this takes place before the gathering!
Every morning was colder now as greenleaf left like a tide retreating from the shore. As Owlbark exited his den, he breathed in the scents of dawn and breathed out waiting to see a puff of air leave him. He felt relief at the absence of it. When he could see his breath catch in the frosty morning air, he would have to make sure his warriors knew that preparations were needed. They had new mouths to feed. Leafbare was harsh. He would have to drive that into his younger crew. They had never experienced leafbare without the clan.
He eyed the early-risers of ThunderClan milling about, giving a polite nod to each before clearing his throat near the clan entrance. "Please gather for patrols." He sat quietly as his clanmates began to make their way in front of him. They were all meshing so well. He felt out of place most times, but being the fuel the drove the engine was a correct placement for him. He didn't have to play nice or mix-in with them. He could give orders and be appreciated for it.
"Hazelheart, please take Midnightfrost and Brindlefeather to Riverclan's border. They seem to be eager to cross over to sunningrocks lately. Please make it known that they reside on our side of the territory." In any way you had to, was the unspoken order to his Storm Guard. He would not punish them for violence, but hopefully it could be avoided by effective posturing. RiverClan seemed to be the most easily swayed clan of the five. Their leader reminded him of Brightpetal. Cheery and loving and easily stepped on. Perhaps staking their claim of territory would prevent further pushback.
"I'm ever cautious of ShadowClan. They are not our biggest worry, but I still urge you all to stay cautious and avoid any ShadowClanners as you make our mark. I will not have another clan angry at us for protecting what's ours," he huffed. The slimy presence of Sablestar continued to creep into camp as his children lived a half life between him and their mother. He would have to mention to Juniperstar-
Not his business in the slightest.
"Houndhowl. Keep your eyes out as you walk the border. Take Monstergrowl and Graybird." He flicked his head to signal them to get a move on. The faster they had marked that border the better.
"Magnoliapeak, Thunderflash, and Gentleflame. Take your apprentices near Windclan's border for hunting practice. I'll be making note of what they catch upon their return," he meowed, looking to the youngsters huddled near their chaperones. They would need as many sets of capable claws they could get before leafbare. The earlier these cats could bring in sufficient prey the better.
His green eyes traced over the crowd for their medicine cat. Upon seeing her conniving stare he nodded his head to her. "Copperstorm and Morningdew are yours for the afternoon, Serpentberry. Use their paws to your advantage." Herbs were not his business, so he would tell his medicine cat how to proceed with the cats given to her. Hopefully she felt the need to prepare as much as he did. He dreaded the possibility of the herb storage running out mid-leafbare.
"I'll be leading a patrol later this evening to SkyClan's border. I don't trust Hawkstar to not try something on our patrols before the gathering, so I'd like to be there. We'll patrol quickly and efficiently. I don't care to be there longer than I have to," he growled. Owlbark rose to his feet and swished his tail to the side. "That is all."
