pair of them been loners, Wolf wouldn't have given to flicks of his tail what the other did with their day. Might even allow himself time to indulge in their shameless flirtation. But this was Shadowclan, and Wolfpack wasn't about to let a cat that talented waste their time loading around camp winking as passing cats when there were borders to mark and prey to chase.
So, here they were.
Wolfpack stood before the ginger cat with a look that was almost asking to be tested, to give him a reason. While he'd been doing his best to reign in his more savage tactics, he wasn't above reminding a cat that there was no room for leeches and freeloaders here. Any cat that wished to call themselves Shadowclan had to pull their weight in some capacity– that, or they had to have the protection of someone who would do it for them.
And the last time he'd checked, nobody was out there picking up Flamerunners share of the work for him.
"Why are you back before the rest of your patrol? I sent you to hunt in Zone 3, you shouldn't be back for another hour at least." the mottled cat demanded, not looking impressed. With the way food was running they needed as many paws working together as they could get. If Flamerunner thought he was going to share in the meal brought back, he was sorely mistaken. "In fact, I can't remember the last time you've put in a proper days work. I think it's time to change that."
And if the warrior didn't like it, he was happy to remind them where the border was.
"Starting today, you'll be shadowing me full-time. Deputies orders."
