{$title} Riverclan pays a surprise visit to Windclan's borders. It seems like Riverclan wants to discuss something?
He hated this.

The journey to Windclan was arduous and it wasn't just because of how far the other clan was from their home, but it was due to how suffocating the patrol was. Pigeonpearl was a part of his council and while he was more than aware of their strained (putting it extremely lightly, huh) relationship due to the more than amazing council meeting... He was not fully prepared by how much she made it known with cold silence and eyes that judged his every step. As for Stormswirl? It felt as if the warrior wanted to combust Pikestar through glares alone. Downyfeather was the only one who was somewhat okay... In short, he just wanted to be in his nest already. Sleeping to forget this most atrocious patrol.

It is only when a familiar scent reaches his nose that he stops. Definitely no mouse or dog. He had only vaguely gotten a hint of Windclan's scent from Maremane. It wasn't foul smelling or anything like that, but he couldn't pin point what exactly it was. They had smelled like smoky woods, yet there was a hint of something earthy? It was hard to explain.
"I'm picking up their scent. We'll move carefully from here on out. The last thing we want is to accidentally wander into their lands."
While he's uncertain about Windclan actually chasing them off or resorting to violence first, he is certain of this: Riverclan can't afford any more mistakes.

Pikestar would carefully proceed, stopping every once and awhile to take in the scents. He was looking for a border marker. Given the very fact that the other clans had borders of their own, then Windclan must have borders of their own. A few sunrises have passed since Maremane wandered into their land, but that doesn't mean Windclan hasn't been marking their own borders. They must have been marking them. How often? He had no clue, but there had to be some place where the scent was the strongest. A clear sign that they've staked their claim on their land. If not... Then this would be challenging. He's almost given up hope, until he catches whiff of a powerful scent. Here it has to be here.

The silver tom looks back at his patrol and nods.
"This is as close as we can get. Now all we have to do is wait."
Oh, how he loathed waiting for far too long. However, this too was a test. Windclan did not owe them their time. Its not like they knew Riverclan would be arriving today. They were simply going about their own lives. Surviving. Just like the rest of them. If anything they could use this time to decide what they would say or how they should act.

"While we wait, I guess I should just go over what my plans are."
Couldn't hurt to take a seat either. We've been walking since sunrise and by the time we get home the moon will be shining. With a sigh, the leader takes a seat.
"I want to speak with their leader and make it clear that our borders are to be respected. Then, I'll inform to be wary of Shadowclan. Is that fine with everyone?"
While he doesn't look at Pigeonpearl, he hopes she doesn't use this to her advantage and start airing out their business. It was obvious enough that something happened between the pair. All he was asking was whether or not they thought he should add more to the agenda. He wouldn't mind, but there was a reason why it was so short. This was their first official meeting with the clan after all. They shouldn't start demanding things from them.

Whether or not they have more to add is cut short when a patrol comes into view. Windclan's patrol wouldn't have been able to hear him, but they could smell them for sure. Green eyes watched as the patrol started padding in their direction. He tries to suppress his laughter when he sees one Windclanner thoroughly confused and shocked that Riverclan would be here. Its a fair reaction, one he's certain he'll have himself if he were in the warriors paws.

The windclanners come to a stop at the edges of their border, watching them. I guess that's my cue to speak. And so, with a nod, he begins,
"Hello Windclan. My name is Pikestar. Leader of Riverclan."
He can't afford to think of their reaction to such news. No, that would make him lose sight of his goal. The purpose of being here. He simply smiles,
"I am happy to finally meet you. Apologies for how long overdue this meeting is. I would like to ask if I may speak to your leader?"
Hopefully that was good enough. I didn't come across as mean, right? I didn't want to waste their time, so I kept it short and simple.

As he often does, Harefoot hears the other cats before he sees them. The wind carries voices to him, unfamiliar voices. The one who speaks has an uncertain shake in his voice, but he seems to be commanding the group. Harefoot veers off his path towards the voices. I'm picking up their scent… now all we have to do is wait… I want to speak to their leader… borders… be wary of Shadowclan. Certainly interesting. Five cats stand in front of him. His expression is neutral, with maybe a hint of vague curiosity, as he surveys them steadily. One speaks up, with the same voice that Harefoot had heard before, and announces himself as Pikestar. He wants to speak to Dustystar… well… he certainly could. Though Dustystar probably wouldn't take well to criticism of her family, of who she called Windclan's allies.

