Prompt 92: attempt to befriend a WindClan cat

BRINDLEFEATHER
may your love never end...
It begins as another one of his late afternoon strolls, searching ThunderClan's territory for trinkets and shiny things. Birds sing overhead and a slight breeze picks up through the forest, rustling the leaves and branches of the trees.
Today leads him away from the heart of the territory, however - it's not until the trees begin to thin out that he notices he's nearing the Fourtrees border. Ah, well - he's come this far, might as well walk all the way over and see what he can find…
Humming to himself, he paces ever closer to the giant clearing where the Gatherings take place. It looks eerily empty without any cats in it… poking around a bit, Brindlefeather gasps excitedly when he finds a pretty rock, scooping it up in his jaws to take it with him. But before he can take another step, his ears swivel at the sudden sound of movement.
Looking in the direction of the WindClan border, Brindlefeather makes out what must be another cat. Curious, he steps closer, taking care to stay on his side of the border as he calls out:
"Hello there! Is that a WindClanner I see?" He smiles warmly, sitting down with his tail curling softly over his paws. "What a pleasant surprise - I didn't expect to see anycat else this close to Fourtrees!"

  • BRINDLEFEATHER is an orange-and-white tom mottled with brown stripes. His fur is medium-length and his eyes are dark brown.

Brindlefeather is known mostly for his outgoing and compassionate personality. He tries to see the good in everything and everyone, and he does his best to be on good terms with every cat he speaks to.

Although he's a forager, Brindlefeather will sometimes try to catch some fresh-kill for the Clan if he sees it's running low - even though he's not super great at it. He will also often offer to share his fresh-kill with anycat who looks like they want or need it.

Believing that violence is never the answer, he has sworn off of any kind of fighting unless absolutely necessary - and even then, he'll do what he can to de-escalate the situation. He hates seeing anyone get hurt, especially when it could have been prevented by talking things out.

MEADOWPAW
x

Meadowpaw knew she wasn't supposed to go anywhere without a warrior. Full-grown or not, she was still an apprentice, and many were content to treat her like one too. However, with so many cats coming in injured, they were out or running low on a lot of things. Meadowpaw didn't want to drag another warrior from their duties just to do her own. That in mind... she wandered farther than she meant to. What started as a small walk from camp had taken her as far as the border.

She jolts at the sound of a voice, her ears swiveling sharply. Green eyes widened as she spotted a tomcat across the border. Fourtrees lay still between them, the great clearing lacking without the chatter or chaos from the previous gathering. After the last one, she couldn't help but be wary. ThunderClan had been serious enough about their borders to kill over them.

By habit, she sweeps her tail to hide her missing leg. "Yes…" A hesitant smile tugged at her muzzle. "I'm Meadowpaw—WindClan's medicine-cat apprentice." She gauges her distance from the border and takes a step back just to be sure.

Being so close to the border, she felt a sudden need to explain herself. "I was just trying to find herbs to replenish our stores." Meadowpaw's gaze flicks to the stone he has before darting back to his eyes. "Are you… on patrol?" Alone?

WINDCLAN MEDICINE CAT APPRENTICE 12 MOONS SHE/HER
Meadowpaw values kindness and remembrance. As a kit, she internalized her mother's lessons, but questioned whether her way is the only way. She has broken free from the heavy burden of her mother's expectations due to their estrangement after the fire. She remains kind and soft-spoken through all she's endured, but is not afraid to speak out for what she believes is right.

Meadow works tirelessly at any task she undertakes, desperate to prove herself capable and worthy despite her disability. Without her mother's guidance, she finds new ways to express herself.

In conversations, she is gentle, thoughtful, and withdrawn, often hiding her struggles, fearing others seeing her as incapable. She continues to have a strong bond not only with her sister, but with her adopted family as well. Meadow uses her new freedom to support and deepen the bonds with her clanmates. Additionally, she has started to explore the more spiritual side of herself…

Her worldview is a complicated mix of hope and frustration. She wants to believe that there's hope at the end of all the suffering, but feels trapped by her limitations. With enough time and support, she may find a way to overcome her limitations and accept herself.

The medicine cat apprentice? Brindlefeather briefly scans the area, but there doesn't seem to be any other cats with her... was it okay for her to be out by herself? He decides not to question it - for all he knew, her mentor had sent her out on a solo assignment.
"I see. I'm Brindlefeather," he introduces himself, his smile refusing to falter for even a moment. Are you on patrol? asks the younger cat; he shakes his head, a small chuckle escaping him.
"Oh, no, not today. Just out on a walk." He looks up to the sky, taking a deep breath inward. "It's a beautiful day for one, wouldn't you agree? Plus, I found this cool rock." He admires it some more as he turns it around in his paws, watching the way it sparkles in the sunlight. "Not sure what I'll do with it yet, but at the very least it'd be a pretty addition to my collection." He looks back to Meadowpaw. "You said you're hunting for herbs, yes? Going well, I hope? I wouldn't want ThunderClan's potential allies to suffer a medicine shortage..." Perhaps another cat saying such a thing would imply some kind of threat, but the only emotion behind Brindlefeather's eyes is genuine concern. There's been enough tragedy going around lately; he just wants everycat to get along, even if it seems unrealistic right now.
maybe we'll turn it all around 'cuz it's not too late

"Oh, that would be too bad, wouldn't it?" Serpentberry chirps as she finds the duo, paws delicately picking her way ever closer to the two. WindClan has never been a blip on her radar - perhaps slightly, if she affords either of their medicine cats a modicum of attention - but their indifference to ThunderClan seems to serve them well in the grand scheme of things. This is all to say that the Clan itself has not earned her ire by means of any one cat or action. Meadowpaw however... oh, that girl can't be trouble if she tried. Far too skittish to even chase a mouse with the same lost leg.

"RiverClan suffered too much when their herbs were raided. I can't imagine how much harder it'll be once the streams freeze, and some of their herbs with them..." oh, she's ruining the nice, friendly moment. Serpentberry tuts to herself, sitting down and coiling her tail around her haunches. "No matter. I'm sure they'll be fine. We will all be fine," she doesn't say as much with any courage or certainty, as if she's simply speaking to have proof that she's done it at all. Turning her gaze to her Clanmate, she nudges the tom gently, "That is a pretty stone, but surely your paws are more worthwhile carrying something else." An uncanny gesture by the medicine cat, suggesting that he may help someone else entirely. She'll cash in on this another day, she thinks.
