PEBBLEDREAM ──
riverclan | warrior
Pebbledream's pawsteps upon the cold, hardened ground of the marshes are calm and calculated. Their head is held high as they lead the rest of the patrol to the riverside, occasionally checking over their shoulder to ensure that no cat is left behind. They were entrusted to ensure today's hunting goes smoothly; they wouldn't want any issues before they even arrive at the river. Stopping at the bank, they beckon the patrol forward with a flick of their tail.

"The river runs a bit shallow here - it should be a prime spot for fish seeking to warm themselves in the sun as it gets colder," they explain. "It's imperative that we add to the fresh-kill pile as much as possible today, in preparation for the moons to come." That goes without saying, Pebbledream is sure, but at least the reminder may serve as a motivator for their Clanmates. Lowering themself to the ground in a hunting crouch, they peer into the water; unfortunately, there are several leaves that have fallen upon the water's surface, drifting along in the currents. Their ear flicks with irritation, but they remain vigilant nonetheless, hoping to serve as a positive example for not only their fellow warriors but the apprentices among them as well.

Thier body is still, their muscles taut in concentration as they stare the water down with an intense, icy gaze that's nearly as cold as the water itself. The moment they see a ripple of movement, a dancing shadow that's unmistakable to them, their forelegs shoot outward with claws unsheathed. Grappling their prey, Pebbledream swifly bites into its scaly skin, rising with a bluegill to show for their efforts. Yes, this will certainly do, they think to themself - provided that the patrol can maintain their focus away from the colorful leaves, this patrol has potential to be very successful.
a steadfast spirit, never to stall

    - The cooler temperatures have been bringing more fish to the surface to seek warmth and food. However, it seems that the falling leaves on the river have added a new obstacle to hunting. Is your character successful at catching some of the more surface-drawn fish, or do they find themselves frustrated by the reflected colors and leaf litter on the surface?

I will be rolling dice for pebble's hunting attempts, and i encourage you to as well (although it's not required by any means)!! i am using a -1 modifier because of the leaf litter to make it interesting!

Juncopaw might as well be flying high above the clouds, with the way she all but skips over the ground underneath her. There isn't any particular reason for her joviality; she is always like this, except for the rare drops in mood once a moon or so. Usually because of other cats, of course... like a mean patrol from a rival Clan, or a particularly disappointing task assigned to her. At least the latter doesn't apply to her now; she gets to go out and hunt! It's nowhere near her favorite activityβ€”ensuring the borders remain safely guarded is much coolerβ€”but it beats having to clean out old bedding and the like. Shame that none of her siblings or parents got to join.

Following Pebbledream's lead, Juncopaw takes a spot near the edge of the river, allowing the water to reach her paws. She will have to train that out of herself soon enough; once the weather gets frigid, she would only continuously give her a cold with this move.

Soon enough, the surface gets dotted with silhouettes of fish, just as the warrior had predicted. Juncopaw didn't even have to wait too longβ€”perfect! Patience is not her forte. Raising a paw, and leaning even closer while using the opposing direction of the sun to hide her own shadow, she gets ready to strike...

And that's precisely when a large leaf floats onto the water.

"No!"
Juncopaw yowls in frustration, uncaring that her outburst could just as easily disturb the others' hunt.
"I almost had it!"
What an excellent catch it would have been... the shadow had been big and plump, promising enough to munch on. It's nowhere to be seen when Juncopaw shoves the traitor leaf out of the way.

Letting annoyance get the best of her, Juncopaw desperately turns to Stormswirl.
"Can't we hunt something else? The river will be frozen soon... right? We won't be able to fish then anyway."
It's just an excuse, of course. Land prey provide just as much difficulty, if not more. Stillβ€”when she imagines ice covering RiverClan's precious streams and brooks, she can barely believe that they will be able to make it through the harsh season. It will be her first leaf-bare, and she doesn't know what to expect.

Rolled 8. I wanted her to fail this one specifically.