"Cats of the river," Harefoot begins, "my name is Harefoot. It is good to meet you, though it seemeth you bring us ill tidings."

His eyes rest on Pikestar, heavy, as if weighing the cat in his head. Not necessarily judging, but simply trying to get the measure of him. "You carry a great burden, Pikestar, leader of Riverclan. Your voice shows it. But meetings are never overdue, nor do they tend to happen beforehand. The west wind has blown you to our borders, and the wind is never late."

He sits back on his haunches, assured by the Windclan patrol that has joined him. "You wish to speak to our leader– someone will fetch her," he looks over his shoulder at Scorchpaw, nodding his head in the general direction of their camp.

Then he turns back to Pikestar, once more pinning him down with his steady eyes. "The wind carries more than just your patrol. You spoke of Shadowclan, and of a need to be wary– ill tidings," he repeats, head tilting curiously. "What hath Shadowclan done to thy clan, Pikestar?"

—————————————— Dreaming along in a pace you'll understand. ✦

As he often did, Merrystalk was enjoying a quiet afternoon with Harefoot. Peaceful and ordinary. That was until a peculiar look crossed the other's face, the wind bristled both of their furs, and the tortie shot his other half a curious look. Scorchpaw was off nearby, up to her own thing in the vicinity of both of them. But even so, Merry's curiosity was more than piqued.

"Somethin' caught yer attention?" He purred warmly, watching the other tom walk off from where they were all heading. With a casual flick of the tail, he motioned the other cats nearby to follow. If Harefoot had heard something on the wind that even he had to investigate, then surely it'd be important to tail along.

And lo and behold, his assumption was correct, a small patrol of strange cats emerging at their border. Not scented like Skyclan to their right nor Shadowclan to their left, his ear flicked with narrowing eyes. Before being taken aback by a tom speaking up, one younger than his own brother with the title of Pikestar. Merry couldn't help but look to Harefoot, stunned. The cat was only a few moons older than they were, and he was the leader of Riverclan. Maremane had mentioned them being... On edge, so he was frankly a little put off at them being on their borders.

But before Merrystalk could speak, he was surprised to hear Harefoot speak up, greeting Riverclan in his usual manner, though he blinked, puzzled. "What're ya' sayin', they just got here how'd ya-" He began, more of a mutter than anything. But his voice fell silent as the other continued, a warm smile parted his maw as he chuckled lightly. "Harefoot they ain't gonna have no clue what yer meanin' hearin' news on the wind."

His tail brushed against the side of the other as he walked over, though it was obvious there was some unease in his eyes. "Though I ain't 'bout to dismiss what yer sayin'. Why would we have to be wary 've Shadowclan, they've been kind to us 'nd us to them in kind." Confusion knit across his brow, scanning the leader's expression.

Surely there would be little reason for the leader of a clan on the other side of Fourtrees to try and stir up issues between allies when it seems Riverclan have been on the defensive against anyone who even looks at their territory.

Merry wasn't so sure how seriously he could take the worries of a clan and leader who seemed on edge about every little thing, especially when Dustystar and Sablestar were kin, he was far more inclined to trust their own allies But then again, there was good reason why Scorchpaw ran to get Dustystar herself, it was none of Merry's business making desicsions, so he would treat Pikestar and his patrol just as kindly as he would anyone else.

He would be willing to give them the benefit of the doubt if need be, but learning their intentions to be here in the meantime seemed a wise idea. "Aye, though, do tell, has somethin' happened we ain't caught wind 'f we should know?" His tail flickered, glancing back at Harefoot again, an uneasy feeling settling in his stomach. "'m on Dustystar's council as one 've her gale guards, Merrystalk, I can try 'nd help ya'." He was quick to add in, he wouldn't blame Pikestar for not telling any random warrior the ongoing - supposed - tensions between Riverclan and Shadowclan, so hopefully it would give him peace of mind to discuss some matters in the meanwhile of Dustystar being fetched.
