Branchkit couldn't sleep. The cooler weather made it harder to get comfortable in the nest, and the looming knowledge of Lotuskit and the others soon leaving him to be... well not alone, but without them to sleep beside, was keeping him up too.
How would he fill his days without his sister to play with and have adventures with? Lotuskit would no doubt be a really good apprentice, so she'd always be with her mentor... would Momma end up returning to her warrior duties too? He hadn't needed milk in a long time, and he knew she was really important to Ma - one of the Gale Guards! Ivorystorm's kits were okay, but Yewkit was still in trouble or whatever and probably wouldn't sneak out with him.
He looked over at his sleeping sister and prodded her gently.
"Psst. Lotuskit. Wake up," he whispered.
