The meeting ends, and Warpath is left with a brand-new apprentice and a solid idea on how to effectively train a younger cat for the tasks required of a warrior. It shouldn't be too difficult, as there isn't much of a difference between teaching skills to another adult and training a youngster to step into the role of a warrior; still, there's a slightly nervous prickle down his spine that says just how much is on the line. He's not just a mentor now, but a protector. No harm can come to Frecklepaw in his care, and he'll be sure of it—he hopes. "Alright, kid, let's go start your training," he huffs as he turns to lead his new apprentice outside of camp. Shoulders roll beneath cinnamon fur as the tom pads through the camp's entrance, glancing back to ensure that Frecklepaw is following.

Once they've made it a good distance from camp, the ranger speaks up again to give Frecklepaw an outline for their trek into the territory. "We're visiting the Owl Tree first, then continue past it to the ShadowClan border. After that, if you're up to it, we'll circle back to the RiverClan border and Sunningrocks. Owl Tree isn't far, so we're about there already. Some say it's got an entire family of perks living up in its branches—think it's worth testing?" Good-naturedly, he grins at the younger ThunderClanner. It's in jest, of course; he wouldn't risk taking Frecklepaw too close if he believed the supposed owls dwelling there were dangerous. The tree comes into view, towering high above, its top nigh unreachable by even the most competent of climbers, and much less by Warpath. He may be willing to take risks, but he's much more comfortable with all four paws on the ground. So instead of doing something reckless like challenging the apprentice to a lighthearted race to a branch, he jerks his chin to the tree's boughs and asks, "See anything?"

Leave what's heavy, what's heavy behind.
If your heart won't move, find a reason why.

It was new, and it was frightening, and he couldn't deny the prickle of nausea curling in his stomach as he followed after Warpath, eyes wide. He had never truly been anywhere except the nursery and camp. Everything beyond the thorn barrier had been a story, a whisper, a place meant for someday... Not today. Not until he had been called forward, named apprentice, and handed to Warpath like a promise he wasn't sure he could keep. Could he ever live up to ThunderClan's expectations? To the expectations his parents had left upon their broken family like a twisted legacy?

The thought gnawed at him, and he found his gaze drifting to his mentor, swallowing against the lump in his throat. Something fluttery and tight buzzed beneath his ribs. It felt like fear, but it wasn't just his. A tremor that wasn't entirely his own... A breath he hadn't realized he was holding slipped free. " Owl Tree... " he echoed softly, padding after Warpath. He had heard stories about it. About Sunningrocks. Borders. Places with names that sounded larger than he felt. But then came the word testing, and his steps faltered. Birds? Hunting? His ears burned. " I... I don't know how to hunt... " he blurted, trying to keep pace with the warrior's longer strides.

When they finally arrived, he puffed out a shaky breath and tipped his head back, squinting up at the towering tree. Bark like claws. Branches like reaching shadows. Starling-dark hollows. He searched, heart thumping. " I... Mmm... No. I don't see anything. " His whiskers twitched. " Are there usually things here? "

DAISYNOSE
——————————

Daisynose's pelt prickled anxiously. She still couldn't believe Loonstar had given her an apprentice - but if she was going to be a mentor, she was going to do her best to ensure the newly-named Hollypaw was ready to be a warrior. Problem was... she didn't know where to start. She was reeling. She could feel the expectation upon her, from Hollypaw and from the clan. What had she done on her first days as an apprentice? She looked up and saw Warpath leading his new apprentice out of camp. He probably knew what he was doing, right? He was a more senior warrior. At least he could give her an idea of how to begin.

"Come on, Hollypaw," she mewed, offering her apprentice an encouraging smile before turning to bound after Warpath and Frecklepaw.

The pair followed closely, Daisynose taking note of how Warpath explained things. He seemed at ease despite the quiet, wide-eyed way Frecklepaw looked around. She turned to Hollypaw and gestured with her tail. "As we approach the Owl Tree, try scenting the air. Part your jaws to help draw in scents, and see if you can name anything. Then, see if you can spot what you smell." Though her ears burned in embarrassment, she hoped she sounded confident in her instruction.
